1:01Legend, boy. Now there's a lot to live up to. I'd prefer if we got this dope. We find them on the street. He thinks like he seems like you know something. So he brought them in. Yeah. All right, guys, let me ask one me ask a question. OK. When that dude lined up to make that kick, what did you think was going to happen, man? I thought it was. I thought it was going to go in. I thought it was. Yeah. I would just too many years of Buff stuff. I was like, I don't know. But it was an amazing finish. Amazing finish. Where does that ring for you in just terms of the straight-up finishes, William? Whether that be the coach's prime error or as far back as you want to go. Well, man, I go back alone damn way sadly. But I'm trying to think some of the best endings that have happened. Well, you know, that one in 2024,

2:01where Jonathan Wester made that impossible catch in the end zone. And he adjusted to the ball like that. That was crazy. And I know there were some back in the day, you know, in the 90s and the 80s. We had things like that. But they'll stay fresh in your mind like this one. But it was a crazy. It was a crazy last minute and a half, you know. It's one of those ones where like within the last 90 seconds of the game, you got full elation of the scoring the touchdown. Like, oh my god, we're going to win. Then I was like telling everyone around us like, we got a chill. We got a chill. We still have to finish. We still have to finish. And then it feels like our hearts about to get ripped out. I think we, I'm not sure if we mentioned this last night, last night, but huge shout out to Cree Thomas. Game saving tackle. Yes. And so he deserves a lot of credit for his hustle on that play. And then, of course, they're lining up for the field goal. You have, you know, the emotions of that.

3:01And then the feeling after they block it. Like within 90 seconds of game time, we had every emotion. I think as I look back on the game, you know, people asked me, well, who's the hero of the game? There were so many, man. I don't even know where to start. But the moment of the game that year from now, I'm going to see and I got to tell you, I'm going to get my, OK, well, here comes our comes, boy. I'm going to get emotional about this, you know. Because my guy should have been there to see that. Yeah. He was. The way it was. The way the way that bootcarter, he didn't, he wasn't sure he blocked it. If you watch, he rolled over and he looked back, you know? And then he took and he flung that helmet as far as it could go. And ran it, found that, took and flung his. And for some reason that that just running down the field, joyful like that is the moment that's going to stick with me from this thing. Yeah. And not to pull at your heartstrings more, but I told the story last night on the game that, you know, people caught me on TV.

4:02And they said, oh, you were praying. You were looking up to the sky. I said, I was asking Adam, because I knew he was there. I was like, bro, we just need some help. Please give us, give us a hand here, Adam. We need you. And I fully believe he was there with them on that field last night. Well, that's funny, because I was walking the telecast moment in about five minutes for a kickoff. I'm like, did I just see that? I had to run it back. I'm like, son of bitch, well, that's a good sign we're going to win. But as they lined up for that kick, you know, the guy had missed right before, earlier in the game. And I was like, dude, it's an all-American man. I don't know if you're going to miss it again. It did just kind of inconceivable. Those kind of blocks happen, but they're kind of rare. And my first thought was that's the Travis Hunter play, man. This guy, both dudes, show up at the most critical moments and make those plays, like Travis and that one game,

5:06when he made a fumble right there, as the guy was going to the end zone. They're the kind of crazy things. And it was all desire. And let us just put together. And I let him, she said afterwards that, you know, my coach has been teaching me this old trick to be able to do that. I'd love to see what more of what that is. But this thing was just well coached all the way around. And I don't mean just in the play calls on us, but this team has been well coached all through fall camp. And it's been, you know, I spent the whole last week asking myself, did I miss something? Because you get nervous as the first game comes along. You're like, am I crazy? Well, because everything looks too good. I must be missing something, you know. Yeah. And real quick on the blocked kick, I was just rewatching the game seconds before we came on here. And on a missed kick early in the game, or maybe it was a made kick, I can't remember. But who wasn't out there on the block?

