Al Jazeera News Updates — Iran's president apologies, Heavy air strikes on Tehran. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
Al Jazeera Podcasts Iran's president has apologised to neighbouring countries for attacking them. In a pre-recorded address released on-state television, the Suez Pizeshkiin says, after top commanders were killed in recent strikes, Iran's armed forces were free to fire at will. But since that decision was made, Iran has been targeting Gulf nations, hosting US troops, and explosion was seen near the runway at Dubai International Airport, where flights were briefly suspended. Our air attacks were also reported in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar. Here I feel it necessary regarding neighbouring countries that were attacked by Iran to apologise on my own behalf. Because of the vicious assault on us, we lost our supreme leader, our compatriots and loved ones. Our armed forces put their lives on the line to defend our territorial integrity when the commanders were no longer there, acting on their own initiative, our armed forces carried out all the actions that were necessary,
and they conducted the operations that were necessary and protected our country with strength. We do not intend to conduct an assault on neighbouring countries, but like I've said before, they are our brothers. We have to be hand in hand with our brothers in peace, and the interim leadership council approved a decision yesterday. That decision was relayed to our forces that they should no longer attack neighbouring countries, unless there is an attack on Iran staged on their soil. US and Israeli estrikes have pounded areas across Iran. The US and Israel say that only targeting government and military installations, but homes, hospitals, schools, and historic landmarks have also been severely damaged. The strikes have killed more than 1,300 Iranians since last week. Israel has been hit with another barrage of Iranian missiles. These are some of the interceptions that Trump Administration has approved. A $151 million emergency arms sale to Israel, at least 11 people have been killed, soon the country since the conflict began.
And in Lebanon, at least 16 people have been killed in armed confrontations between Hezbollah and Israeli soldiers in the back of valley, along the border with Syria. This is the aftermath of those battles in the town of Nabi Shid, where the impact of heavy Israeli estrikes is clearly visible.
