Jemma the Sloth Moves to Marwell Zoo

0:00On March 9th, a baby sloth named Jimma, born at Jersey Zoo, is set to travel to Marwell Zoo in Hampshire by the end of March. The two totes sloth arrived in January 2025 and is found a perfect breeding match with a male named Santos there. This move is part of a European program to grow the species numbers and captivity. Jersey Zoo brought in Jimma's parents the first sloths of their kind back in November 2022 to kick off the local breeding efforts. Staff always planned for her to contribute to the population boost once she matured. The zoo share that visitors love seeing the slow-moving animals up close and her departure marks a key step in conservation. Fans have been excited about her progress since birth. Sadly, Jimma's mother Terry passed away suddenly in October 2025 from a blocked airway and her father Rio died earlier that year, at age 23. The zoo handle both losses with care during post mortems.
