HS2's Massive Viaduct to Slide Over M6: Two-Day Closure

0:00On March 26th, HS2 has shared new drone footage showing a massive viaduct in the West Midlands that set to slide into place over the M6 motorway. This West Deck will carry high-speed trains heading toward Birmingham, and is being built in four sections from weathering steel. The first section, 107 meters long, and weighing 1,250 tons, is scheduled to move across the junction four southbound. Slip Road on April 11th, 2026. Crews expect the job to take just two days, with the slip road closing at 5am, that Saturday, and reopening by 10pm on April 12th. Road users will see some closures, but planners are working hard to keep disruptions low. Officials from National Highways emphasize safety first, while supporting HS2 smart methods to limit the number of shutdowns needed. This West Deck runs parallel to the East Deck, which went in successfully over three stages last year. The M6 should stay open during the second West section launch in June,