6:06It was either Ernest Campbell or Nate and Mitchell, number four, really, that position on the edge. So I don't know what it was that, you know, me and was on the line. They said, all right, let's lean on our best athlete here. Well, that's Adam Wisburn in everybody's ear. Little nudge here, you know. And I got to tell you, you know, I put this on one of the boards today that all the years, you know, I've been doing those podcasts with Adam and all. We talked about, I'm sure would be nice to see a run game. You know, see us dominate and blow somebody out. Cause I can't remember the last time I saw this, was probably that Nebraska game of 2001, that that kind of total domination. And I was just, I was just sort of thinking, Adam's up there watching the game with Coach Mac, reach it down, touch it, me on the head, says, this one's for you. Yeah, love that. And I mean, you started to mention it, but the trench play in this game on both sides of the ball

7:07from the golf course was a thing of beauty. I mean, it really felt like that's what Colorado football is supposed to be. Yeah. Yeah. Let's start on the offensive side of the ball. You think of the line. Very quick. You know, they interview Brink in a second half, right? And his frustration, you can see it was posing out of his pores, man. And the reporter said, well, what do you kind of do stuff to run and give you says, what the hell are you just running to write down the middle? They're running to write down our gut. Why don't we want us both to do? Guys are in the hole and they just run over. Yeah. Pretty great. What did you think of just what they had going on offensive line and what they did to open up those holes and really get that run game going? Well, I wouldn't surprise me. I mean, we've seen, you know, I don't know. It's funny you watch it in fall camp and sometimes the defense will win or sometimes the offense will win. You never really know what that means when you're playing against yourself, right? But they both stink. As it turned out, they're both damn good, right? And there was no question in my mind that,

8:09uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, Choncy couldn't and, and Jay von McFadden are the real damn table. Because and Dave on the fact that the end of spring, I, I was, I said he was not ready, right? And, and he made more progress from the end of spring ball to the beginning of this season than any player I can ever remember seeing. And he and, he and, he and Choncy are just animals. And I don't know if you call it caught that Choncy played defensive line last night too. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And so, you know, uh, and I love what they did to the tight ends and, and the tight end blocking last night was just phenomenal. I saw a cop. It's, uh, lineup is a fallback and just roll a dude up like a ball. Those are man. I watched it three times and Giggle every time I was like, man, it's ragged all day. Shout out, brick. Yeah. So, you know, it was like, you know, and what I love to is, Brett and Marion believes in his system. And so when the past game wasn't working, he'd freak out.

9:11He's like, all right, well, we'll just keep doing this other thing. And I thought to play at a game, um, was when he called that draw a third, three on the winning touch. And then, guess, and somebody asked him every season, well, they were, they were, they were, they were showing us a soft box. I didn't think they'd be in there to stop the run. And it was the right call, man. And, and, and the Katelyn Taylor just made a great play. And then it was actually, uh, if I remember Greg, I think it was, um, Fisher Fisher, uh, climates, who claps down the whole defensive line. And then he ran behind a big tight end. So it was just well called what executed, you know, both of those core nails or some professional that just had answers for everything, you know, and that won't happen every game. Well, maybe well, I hope, you know, but, um, it was, it was, I thought many times this, this summer that, uh, one of the best made it happen to us was, uh, let me just again, that job at Brown goes. Cause this was not, you know, and what a game called by Chris Marve and, and,

10:16and just that, I mean, and so much credit to him having those linebackers, ready coach pun, having that defensive line ready. I mean, so much, we spent a lot of time in this off season, worrying about the defensive line. And then you lose Ezra and obviously you lose Bal and Sama. And it was like, all right, like here's, you know, here's our worry point. And then they just go out there and those guys were just wrecking all. Well, and, and, um, so the lap first, you know, and Sama, Sama, and I'm really going to try it. Um, when she comes home, Sama, the last one. When he showed up in spring, he was way too big and he could play, you know, um, but he first caught my eye and spring game because he was immovable. And I'm like, hey, wait a minute. Maybe we got something here. And just like Chancie good, and he worked his ass off almost literally. And clearly dropped weight and was a different guy in camp. And he was blowing up dudes up, you know, and one time he blew up Chancie good. And I'm like, damn, this guy could play. And so, you know, he's not going to get stats. He's not going to make big play, but he's going to hold up two or three block,

