Islay Wins Corgi Derby, Stealing Race Day Spotlight

0:00On April 4th, a New Zealand-born Korgi, named Eastlay, just claimed victory in the fifth Korgi Derby, a 70-meter-dash held in Muscleburg, Scotland. Owned by Carolyn Ricardo, Ilay Outran 14 other fluffy competitors to grab the trophy in this fun race that's become a staple event. The Derby kicked off back in 2022 to honor Queen Elizabeth II's platinum Jubilee, since Korgi's were her absolute favorite breed. Over 50 dogs entered this year, so organizers ran a ballot to pick the finalists, including past champs like Georgi Rumbles from 2022. And Ronnie from last year. Evergreen runners, Toffee and Pippin showed up again, keeping their perfect attendance streak alive, while Ilay even edged out defending winner Juno, who trained by chasing seagulls on the beach. Fans love how these pint-sized speedsters still to show every time. Today also featured bigger horse races like the Scottish Spring Cup, the Queen's Cup, and a fresh edition called the Goliath Cup.
