Jeff Simmons Show: Takeaways from Seahawks opener

0:00Well, welcome to a last edition of the Jeff Simmons show where back at our normal time, Thursday's a noon and thanks to everyone who's coming on here to talk football. And Brian was just on with Kondra Diggs and really good stuff there. So yeah, happy for everyone to be back here for another episode. And yeah, this is a much more interesting episode that I thought midway through the first half of the last night. Tough start with the game, but yeah, we're obviously we're not going to have many games on Wednesdays. This will be the only Wednesday game of the season. So most of the Thursday shows will be about something different. So good afternoon, everyone. Good morning, wherever you are. And look, we have a lot to cover today. That was a pretty interesting game, last night. We've already had stuff come out of it. Yeah, so this will be the only show directly after a game. So let's enjoy that.

1:00So yeah, what's up to everyone? Whether you're in Seattle and Kanda around the country, but yeah, we're going to go over basically anyone who listened to our post game show last night. Well, some of these will sound pretty familiar. And frankly, anyone who didn't hear it or didn't hear anyone will be new to this. So off the top, like I'm sure everyone's caught up by now. I'm sure Brian talked about it. But we got some information on Sam Darnold. And seemingly it's pretty good. It seems like he's going to be out for one to three weeks somewhere in there for sure next week, maybe two or three weeks. And then it seems like it's going to be drew lock from there. So things are positive. There's been tweets from Adam Schaefter, Ian Rappapur, Turing from Mike McDonald today on him, Brock and Salk Show, really, really cool stuff. But I'm not going to spend much time on Darnold. There wasn't much to learn there. I mean, five plays. One of them was an awesome throw by the way. I was very excited to see him on that first drive. And we're going to build out kind of my takeaways from the game.

2:00Brock and Salk does a segment after every game, preseason game, where they go through their takeaways. And fear we've got through minds. So big takeaway coming out of last night. I think the number one reason I was most encouraged and we'll get into drew lock and some of this other stuff. To me, the number one takeaway from the game last night was what a program win that was for Mike McDonald and the guys. And we're going to really focus on what we mean by program win is to win a game with the backup quarterback with so many DBs out a situation where like New England really should have won that game. Just the way the game script went, Darnold played five plays. They were awful. They were shot out on the first half. That's a script that New England should win on. The fact that Seattle not only pulled it out, I think they left at least eight points on the board. If we really look at it. To me, that just says so much about Mike McDonald, the CX organization, the program. And really like, so takeaway number one for me, obviously, that was a big program win

3:02is we got to start in the secondary. And look, I don't think there's a single CX fan going into that game last night who felt particularly good about the third corner spot. They had signed Trayvon Diggs. We were wondering on our pregame show Monday if he was going to play. Terry Arnold was at it. Julian Neal didn't really practice in training camp. He was warming up a bunch and some people wondered if he was going to get some outside corner snaps. A lot of us were worried about this. I know we've talked about it last night. Like people have been pretty hard on me and my approach it over the past year. So I don't think there was a single CX fan that felt good about that spot going into the game. One of my shows a couple weeks ago, we were wondering whether they should have drafted a corner in the first round again. And so for Neal, my approach to not only come out and dispel that, he played a really good game. Not only does he make the play to tip the ball to himself, it has that first interception. The advanced numbers on him have been really good. I think there were four throws in his direction. I think he averaged.

4:03I think he left two four two catches on four throws and a very low yards per catch. I think number one takeaway from that game is that he held up not only did he held up. He played well. So I've seen like Kobe Bryant and Quantran Diggs and really, really encouraging performance. Look, New England after AJ Brown went out didn't have the best receiving corner in the world. Let's have that caveat. But I think everyone coming out of that game had to be pretty surprised about the play of Neal, my approach. Because that was a, that was just a position on the team that they had to trade for that corner with the chargers. They signed two corners in the last two weeks. Like all of a sudden, if Julian Neal can play like this spot could be pretty deep all of a sudden. But we don't, I've talked about this week one can be a liar. And we don't want to get ahead of our skis. But I think the play of Neal, my pressure was very encouraging. I think you have to come out of that game, give that guy all kinds of props, the advanced numbers, the film, really encouraging side.