11:19a couple of blockers and other guys were on, but, um, Santana Hopper was unblockable. And the two, the two guys who were just off the chain, man, like they let the dogs off was, um, uh, uh, uh, Toby and Nene and, um, Vermont, what else did that? And you know, Vermont lost, but everybody sees the three sack, but he also had three tackles for losses and five total tackles. I mean, that's a damn good day for an edge. And, and, and Toby and Nene, uh, had a couple of quarterback hits and then lester's first sack happened because Toby flushed the damn dude out of there. Um, yeah, and, and there, the fumble that the bootcarter recovered, go back and watch it again, man. Toby and Nene decapitated that dude. I mean, I can flop them and over in, man. I had to watch it three times to see when the ball came out. I think there's so many positive developments from a person, no perspective last night. Uh, like you had, you mentioned the guards earlier, William.

12:21And I think those two guys were super impressive, both of them making their first career starts, right? Right. The college level, neither of them gave up a pressure. Obviously neither of them gave up a sack. They were obviously moving folks in the run game. So you had a couple of really young guards kind of a merger. You had a tight end kind of break out for you in Charlie Williams. Like he, he operated as the starter yesterday with Zach Eckings. I don't know. I know. And he, he looked apart both in the run game and obviously in the past game as well, catching both of his targets. And obviously the biggest one in the game. You had an edge rusher breakout and Loma, Lister Jr. with this three sides. Like those are, those are three massive positions on this team that, you know, many people might have had questions about going into it, but those are immediately answered. We want. Well, obviously I, you know, I, I had question marks about our past roast because our offense is not an offense that you get a pass rose against. You know, because we're doing a lot of drop back and stand back there. So we didn't see a lot of that in spring. You know, but the, the sea Loma Lester come out like that and to have,

13:24to have him and Toby and any be so stout against the run. And you know, Loma Lester is one of those guys. Oh, he's too small. He's 230, you know, he's 6 to 230. He's not big enough to play the ass. You know, you don't want, you don't want to hold team full of guys like that. But if it do, it's got the heart, he can do it, you know. Sure. So, and then I watch his three, you go back and watch his three sacks. He, he just humiliates that offense tackle and it's not brute strength, man. It's handfighting. And, and, and, and he, he's got the quickness on that, on that first step. And if you keep the hands off and you got the quickness, get around and you watch him on that lap on one of those sacks and he just runs the circle, which is what we teach him, you know, run the circle around the backside of that dude and just took, took that quarterback down and that on, on the third sack that that Loma had, that tackle, he just froze. And he was like, you know what, a shit or go blind. He's like, and I swore to God, go back. He went like, yeah, hey, hello, Will, you say he didn't know, he didn't know

14:25whether to do what or what? A shit or go blind. You never heard of it. I'm happy to steal that one. I never heard that one before. I'm like, it's a southern thing. I think I like that with a lot. Yeah, I'm at a vote. I don't know what it means exactly. I heard that for a while. Yeah. He used to hear that down as well. When I coached in North Carolina, you know, I had, I coached outside of Winston Salem in a little town called Kernersville and we had every kind of, my right tackle was, was, was, my left tackle was 67, 300. He was recruited by everybody and his dad was an airline pilot and my right guard was 65, 300. He was recruited by everybody, but his dad was a good old boy from out in the country, right? And then just two very different guys. But Matthew was the right guard and Matthew was the kindest kid you ever met, but he had a hair trigger, man. And I'd be overworked with somebody else and I'd hear you son of a bitch. I'm a one-year ass. I got to get over there, man.

