Let's first bring in our guy, Joe De Leon here. Weekly guest spot for Joe. He covers college football on the NFL Trap for 8-Z Sports. He also is the host of the Raffino and Joe Show and the Hacks City Pod. And, of course, Joe Show and the Hacks City Pod. And, of course, former Rhode Island football-long snapper. Joe, great to be with you once again, brother. How you doing? Good. Minus my mid-major bets that I placed today. None of them hitting. We were just talking about that in the break. Stephen F. Austin, you did me so well this whole year. And you cost me today getting embarrassed. But other than that, I'm doing pretty good. Well, hey, look. Good news is it's only Wednesday. And so you got some more mid-major action Thursday and Friday. And, you know, you could always take a swing at the beginning. Friday. And, you know, you could always take a swing at the big boys. And the big tournaments. But Joe, let's start with last night's fiasco on Baltimore. The Ravens pull out of the Max Crosby trade after he reportedly failed his physical. Crosby was shut down in final two games of the season this past year. Reportedly left the building and frustration.
But then ended up having surgery in January to clean up the meniscus in his left knee. And the assumption is, he was always going to be ready for the start of next season, whether that was with the Raiders or another team. The Ravens had to have known that before they made the trade. And then this morning they signed Trey Hendricks into a four-year deal for 112 million bucks. Did Baltimore get cold feet in your opinion? Or do you think there was legitimate concerns with Crosby's medicals? And was it BS for the Ravens to pull out of this trade? Well, it definitely was BS to do this retroactively after you agreed to the deal. You knew the guy was hurt, you knew the guy ended the season, not with great health. You have to understand the implications of what you're jumping into. Not to mention the fact that you just signed a past rusher who's also coming off of his own injury and was really not available for a good portion of last year. Clearly there was no problem with taking that risk on with Trey Hendrickson. I'm being very conspiratorial here. But based on the fact also to cost to pointing out that he wanted to pair Crosby and Hendrickson,
I really, really do feel like that they realized how much better it would be just to go with Hendrickson to not have to pay the draft capital to pay as much money for Crosby's contract. And they found an easy out. I think the cold feet angle is definitely the right approach. They knew damn well that they were doing. And I think it's so ridiculous and stupid that everyone who's defended them, which is not very many, and the cost to trying to defend himself, trying to act like it was some sort of sudden discovery that popped up at the very last second. Joe, let's take with the Baltimore Ravens conversation, which Ray Hendrickson now in Baltimore. One defensive deed is satisfied. But with the Ravens picking in number 14 overall and round one of the NFL draft, what direction do you see this franchise going? Who in your estimation is really an ideal fit? Well, I really think that they still should look to add another pass rusher.
I think that Hendrickson obviously boosts your pass rush. And it kind of gets back to an old school style that you had when you were most successful defensively. But I think that this now allows for them, and you've got Hendrickson in the mix, with that pick to draft one of these premier designated pass rusher that has been projected to go somewhere in the middle of the first round. So I'm looking at Cassius Howell from Texas A&M, looking at Armais and Thomas from Oklahoma. Maybe you consider going with a TJ Parker from Clemson, who's been a bit of a riser throughout this process. The fact that they have this pick and they also have Hendrickson allows for them to take maybe a swing on a player who is just going to be a third down pass rusher. Or a guy who needs a little bit more progression and development like a TJ Parker, as much as we can really criticize them for their handling of this situation,
they are in a really advantageous spot. I think having that 14th overall pick at the end of the day enables them to do that. And defensively is where they need to improve the most because it became so clear that not only do they not have the right pieces, but they also lack the depth. So for me, I still point to pass rusher being that primary need and what they need to be aggressive at targeting. We'll be interesting to see what they do. Joel Pat and I describe Romeo Dobbs as signing in New England as a slight upgrade over the departed Stefan Diggs. How do you assess the former Packer and now New England Patriot? Can he or will he be the WR1 for Drake May this upcoming season? And what is your call here? Do you believe the Pats aren't done addressing the wide receiver position? Well, it definitely can't be done and it's I know the rumor is that they're still trying to be in the mix for AJ Brown. They have to use that first round pick that they have for another wide receiver, whether that is going to trade for AJ Brown
or taking maybe a Denzel Boston out of Washington. I keep pushing this. I would love to see Boston on the back of a New England jersey. I will continuously say that when I'm asking the Patriots. I mean, the amount of jerseys that they would sell if even if he had zero receptions in his career would be unbelievable. But to the point of getting a big body threat like that who isn't AJ Brown, but similar style of being a high impact contested catch guy. I think it's something that they need. The thing with Dobbs is that I just I feel like he's a really good wide receiver too. He's just a really, really good solid wide receiver too. And you kind of already have that you've already got not solid secondary targets, but Keisha and Boute and Kyle Williams are really good in their roles of being the third and fourth wide receivers in your offense. You need an alpha, you know, you need a young big dog primary target and they got to find a way to get that this off season. This at least takes you a step closer.
I also really like the fact that they went and got a lives of air Tucker because that is an underrated move to get you a step closer to fixing the problems that killed you in the Super Bowl. Yeah, talking to our guy Joe daily own here on badmgm tonight. Westwood one sports. He's Brad Evans on pap oil Joe's the host of the refino and Joe show and the hack city potty covers college football on the NFL draft for eight is the sports. You can follow him on Twitter at Joe daily own Joe. I love a Carolina has done thus far and free agency notably signing edge rush or Jalen Phillips on the Eagles and then getting linebacker Devon Lloyd for what I thought was a steal at 15 million per year. Are you impressed with GM Dan Morgan's moves and do you think we go in the next season viewing the Panthers as favorites to repeat as NFC South champs. I said this on on one of my shows yesterday. I think that the Panthers come out of free agency quietly being one of the biggest winners. So the fact that you had a solid unit of young past rushers, but you didn't have a big dog.
