Il gigantesco diplodoco era simile a un serpente, dotato sia di un lungo collo e di una lunga coda che di zampe. È il dinosauro più lungo conosciuto, che si estende per circa 27 m, pur pesando leggermente meno dell’apatosauro.
Scoperto in Nord America, il diplodoco aveva le narici sopra la testa. Grazie a esse poteva tenere la testa quasi completamente sommersa.