5:05And again, that was a spot with AJ, like AJ Brown had a pretty easy slant on him early in the game. And if you really want to expand this out, not just preach it, I think a lot of guys in the secondary had just really encouraging performances. And I got it. I've been kind of talking about on my, on my Twitter account or ex account, whatever you want to call it. I, so our real Hawks up group chat when the Ocado was missing practice was really uncomfortable. I don't know, maybe I was just coping or I thought Ronnie Thomas would be fine. I thought just business that he's played before. They have good coaching, Leslie Frazier, all those guys are Carl Scott, Mike, they're all there. But Ronnie Thomas really impressed me last night. There's a play that I tweeted out earlier where it's whether they have them deep in Patriot territory and they throw the ball out to the right flat. And Thomas comes up and he's not a big dude. He comes up and just like wraps him. He has a great tackle.

6:07I thought that was a really good play. And I'm the Pricet pick. Obviously Pricet makes the incredible play to tip the ball and catch it going backwards. But if you look at that interception, that play was really caused by Ronnie Thomas who came across the field and not going to lie. It was pretty cool to see a C.O.X secondary guy named Thomas number 24 coming across. It's still weird he's wearing March on Lynch's number. But I gotta say, Ronnie Thomas really impressed me because look, you're down Nicki Minaj worry. You've already lost Kobe Bryant from last year. Bud Clark's the guy. A lot of people would have thought would have been the next man up to be down basically Ocata Clark. Ronnie Thomas had a broken hand and missed some time in camp. For Ronnie Thomas to come in and not only just be competent but play well as well as Pricet, that was massive. My number one takeaway was just the encouraging signs from the center. When you add to it, I thought Julian Love had a really good game. Obviously he makes that great break on the ball. I thought that tackle he had on Hunter Henry where the first play the second half, he gets

7:09down the field and he just smokes him in the most clean fashion to you. No question whether it was 30 year illegal. So to see Julian Love come out and play a really strong game on top of everything they had going on. Obviously the play of the game at the end, Josh Jope and Josh Jope had that tough, underthrowing PI. It's the hardest play for a DB to make where it's the underthrowing deep ball and the corner's got to come back to the ball. But I think Joe was already beat off the top on that kind of flea flicker and the kind of the trick play they use there. But you got to say Josh Jope recovered. I thought he had a huge tackle at a key moment of the game. And obviously the play that Joe makes in the end zone to get the feet down, toe tap the catch and Evan and Braden who works on our show. Look, I don't want to draw crazy conclusions, but it was certainly a little poetic or ironic to have almost the same score of the San Francisco game. The same play where the quarterback just throw he was the ball to the right corner.

8:10And last year, Wulan froze and Jake Ton just jumped over him and had the game winning catch. This year, alternatively, Jope makes a great play. And look, Joe is going to be a corner. I think it's going to be up and down. I think there's going to be moments to where you saw what happened to AJ Brown, but you got him at eight million a year. There's a really good deal. Like a lot of people were upset based on somehow training camp goes, but Joe really recovers. The tackling, the coverage, I really liked. And it says so much again. This is where I said this is a program win because it says so much not only about Mike, but Carl Scott, Leslie Frazier, Jeff Howard, the safety coach, the fact that they're able to get all these guys ready to play on short like Ocado was expected to play all week. And he gets injured with hamstring. He doesn't practice the last two days. And for Rodney Thomas to come out and not only be competent to play good on top of the other corners, that was not the storyline. I would have thought coming out of this game. I thought the number one thing that would have been concerned and coming out of this game was the play of the secondary.

