Did Jayden Bob do enough to put himself in the Heisman conversation in week one? You are Lockdown Gators, your daily podcast on the Florida Gators, part of the Lockdown
Podcast Network, your team every day. Hello and welcome back to another episode of Lockdown Gators, part of Lockdown Podcast Network at your team every day. Thanks for making Lockdown Gators. Your first listen of the day every day. You are available daily and free Webdism Podcasts and on YouTube. And I am brand new. Also, I forgot if I have any said that or not. But Jayden Bob against FAU had a monster game where he had a grand total of 15 carries for 140 yards. And I'm just to be clear, I'm putting this by the PFF numbers. I'll talk about that in a second. The 15 carries 140 yards, three touchdowns. After the third touchdown, Jayden Bob did the Heisman pose. He put the hand down, the leg up, did the Heisman pose.
And here's the thing. That's a pretty strong start. If you're going to push for a Heisman, right? If you're going to push for a Heisman, it's a pretty strong start. Jayden Bob on the other, I guess I'll just say, stat sites, right? I'm going to do a stat sites sports reference. Jayden Bob has 160 rushing hours. The difference is simply that there was that snap that went over his head that Harrison Warren, when they motioned into Wildcat or shifted into Wildcat and then the snap went over his head. Some places will count that as a negative 20 yard rush for Jayden Bob because he recovered the fumble. And so he recovered the fumble on a play that lost 20 and so they give him the negative rushing yards. Some places don't do that. And so that's kind of just where the difference lies. If you look at rushing yards per game, Jayden Bob at 160 is fourth in the country.
And if you put it at the 100 and 40 that he had outside of that or like if you include that then still just you know sixth or something like that. So it was still incredibly productive. But he hit the husband pose at the end. And again, I will say this, I don't think that he is, I don't think that he's going to be a Heisman guy this year. Right. Frankly, I don't think that the team is going to win 10 games this year, which outside of an extreme circumstance, if you don't win 10 games and I'm just I'm just using that number. Then it's probably going to be pretty tough to actually go out there and win the Heisman. Right. As a running back because you're probably not going to be running the ball exactly a ton there. But again, this is someone that is going to be incredibly productive.
I don't think anybody's surprised about that. Right. Yet Travis Hunter a couple of years ago, when it as a wider receiver, which is a non traditional winning spot, right? It's been very quarterback happy. Travis Hunter won. He was a wider receiver DB. They didn't win 10 games. They didn't do it, but he had the insane numbers, right? Jaden Deinos insane numbers for a quarterback. That's going to give you a boost Caleb Williams insane numbers for a quarterback. Like the last running back to win the Heisman is Derek Henry in 2015. It's nuts that it's been that long, but there's been so many quarterbacks. And then you had Devonta Smith and you had Travis Hunter as receivers that do that, that won it. I don't know why I said they do that, that won it. And so to be a running back, it's now become increasingly difficult to win the Heisman. That's now gone the way of the NFL MVP. And it's just become like the best quarterback award, right? So I do think that the likelihood of Jaden ball winning the Heisman pretty slim, right?
However, an important part when talking about the Heisman is also just what the production looks like long term, right? Because there are guys that are going to have easier schedules. There are guys that are going to maybe kind of like, like, I think the term that I'm going to use here is like, Hannibalize themselves. And with guys like, I know Kiwan Lacey got banged up, but like we've talked about like Trinidad Jamblest and Kiwan Lacey. Like, if they're both having great years, then neither of them is probably going to be in the Heisman conversation, right? On three, put out their college football Heisman poll. The top 10 Jaden ball is on it. We're going to talk about it when we get back with locked on Gators. We are available daily and free business podcast and on YouTube and the on three Heisman poll that they put out came out after week one and I'm not surprised with most of the names on there, right? You've got Malachi Tony is number I'm going to I'm going to read them in order Malachi Tony is number one Darryn Mensa is number two. I've said that when we did the SEC preview show and and we just happen to talk about who we thought was in the Heisman. I said that I didn't want to say my actual answer because my actual answer was Darryn Mensa and I still feel like he's probably I probably have him above Mali right now because Mali is an incredible player. I'm not taking a single thing from like look I hate Miami. I get paid to give my honest opinion.
So while I can talk trash and I could say whatever I also have to be honest right that's what I get paid to do. And so I think Mali is incredible but I think that Darryn Mensa is going to be able to get the production to out shine just that single productive side from Mali just because Darryn Mensa you know he has other options that he could feed also that are also quality. It's not like it's like oh it's Mali or nobody right like they've got weapons there. And so I think that Darryn Mensa will be productive and I think when he starts using his legs a bit more then you'll also see that. Turn to that Chamblis is number three and look if their defense this year looks anything like it did against Louisville on Sunday then yeah they're going to be in forward and I turn to that Chamblis is going to have to go right. Darryn Mensa turn to that Chamblis are going to be the two quarterbacks that are in that conversation consistently and okay if turn to that Chamblis has to play hero ball. He's have to play hero ball.
Jeremiah Smith is the next guy that everyone's talking about. He is the name that everybody thought Julian Sain is his quarterback which should automatically get him the husband. I'm not very high on them. He's got to play with Arthur Smith. He's never had more adversity right now than he does or than he does right now. Sam Livid is number five from LSU. Not a big Sam Livid fan but he did he did drop 51 on Clemson. He uses legs a lot and that was something that he did two years ago for Arizona State and it was really impressive and so he might be back. And so far all of these teams I think all these picks the top five are all pretty fair. Number six is Camario Taylor and that's where I think we lose it. Number six is Camario Taylor and look Camario Taylor. Great player right. He's going to be incredibly productive like that offense.
Loves allowing you to be productive. It allows you to take those deep shots and Camario Taylor has a cannon for an arm against Louisiana Monroe this past week. He had 350 for passing yards and for passing touchdowns as well. Sort of rushing touchdown against Florida last year did not have to run the ball against Louisiana Monroe which by the way is a promising thing to have a quarterback that can run, not want to run. That like that to me is a huge sign. I'm like oh you can run but you're not just going to do it whenever. But I don't think they're going to win enough. I know they're not going to win enough for him to be a husband candidate. Dante Moore at seven Oregon needs to show something because that was not a pretty start to the year. And again like I'm not trying to be like oh yeah it's cooked it's over for him but that was not a pretty start to the year for them. And so we'll see what they're going to bring to the table long term. Jayden Mayava USC does look like they're kicking some ass again.
We'll see what they are long term. I never I'd never have faith in Lincoln Riley Mason Henshell from pit. They're going to be productive. They've got a good set up there to be a productive passing attack. And so he's going to be up there at least in terms of production. But for both Jayden Mayava Mason Henshell Camario Taylor. Like I don't I don't think they're going to be in the conversation to actually be Heisman winners just because I think they're not going to win enough which kind of what I said by Jayden Ma who's number 10 on the list. I don't think they win enough to say hey this guy is going to be in the Heisman candidate. Heisman conversation is a running back. I think if Florida's winning enough to have a Heisman candidate it's probably going to be Aaron Fylo. It's probably going to be your quarterback because that offense is going to have to be productive in order to have Heisman Calibre guys. But in order to win 10 games like I said, maybe 9 to right. Let's say 9. Still that would be really productive there offensively. Thanks for making a lot of Don Gators. You're first listen up the day every day. We are available daily and free.
