JNIM Militants Kill 12 Truck Drivers in Mali

Human Rights Watch revealed that Islamist militants from the Al-Qaeda linked group, Jamah at Newsrad, Al-Islam Wal-Muslimin, killed 10 long-haul truck. Drivers and two teenager apprentices in Mali's Western-Kays region, late January. The attackers hit a military escort-of-fuel convoy of at least 40 trucks heading to supply the area. The convoy had left Senegal's capital, Deskar, on January 27th, and crossed into Mali the next day. Jain and fighters opened fire, causing drivers to abandon their trucks. They captured several people, executed 12, and let others go. This group has become the strongest militant force in the region, operating mainly in Mali and Burkina Faso. It seeks to impose Islamic rule across the Sahel and push into coastal West Africa. Meanwhile, six drivers have been missing since the attack, and Mali's truck drivers union reported that 15 were captured and killed on the spot.
