Ali Larajani, a top security adviser, often seen as running the country, and General Gholam, Reza Soleimani, head of the powerful Basij militia, both, died in the attacks. This follows U.S. and Israeli strikes that took out Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Kamenei and other officials. Reza Jani came from a prominent political family and served as parliament speaker for over a decade. He advised on nuclear talks and issued tough warnings against the U.S. Soleimani led the Basij since 2019, a force known for crushing.
