Anche se in ebraico si dice tinshèmeth, ritiene che il nome del“camaleonte” derivi da un’altra parola ebraica: nashàm (“ansimare”). Unaparola araba simile si traduce “sbuffante”. Il comune Chamaeleo chamaeleon èfrequente in Egitto e in Palestina.
Il camaleonte è una lucertola arboricola che si muove lentamente ed è notaper la sua capacità di cambiare colore. La risposta cromatica è determinatadalla temperatura, dall’intensità della luce e dallo stato emotivo.
