The 47-year-old actor shared his story on the March 17th episode of The Not Skinning, but Not Fat Podcast. He explained that intense pressure and public scrutiny pushed him to seek escape through substances. He first entered rehab back in 2007. His representative confirmed on March 19th that he checked into a facility to address alcohol issues. Metcalf admitted he has not stayed sober the entire time since then and has slipped up during his career. The struggles run deep in his family. Both of his grandfather's were severe alcoholics, and his father has achieved significant sobriety after his own battles. Metcalf hoped the addiction would skip his generation, but it did not. These days, he says he is in a great place with his sobriety. He maintains a relationship with his father, describing it as not perfect, but a positive start.
