How Do You Support a Friend Who's Down - Wellbeing Wisdom Tiny Bites Podcast
About this episode
Have you ever been around someone who suffered a big loss? Maybe it was the loss of a job, a relationship or the loss of a loved one. Whatever it was, you can see that their own light is dimmer as they struggle to cope with a major change.
Maybe you don’t know what to say? Here’s a news flash – you don’t have to say anything, and if you do find words you want to share, they may or may not be able to process those words. In the wake of a major loss, helpless and hopeless are two common feelings.
When you’re there, just your physical presence is enough to support them. There are no perfect words to say to help them back to happiness, and there is no magic phrase that will take their pain away. Be there physically if you can, and if not, then check in often and maybe organize friends who can be there physically to stop in with food, offers to do the laundry, etc.
Loss happens – support is the best gift you can give when it does.