9:11And they answered in every spot. Nicky Minwari should be back in the next week or so. And if not next week, the week after I thought Devon and other Spoon still had some moments, we were going to see him as a blitzer, but all kinds of guys. And so again, to me, that was the number one sign coming out of this game. And so really, really, I think every C.O.K. fan is going to be pretty encouraged by what they saw from Joe Pricet and Rodney Thompson. I don't know like the severity of Tio Cotto's injuries. But that was such a big deal. And I saw a procured come out and say like for your third string corner for Rodney Thomas, for those guys to come out, I really like to tell those guys played. So look, Mike and John, they've been holding on to Pricet on that roster for several years. People have been wondering what kind of role it is. And Brian pointed that out today, but all of a sudden, look, I want to emphasize this enough. Well, you don't want to have, we don't want to overreact to one game.

10:14But if Pricet can keep building on this and then all of a sudden you have digs and you have Terry and Arnold who might come down the stretch and Julian Neal and the kid they tread to from the chargers, all of a sudden that's kind of in a buttons of corners. So this is going to be really interesting to watch. I love the competition in the building. It's going to get the best set of Pricet. And look, let's not just assume these next couple of weeks, you got to go up against Marvin Harrison and Michael Wilson next week. Michael Wilson just got a lot of money. So it's a much tougher receiver matchup than what they saw in the second half after Andrew Brown one out. And number two, they got to go play Terry McClore and Stefan Diggs the week after. So let's not slow up. Let's not get too excited. But first impression really, really encouraging. So that's my number one takeaway. All right, I don't have any music. Maybe I need to add some takeaway music like Brock and self does. But let's move to number two. I really liked what I saw from Jerry and Price. And look, I'll be honest, I was very uncomfortable when they drafted a running back at 32.

11:19I thought corner was just too obvious. I was starting to get uncomfortable when I saw Mike Washington in the preseason. And I saw Jonah Coleman in the preseason. Guys who I really thought would have been their third round pick if they took corner early. But like right when you saw that first run from Price, you can see the power. Mike Renner of CBS Sports, former PFF guy put it a really cool video of just like the first three rounds he had with the zone blocking scheme. I recommend everyone go watch it. I think I put it on my Twitter today. I've just showed three zone blocked runs. Man, he looked good. He looked good. Like the first run it's blocked perfectly. He has a beautiful cut back. He looked powerful. He looks explosive. He looks strong. I honestly wanted to see more of them. I thought he had 10 runs. I think the average five yards of carry. And look, I looked it up. And so I remember Lindsey Rhodes put it at its wheat. I think it was in June somewhere. And I got mad at it. I'll be honest.

12:20But it said like if Jerry and Price is only going to have 10 to 12 touches of the game, is that a good use of a first round pick? And so I actually went back and looked up, Jemir Gibbs and B. Jean Robinson. And if you play fantasy football, you would have known what I'm talking about here. Because I have a keeper league. I drafted Jemir Gibbs out of his rookie draft. So Jemir Gibbs first year they had him and David Montgomery splitting carries. And they were giving him eight to 12 carries a game with a couple catches. And it was very frustrating for fantasy owners or people watching the Lions. You can be like, you can see how good this guy is. I am guessing just based on historical usage and maximizing value. I'm guessing it's going to be like that. So I would love to see more Jadarian price. Like that's my takeaway number two. I'm guessing it's going to be around the same kind of usage we saw last night. And I thought Hulani looked. I saw what Hulani did in past protection. And he does make a noticeable difference there. But in the past when I've seen George Hulani, he's looked a little more explosive.

