IRGC's Hidden Campaign: Shaping Conflict for Years

0:00On March 20th, on June 24th, 2003, six royal military policemen were killed in Majar al-Khabir in southern Iraq. They had been there to maintain order after Saddam Hussein's fall in train local police. The attackers turned out to be members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps working secretly in the area. British forces faced heavy losses from these operations over the next years. From March 2003 to April 2009, 136 U.K. service members died in Iraq, with most blamed on the IRGC and their local allies using roadside bombs, mortars, and shootings. The pattern continued in Afghanistan, where the IRGC supplied the Taliban with explosives and weapons. Britain lost another 457 personnel in Hellman province amid those intense fights. It also opened supply routes that led to over 600 American deaths from advanced Iranian minds. Even after troops pulled out, the IRGC shifted tactics to legal challenges back home.
