Jay’Mon Battle-Lewis Acquitted in Shooting Death

A 20-year-old from Jefferson County is now free after a jury acquitted him in the shooting death of a 17-year-old back in 20-23. The jury found J. Mon-Battle Lewis not guilty in the death of J. D. Alexander Lowe. The two knew each other, and deputies responded to shots fired at a home on Mojave Drive shortly after 2pm on December 23rd. Battle Lewis had spent more than two years in the Jefferson County jail since his arrest that same day. Lowe was wounded at the scene and could not be saved despite efforts by first responders. The trial started this week before Circuit Judge Candice Pickett, with Battle Lewis taking the stand in his own defense. Jurors weighed options like murder, manslaughter, or self-defense before delivering the not-guilty verdict on Thursday. Public defenders Chad Black and Trent Testa, along with investigative Brittany Rogers, handled his case in uncovered key evidence that helped sway.