13:21He's looked a little stiff all pretty season when I've seen him. And he he'll get what's blocked for him. But I'm not looking for like an even split in my opinion. Because Emmanuel Wilson came in for a couple short yardage plays. And yeah. And so when I saw Lindsey Rhodes put out that tweet, I went and researched Bishon Robinson's rookie year and Jameer Gibbs's rookie year. They both averaged 10 yards of carry. I mean, not 10 yards. Okay, that would be really good. They both averaged 10 carries a game until November their rookie year. And these were guys who were drafted 12th overall, 8th overall, in a stacked draft that had Will Anderson and Jalen Carter and Devon Witherspoon. Like these were really high picks. Price was picked 32 at like the worst draft class we've maybe seen since 2013. And so we come out and I just didn't know what to expect from this guy. And see him cutting back that smoothie, looking powerful and explosive. I heard Mike McDonald talking about it today. I've heard some of the videos talking about it today.

14:24I thought price on those zone blocked runs like the outside zone, which is going to be the basis of Brian Flare. You can see all of a sudden why the rumor was San Francisco wanted to use him. But my guess is I'm going to be frustrated, especially with Drew Locke probably playing the next game or two. That that might be an even split between those guys. And even like the catch where Locke was a little frantic and yet to like get it out to the price and space, I thought he looked very smooth catch on the ball, which was which was a big knock on him. I know there's ball security questions, which is maybe why they're limiting him down near the goal line or the red zone area. And why they had a manual Wilson on the field. But my just big takeaway is I want to see more of this guy. Like he looks like a really good back. I don't know how his upside is yet. But like again, first impression. I can see why they kept this guy in bubble wrap. And frankly, it was pretty exciting. And so yeah, like go watch that clip from runner up those early outside zone runs that are blocked so well. See ups are just blowing guys off the line.

15:26And number one thing, price just looks from just an eye test perspective. Yeah, average five years of carry. I'm sure in advanced analytics were pretty good. And even on the play where Drew, one of Drew Locke's worst plays down in the red zone where he just guns the ball right at Christian Gonzalez on that slam from JSN, price is wide open in the flat. And apparently some other receivers were open too, but that would have been cool to get him a touchdown in the first game because. 10 carries 52 yards, 5.2 yards of carry. Like that's really good. And again, I'm guessing one sharpening ready. He's going to take a lot of whole on his snaps. And they'll pretty hard to even imagine where Emmanuel Wilson's room will be. But I kind of say a lot of the worry about losing Ken Walker seeing one game of price. Didn't ease it a little bit like we're not quite there yet, but it did ease it a little bit. He looked much better than I would have guessed. I thought it would have been a really tough game against those defensive tackles. So really strong start.

16:28Take away number two. So take away number three is I thought the offensive line was a really mixed bag. And there were some good stuff I mentioned earlier. The early plays off the ball. The early plays off the ball. Looks really good in the run game like the first two drives. The like the run game looked really, really good. I'd say the past protection. There were some misses and there were some pretty iffy stuff. And so maybe that's first game stuff and look the offensive line starters haven't gone up against. Had gone any preseason snaps. They haven't seen anything, but. Just going through the Brian Baldwin or video. Going through some other highlights. I think you can isolate different plays by almost every offensive lineman. And there are some tough moments just across the board. So let's go through them like. There's a clip this morning of. Brow drew lock and some of the things he did.

17:28There's a play where Dremont Jones just burns by a blue kiss. And Dremont Jones is not like that we saw Dremont Jones for two years in Seattle. Three years in Seattle. He wasn't particularly explosive. Lucas had the offside that I thought was a bullshit call, but. Some people say it's legitimate on that bar near play. But yeah, Lucas didn't look like a pro bowler yesterday. He had some good moments and see up some tough moments. There's a play where Charles Cross just doesn't see. The lineman coming down and one of the defensive lineman on New England just blows by. So there was moments where Lucas got blown by. There was a short yardage play early in the game. I think it was a third and one where they went to Halani. And it's blocked absolutely perfectly. And Grace Able just flat out doesn't pick up the guy. And the guy comes right into the hole stops him on third and one. And I think they had to pump. And so every one of those guys, there's moments for again. If you go watch that runner video and you want to see the run blocking of the unit.

