How did the Middle East change the world in 2025?

Since Trump’s ceasefire, Israel’s army has killed nearly 400 Palestinians - including Hamas’ deputy military leader - and continues to occupy half of the strip. Israel has also rebutted Syria’s bids for a truce and refused to withdraw military from the occupied south where village raids are causing anger among locals. And in neighbouring Lebanon, the deadline for Hezbollah to disarm by the end of the year is rapidly approaching. But the group has refused, just as Israel has breached the terms of the ceasefire over 10,000 times. In 2025, Trump declared a “historic new dawn for the Middle East”: but with Israel warring nations on multiple fronts, and the region still scarred by proxy violence and sectarianism– was he right?
