• Trump summons DC’s US Attorney Jeanine Pirro to the White House, saying that she had “choked” when she undermined Trump’s narrative that damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was the work of vandals, and dropped charges against those charged with “vandalism.” She has not been fired, nor did she offer her resignation—yet.

• The world ablaze: Aaron Farinacci, a 37-year-old Spokane resident, is arrested for arson related to the Old Trails Fire, which sprang up on Saturday alongside two other major fires. The fires, which began in the Spokane, Washington, area, have burned more than 8,000 acres and remained 0% contained. 65,000 people were under evacuation orders. Hundreds of structures, including homes and businesses, have been destroyed. Three lions die of heatstroke at Tama, the largest zoo in the Tokyo metropolitan area following a severe heatwave, up to 40 degrees Celsius in recent weeks. In their natural habitat in Africa, the animals are accustomed primarily to dry heat.