18:30It was tough and just. And maybe this is just drew lock stuff because you guys have practice with the one online and the pressure of coming in. But procedurally there were some issues all throughout the game. There was false starts and the Bradford had an issue. There's a legal motion. So again, I don't think this is signed like the offensive line might take a step back. Then this is what week one looks like. This is why week one tends to be not a predictor of future performance. So I think as much as we saw like the strength of the corners. I think offside I think the old line had an okay game. I think the old line had okay game. The run blocking was certainly can. And they're the we use a play action as the game went along. Pretty good. So the reason I got a little concerned about the offensive line is. Brian Baldinger and everyone on the show should know Brian Baldur. He did a video of drew lock. And going over some of the best throws he made in the game last night. And to be fair, like I thought locked it a really solid job.

19:32But if you go watch that video, there's just moments of breakdowns and pass protection that I just didn't notice on the TV copy. There's a moment where one of the best throws he makes lay in the game where both Milton Williams and Christian Barmore blow through the interior of the line and lock makes a great throwoff is back foot to get to play to JSN. There's that throw to JSN on the right sideline where Lucas just gets blown by. So cross got blown by Marshall knew how to put it a video of Charles Cross just not. Anticipating the right move by the offensive line gave you a guess at a play where he just blew by the guys. So again, I didn't realize the extent of the pass pro really until I saw that video. I thought it was okay on the first watch, but that's first game. Like I keep saying a week one has weird. It's jittery. Why? Because the offensive lines haven't played the defensive lines haven't played. This is where we saw it. So like the Super Bowl, they were blitzing so much. It seemed like Sam was running for his life the whole game. It wasn't like that.

20:33There was just moments of bad protection. But again, the best stuff we saw late in the game, the run blocking, still a lot of encouraging signs. Like when you saw those guys blow off the ball in the first two drives, and this is what happens. Like the first game is an extension of the preseason. And because guys don't play any starters now. Overall, I don't think it's anything to be worried about. They're going up against some pretty weak D lines coming up. So we'll see Arizona, Washington, not exactly World beaters of pass rushers. So I thought New England wasn't either, but they had their struggles. I'm hoping to see Cross and Lucas just take that next step again. But just too many starters out. There are too many starters who haven't played in the preseason. This is what it looks like guys. So that's early takeaway number three. Let's go through some more. Take a number four is I'm hoping that we can figure out how to use Rasheed Shaheed a

21:35little better. And Shaheed is kind of an odd game. And I was kind of ranting about this. I don't want to go too deep into this because it might have been something he was coached. But I was just confused by how, why should he kept fair catching the ball? And maybe it was because they knew their quarterback was out. Maybe they're like, look, we know how good you are. We can't take any chances. There was one play where it was like deep in the territory, but there was about 10 yards of root. And he fair caught the ball. And so I thought Shaheed was just like Uber conservative. And so you got a wonders at Jharba is that Mike because it's not every time that dude touches the ball. And he didn't look like slow or anything or worrisome. And I would have liked to see that play that got called back by procedure pounding that he was about to run as the running back. And it looked like it was going to be blocked perfectly. But yeah, take my number four. I want to see them kind of let Shaheed lose as a returner. So I don't know if that's an issue with just how it's being coached. I'm sure when the press conference has come up later this week, we'll see that.

22:41But let's see, let's see a little thing, a little of the Shaheed we saw last year where they just let that guy lose. So again, we don't know. We don't know what's going to happen there. But I found myself increasingly frustrated. So I was a little amused when Evan came on and started ranting about that last night. Because yeah, I had the same thought watching the game. Like I'm like, I don't get it. Like there's the one where they have them pin deep and he's basically at the 40. He doesn't even like try to run the ball back. And so it was weird to see him kind of a non factor in the game. And they really limited him the Super Bowl. But it didn't seem like they use them a lot down the field. I heard he was open on a couple plays. I think moving forward again, they had their backup quarterback in protection concerns. I can see why things went a little wonky in game one. So that was another takeaway from this game. Let's keep going. I'll go take away number six here. The defensive line in the end really took over the game.

