Today I am starting Season 2 with telling you about my foreign languages experience and I have some tips for you to try on your own. Our Slovak lesson is about learning how to say, “I don’t understand” and “I understand a little bit”, plus a couple of more useful phrases for beginners.  The story at the end of this episode is about Michal’s ordinary day and it is for beginner levels.

Slovak lesson
1.     Rozumiem (I understand)
2.     Nerozumiem (I don’t understand)
3.     Rozumiete? (Do you understand? Formal/polite form)
4.     Rozumieš? (Do you understand? Informal/friendly form)
5.     Po slovensky. ([in] Slovak; usually only Slovak is used)
6.     Rozumiete po slovensky? (Do you understand Slovak? Formal)
7.     Rozumieš po slovensky? (Do you understand Slovak? Informal)
8.     Trochu (A little bit.)
9.     Čo je toto?- pointing at an object (What is this?)
10.  Čo to znamená? (What does it mean?)
11.  Ako sa to povie po slovensky? (How does one say it in Slovak?) 

Conversation
A: Dobrý deň. Kde je Hotel Forum? (Good day. Where is Hotel Forum?)
B: Prepáčte, nerozumiem. (I’m sorry, I don’t undersatnd.)
 A: Ach, vy ste cudzinec? (Ah, are you a foreigner?)
B: Nerozumiem. (I don’t understand.)
A: Rozumiete po slovensky? (Do you understand Slovak?)
B: Trochu. Učím sa po slovensky. (A little bit. I am learning Slovak.)
A: To je dobré. (That is good.)
B: Slovenčina je ťažká. (Slovak language is difficult.)
A: To je pravda. Treba sa učiť každý deň. (That is right. You must learn every day.)
B: Ja viem. Ja sa učím každý deň. (I know. I study every day.)
A: To je dobre. Veľa šťastia! (That’s good. Good luck!)
B: Ďakujem. (Thank you.)
A: Dovidenia! (Goodbye!)
B: Dovidenia! (Goodbye!)
