About this episode
This episode walks through a specific two-minute reframe: naming the one literal next motion — dialing the number, opening the document, sending the text — instead of the abstract version of the task that's been sitting in your head. It's a small shift, but it's the difference between circling something for another day and actually starting it.
Use it on whatever you're putting off right now. It takes less time to do than it did to hear about.

Clydeley Dennis here with today's edition of Seven Good Minutes Extra. Today's idea, the thing you keep avoiding usually feels heavy because you're picturing the whole thing all at once. Naming just the next physical step makes it easier to actually start. Here's how to use that today. Think of the one task you're currently putting off. The call, the email, the conversation. Notice how you're describing it to yourself. It's probably abstract, dealing with the school issue, starting the project, having the talk. Now ask one question. What is the literal next physical motion? Not the whole task, just the first three minutes. Picking up the phone and dialing. Opening a document and writing one line, sending one text. Say that concrete version out loud or write it down in place of the
abstract one. Notice it's smaller. It carries less weight. Then do just that. Not the whole task, just that one piece. Set a two minute timer if it helps. When it's up, you can stop or keep going. Either way counts because the goal was starting, not finishing. If the pull to avoid comes back later, for the next step, do the same thing again. Shrink whatever's next down to something concrete before it has a chance to grow back into the big vague version. This won't make the task enjoyable and it won't make the worry disappear entirely. What it does is close the gap between noticing something and actually starting it. And that's usually the part that's been stuck. Until next time, I'm Clyde Lee Dennis and this has been 7 good minutes extra. This is Ashley Akinati from the Almost Amos podcast.