23:44Like that last year is even though they had issues with the edge. I'd say, Nuo Su, I'd say other areas. Nuo Su was really the best edge player for the C-ox last night. But it was really optimistic to see Byron Murphy kind of come alive in the fourth quarter. Let him Williams move him up this spot. The Marcus Lawrence in the last play of the game. But you look at that last drive. They're moving May every single time. It was just funny on the broadcast to hear that like the moment he and rightfully so like Will Campbell statistically had a way better game than he had in the Super Bowl. I thought Elijah, if you're Tucker at his incredible. Wilson looked way better at center. But literally the second Chris Collins worth started praising them. Will Campbell took two penalties in a row. And then Byron Murphy had that amazing rush. Byron Murphy had the amazing rush and really got through. So I say at the end of the game, the defensive line did take over. But let's try to be balanced here. I'd say overall. Didn't see a ton of juice out of the edge rush group.

24:46And something we saw last year, Derek Hall had a really good rush in the game. Nuo Su had some really cool moments. And look, I'm not going to blame Nuo Su when Drake may get on the edge and those two are running for the corner. That's just a matchup he can't win. And that's where they designed the place that way. But I'm still I found it a bit concerning that they were able to get like the fourth and nine so easily make that like first and 20 come down so easily. I'm still a bit concerned. It's something a lingering effect from last year. I don't think they're disrupting the quarterback enough from the edge. And so that's something we're going to have to watch. And again, we're playing some weaker old lines coming up. So this is the chance for the D line again. And I thought Leonard Williams and Murphy were good. I don't think they like blew me away. But again, to see them in the fourth quarter come alive, you just see how much May was have to move off the spot. And I think that obviously for any seeout game, that really, really matters. And so we've covered a lot on defense. Next takeaway is I thought Brian Flurry really did a good job with Drew Locke in the second

25:50half. And I did not like how things were going obviously early in the game where it felt like they were just doing like the typical thing where they they bottle up and they start running, run, run pass and let's make it third and manageable. And I get why coaches do that sometimes. But I honestly think it's the worst way to manage a backup quarterback. And like right in the fourth quarter when they have that first interception and they moved the ball. A Julian Lug gets the interception. I love that they went right to Barnard and the flat like an easy throw they had the JSN throws in the flat. They did some really easy stuff. And that is the game went along. He made some like really good through a Drew Locke that's some really cool stuff. Obviously that third and 25 throw never amounted to anything and ended up getting screwed on that Barnard call. But the throw he makes there to layer the ball over the linebacker's head. Really cool. The throw he makes to cup where cup makes that insane catch. I first thought it was a pretty bad throw. It was a wobbly throw. But actually watching the play on the full all 22 view, you can actually see cup isn't

26:55really open at all. It's sticky coverage. And Locke actually puts the ball in the one spot where he can make a play. So you know what? I was kind of giving him crap and I thought there was a bad throw in my first watch. But I recommend everyone go watch that Baldi video. Locke did a lot of good things but I thought really flurry. He really just let him ease into the game a lot more. And that's what you got to do with the backup quarterback. It's got to be play actions. It's got to be throws to the flat. It's got to be easy stuff. I thought they were making it too complicated and too basic. When you start putting the training wheels on and trying to run that offense, it just puts so much stress on the defense. And again, I thought Locke for the most part played pretty well. Procedural things. He's got to get a little better and Brian made a good point last night that might have been flurry struggling to get the calls. But true looked like he was beating himself up pretty good at the end of the game. So my guess is he had some part of that because he looked like he had like a playbook in the watch. And so again, if you're just joining now, we got a lot of news on Darnal today.

