Irish PM Slams Lebanon Peacekeeper Killing

0:00On March 30th, Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin just slammed the killing of an Indonesian peacekeeper in Lebanon, calling it a straight-up tragedy amid the chaos. Tensions exploded over four weeks back when Israel and the U.S. started bombing Iran, messing with global oil supplies and grounding flights everywhere. Now Israel's pushing a ground invasion into Lebanon, zeroing in on the Iranian-backed Hezbollah fighters. That hit hard on Sunday when a projectile blew up near Southern Lebanese village, taking out one Indonesian-U.N. peacekeeper and wounding three more. Martin stressed that peacekeepers got to be protected no matter what, and both sides need to step up. He's confirmed all Irish troops are safe, over 360 of them on a six-month stint with the U.N. interim force in Southern Lebanon. Ireland's been holding down peacekeeping there for nearly 50 years by the end of next year. With the U.N. mandate just extended to 2027, after some tough talks, this violence hits close to home, but our forces stay locked in, keeping the peace amid the storm.
