Jets Sign Dane Belton, Strengthen Safety Spot

The New York Jets are beefing up their safety spot after trading for star Minka Fitzpatrick earlier this week. They followed that up by signing 25-year-old Dane Belton from the New York Giants to a one-year deal worth $4 million guaranteed. The contract includes incentives that could push the total value to $6 million. Belton brings solid experience with four seasons under his belt, mostly with the Giants. He's known for his toughness, starting all 17 games over the last three years and racking up 240 career tackles, plus six. Interceptions. That reliability gives the Jets some much-needed depth. In coverage, Belton has room to improve, allowing a high completion rate and some big plays against him last season. Still, he's not expected to star full-time next to Fitzpatrick, serving more as insurance behind younger guys like Malachi Moore.