27:59It seems like it's a muscle issue, not a hip fracture or anything like that judging from what the insiders are saying. It's going to be anywhere from one to three weeks potentially. It seems like it's going to be more of a pain tolerance thing because you got slammed into that artificial turf. And we're going to have to do things like that. So true is going to start next week in Arizona. I've seen some comments about like, are they going to sign another quarterback? No, the way you can hear Mike and those guys talking about Drew, I think they're pretty confident. So I'm Mike Sando and some of the other guys floating the idea of Jimmy Garoppolo. Maybe the team scared of having Jaylen Milroy that close to being a starting quarterback in the NFL. I'd be pretty surprised unless the news comes back on Darnal pretty bad. I think they're going to play with Drew the next two games and they're going to see whether they can get Darnal ready for that Chargers game. And then I have a quick turnaround and they might hold them out for that game too because I think they played Denver on a Thursday pretty quick after that.

28:59I think it's the San Francisco game and then that. So I think it's going to be Drew Locke. And look, I like how Florey used him. I look that fourth down call was amazing. But I thought Drew was pretty good. I think he was fine. I think he was the couple plays. I think he looks and the thing that Drew is when you watch backup quarterbacks typically in backups in general, what happens is in small samples. They can be good or they can be bad. But what happens is over like a larger sample three, five games. You tend to remember why they're backup quarterbacks. And often you'll get a Jordan love coming in or Gino or anything like that. Like when I watch Gardner Minshu you watch and play a game or two and you're like, oh, this guy can be a starter. Then you watch and play five games. It's like, oh yeah. Okay. That's why he's never made it. So that's what tends to happen with backups and it's kind of what I'm expecting with Locke. I think Locke played a professional game against San Francisco a couple of years ago. He had that crazy field game where he sucked for 90% of the game and had the drive of his

30:00life. And so that's kind of what I'm expecting with Drew. I'm expecting to be a little volatile. I think it kind of levels the playing field where games where I thought the Cocks would have won for sure is not so fast. So I saw some Cocks fans starting to tweet Russell Wilson last night. I think we're getting a little crazy. And look, I get the first half was pretty depressing. And I watched it and I was wondering like what is going on? What is going on? But I've heard like quarterbacks and players talk like players on their team. I think quandary said I'm going to show with Brian. Like they think this guy is as good as a backup quarterback as he runs in the league. So I think we got to relax a little bit here. And so I thought yeah. I think Drew is going to start the next two games. And I think Florida can do a decent job with them. So again, other takeaway and this doesn't have anything to do with the Cocks. 31:00But big takeaway here is New England's got to feel pretty pretty discouraged. That's a devastating loss. They have a hard schedule coming up this year. You get the starting quarterback out after five plays. You're up seven, nothing and a half time. The Cocks have 10 penalties and they're kind of following each other. The Cocks actually gave away eight points. They take that illegal motion penalty, even though it was a delay of game probably where the both cup and ho-on-y move earlier and cups wide open for a touchdown. If they score there, they would have scored there. That's an extra four. And if they don't take that delay of game, we're looking at second and inches from the three yard line, they're probably scoring there. So Cocks could have won this game 21 to 10. But look, we got to start a Drake May. I thought he had some moments where he just drove me crazy with him extending his legs. But the interceptions last night were just bad. Their misses, but you just can't make that throughout the end. And so to miss that game and then to have your quarterback coming out of there wondering, this guy, like, like to not know the risk reward of not knowing to throw that ball away