Jalen Phillips is not a super productive sack producer, but is one of the best guys at generating pressures. That's how you get Nick Scowerton and Prince Lyomani Ellen to step up their production in year two. I think that Phillips. If he's healthy can become a top 10 past pressure in the league and be super super impactful. That need is fixed. It's it's figured out you don't need to take a swing in the middle of the first round on trying to grab a guy that would have just gone into the mix of all the other past rushes that you have there aren't premier players. Devon Lloyd to me though is the signing at the price that you mentioned. It's not super expensive. It establishes a much higher floor on their defense linebacker was clearly their biggest hole and it was the one position that I kept bringing up as one that maybe that they could address in the upcoming draft in early. I still think and this is what gets me intrigued if CJ Allen is on the board. I'm still taking CJ Allen. I think that Devon Lloyd CJ Allen next to one another.
You would have such a dynamite linebacker duo and you would have this completely revamped defense that was already showing some signs of positivity. This has been a slam dunk off season and now the pressure. This is the negative side of things. The pressure is on Bryce young. He has to take advantage of this team that he's got around him because this roster quietly. I should not quite I don't believe it's the best right now in the NFC South. Interesting. Joe among the vast array of NFL moves that have been made so far this week. Give us one or two that really grabbed your attention. Whether ones that prompted a second guess or ones you considered major win. So again, we're really caught your eye. Yeah, outside of the Devon Lloyd signing and the Elijah very Tucker one was the other one that like I was really blown away by I think that the I know that this is technically last week, but the decision to go and get Trent McDuffie as well as bringing
in Watson for the Los Angeles Rams that that is everything that the Rams needed to do. It would have been risky to a degree where they were sitting. I know that they've got the early first round pick, which they still hold by the way, which makes this off season even more impactful for the Rams. I really think that they needed to be aggressive to boost their secondary to set them up to be as impactful as they could to go on a championship run. They need to go all in. They need to push all their chips in the table. You do not know what the future will hold at the quarterback position. If Stafford theoretically retires at the end of this year, you also don't know if maybe he wanted to keep running it back. If he fell off of a cliff, like Aaron Rogers has done at the very end of his career. Go all in and do that by boosting your secondary with two impactful starters that played together. I think now with that 13th overall pick, the board is theirs. They can do whatever they want. They can go best player available. It doesn't even need to be a player who's going to play right away. Maybe that is the tie Simpson selection and he ends up being the future chip, which that makes them even more successful for the long term future.
But they have the opportunity to look and go, you know, we'll take a guy. It'll just be a rotational player. Somebody that we can build up and develop. I almost can't even really tell you which player they'll go with because I feel like they've done such a great job of addressing their needs in free agency and their trades that they're really, really primed for this run. Maybe it's a receiver. Maybe it's my kind of lemon, but they feel like the best position team right now after free agency. I'm going to Joe Dalyone here for another two minutes or so on bed MGM tonight. Westwood one sports Joe finally. How do you grade the offseason so far for the New York football giants? The most notable departure is receiver one Dale Robinson who links up a Brian Dable in Tennessee, but the Giants had tied in Isaiah likely from Baltimore along with full back Patrick record. I love that signing a landline backer. Tremade Edmonds in Chicago. Resign some of their own. Don't remind me about Evan Neil. And then they give big money to a punter Jordan Stout and finally, finally by the grace of God, they upgrade a kicking position with Jason Sanders, although knowing the Giants, but he'll probably pull his hamstring and week one. Overall, what grade do you give Joe Shane or what grade do you give John Harbaugh was really running the show for this offseason so far for big blue?
Yeah, I would give him a B plus because I think that this is out of the right moves to add finishing touches to the roster. I think that there's clearly an identity shift. A attention to be firing record and likely likely is obviously. Seving what tight end and tight end room to be impactful and plot for you, but where I'm a little disappointed admitted. You didn't make the moves to improve the interior of off your offensive line. I really was hoping that they would get bear Tucker bringing back aluminum or is the right thing because the draft having to concoct some sort of group of rookies to make your offensive line. Play a little bit better this upcoming year. He did well enough. He's at the end of his career. It wasn't for a ridiculous price, but I really wanted them to see them grab your book or someone to make the interior group better. And I also, so I'm acquainted at the way this receiver room looks right now. Malik neighbors is dynamite. He's phenomenal, but he's a great, great player. And I think that he is a future star as we already saw from his rookie year, but gosh, I don't know who his, his second running made is like I really think that this now puts a lot of pressure on the giants with one of their first two picks to take a receiver.
And one of the worst things the team can do is reach because of a need and I'm a little fearful that maybe they would reach on taking carnal tape, even though he doesn't really make a lot of sense to me as the fit overall pick and I really don't want them to make a mistake like that. The last piece with this, I do, I'm a quite bit intrigued by them getting admins. Does that mean sunny styles off the table? And do they now end up going with Caleb downs instead? Does that open the door for that ending up being a lock for their selection? Please Caleb downs. Caleb downs. I hear and there's a, I think it's, you know, look, we do sports talk radio, but I, if I hear somebody, if I hear one more of my friends on WFA and say Jeremiah love at number five, I'm going to freaking lose my mind. Yeah, we can't, we can't go, we can't go with the running back as I love Jeremiah love, but that is not the biggest need that they need to go somewhere on defense, maybe taking offensive lineman, Jeremiah love is just kind of feels like sake one all over again.
Yes, yes, all right, Joe, all right, love it, man, appreciate it. All right, we have, we love having you on, dude, enjoy the rest of your week, enjoy the conference tournament.