32:05when you can probably go to overtime is perplexing. So if I'm New England, I'm pretty apoplectic this morning because you lost AJ Brown for high ankle sprained two to four weeks probably. He's a huge dude. He might be able to heal faster, but Romeo Dubs looks like a total stiff. And outside of Will Campbell and maybe Gabe Yakis, not a lot of super encouraging sides coming out of that game. Their offense looks similar to last year without AJ Brown. No juice. Like they they they didn't have traving Henderson last night and outside of Ramondra, Stevenson from runs in the last drive. That came easy. Like when Mac Hollins is like giving away tells that you're line of scrimmage, I'd be pretty discouraged. So I'm trying to think about missing anything. The last one as well as I think we got to get it. I like to roll you involve a little bit like some design target to him get him involved early in the game. I know Tori Horton's working his way back to such another weapon that they're going to have to figure out. But between Shaheed and some of these guys, they got to figure out how to get a rollo going

33:09because I think he is a big part of what can make their offense go. I'm a drew lock. It's kind of all bets are off. So maybe this is beyond. But I think flurry, the different uses of personnel. I think Flurry's going to only grow from that. And it's good. Flurry now has kind of 10 days to sit back, watch the rest of the league. See what's going on because week one again, it's fool's gold. It's a liar. It tends to be a little phony. And look like guys who are calling for Russ or Jalen Milro or anything like that. Like, let's not get stupid. Like drew locks is a competent backup quarterback. He could come in. Pull the backup quarterback is to go 500 and they have some winnable games on their schedule. If he has to play the chargers and the Niners and Denver, that's going to be tough. You're kind of flipping a coin at that point. But look, the defense very encouraging and I they obviously mix Nick last night. They're missing some playmakers right now. I think Ernest Jones had particularly flashy game. But again, he's such a good leader for them. And with their spoons, Blitz has got a little obvious by the end. But so look.

34:10Pretty good sign. If you're the Patriots, you got to be like pretty devastated about that. You know what? That makes me happy. The Patriots got basically going to a free ride for 20 years. And to see all their fans just starting to worry about the media. Just starting to worry about Drake May. Starting to worry about is this team kind of torches this year. They don't have a first round pick next year. They have one this year though. But there are some questions around that team right now. Fagia Brown's out. They don't have skill weapons. They look slow. They don't look that interesting. They got to be wondering about 20 million a year for Romeo Dubs after game one. But again, we don't care about the Patriots too much here on the show. We're not going to see them anymore. But look, I think this kind of good comment here from Construct, 87. Yeah, I think this I mentioned this earlier. But the edge rushers are not this and that was an issue with staffer last year. And I was just reading Mike Sando's story today. Mike Sando did an amazing story on the overall issues like infrastructure issues of why the

35:16Rams and the Packers have overlooked special teams. And Mike actually in the story talked about how he met with Sean this year went over some different like statistics and slides of showing him all the areas and showing them how they haven't emphasized how many special teams coaches they've had. But one of the stats that Mike showed Sean McVeigh and he said Sean kind of knew this coming. So it was based on like EPA or Win percentage based on purely offense and defense and the three games they played. The Rams were three touchdowns better than Seattle last year. But the Rams were so bad on special teams that they gave up every one of those points back and more. And that was eye popping. And he's like that kind of justify what McVeigh was thinking. And maybe that's why he's been so arrogant off every off season. But there was just games where they weren't affecting Stafford enough. And so yeah, Construct A7 like definitely crossed my mind last night wondering. There's points where I'm like, well, is that going to be their first round pick this year? And I thought Darnell might be done for the season.

36:17But yeah, we're not quite there. We got to see what happens the next few weeks. But I still love the group they have. I just think they are missing a little that speed disruptive guy. We saw last night like they couldn't close the game on fork down. And so a couple of things we need to go over before I wrap up here. Obviously interesting game tonight. Obviously interesting game tonight because I want both teams to lose. So I don't know if it's just one of those things where I cheer for like I think I this year I hate the Rams a little more, but I don't want. I hate the nine or it's one of these things where I just want. I want both teams to lose. So it's going to be interesting to watch the game tonight because honestly. I think we sometimes forget how good we have it. And with this coach and this defense and the fact that they can win a game without their quarterback against a team that was in the Super Bowl.