15:25And that has his dad has some of the funniest things that might have been one of his, you know, that's awesome. I love it. I love it. We've got much, much more to talk about. 18:29Really quick. There is one thing that I wanted to talk about really. Yeah, go for it. Did you say taco back? What happened? I caught it. What happened? What happened guys? That's really we really made another thing being shot the coach brim. We did also a great video. Scotty that could not have worked out any better. Crush it did work. Now, well, RC cooked on that. He did shot at RC great weekend for him. William, though, let's talk about Julian Lewis. And I mean, shoot 58 minutes of frankly bad football from him. He looked it looked like it was his first start. Yeah. What was your take on Julian's night last night? Well, you know, you go back to what I said about bootcarter, you know, and great players show up when it's needed, right? And Julian had a rough night doing my question. And I saw at least twice he got ran off the sideline and coach Marion would meet him right there.

19:33And you could read his letter saying it said, just calm down. Just calm down. And I got to think about it. Somebody mentioned it this morning and, you know, this is really his, you know, like last year when he started games, it wasn't his team. You know, everything was already down the drain. It really wasn't that much pressure on it. This was his team. And this is his home. And this is his favorite man, you know, so that's a lot to put on the shoulders of a young guy. And not to mention that the damn receivers dropped everything he put right in their chest. It seemed like too. But I don't know, you know, they kept talking to TV with the rain and humidity and the balls, they can oil that really played in order not. But what it looked like to me was he was a little too wound up and gone a little too far. You know, he meant I came to run at first one of it was Joe, Joe Williams or the other more to hit steps on the defender and he missed that one. But, you know, what I love was that Brandon Marion, he's like, okay, we're cool. I'm not going to panic on this, you know, I think we would have him last year with with the Shermer.

20:36And he said, okay, well, let's just run the ball on these guys and we'll keep working on it until time comes. You know, to use it and hit a few passes in there. DeAndre Moore showed up really nicely a few times. And then on that last on that last drive, one of the other things I would say to this, we had trouble up front at the center spot because. Kenny has trouble with the snaps and I don't know if that's wet ball or what and he played the first quarter and then Hunter came in and played the rest of the game until he got hurt. And then Kenny came back in and did a pretty good job going down the stretch, you know, so I think we had a couple of. And especially one drive, there was a couple of eyes, but they didn't never stop our run game. We stopped ourselves with a couple of bad snaps and things like that. So I think that's trouble for a young quarterback. But I think you're just going to get better. You're going to do better. You know, probably learn a lot from this game. Watch the film. I can't believe that's how he throws. You know, I think that everybody has a bad night and he'll come back and do something a lot better.

21:38I mean, I think the kids got talent. And we got the talent in the receiver room for him to exploit it. You know, a couple of things. One, I definitely think the ball played an issue. It was so humid out there. It was it had poured rain right before the game, obviously. You saw him in Doza with like a pound of chalk. And they're trying to, you know, I saw Mary now there running out trying to give Julian a towel to dry his hands off. So I think that part of the role. But the other thing, and I was going to bring this up. And just a girl just brought it up in the comments too. Julian was very clearly just sped up in everything that he was doing. And you could see it in his post game interview, which actually I thought he represented himself. Incredibly well in that interview. And actually had some banger quotes, but he was talking fast. You know, and it just feel it kind of felt like, you know, I've noticed this when you do like public speaking. And you're just trying to get into the process and get going. And all of a sudden you realize, oh man, I'm talking really fast right now.

22:40You know, golfers when they get under pressure. Sometimes your tempo gets a little too quick. And I think that's just where he was. Like he knew what to do. He loved the plan. He had it. We had everything going. And I just think he he wanted to move so quickly and make sure he is processing so fast that he just got himself. I even saw that from Bo Nix in the first game of the season last year for the Broncos. It just happens to a quarterback. Sometimes you get sped up. Yeah, and I think there's a lot. I this offense is still quarterback friendly because you're not asking him like last year. So drop back and read it entire secondary and figure out who's going where and try to find out who's going to be in the right place. You really have one or two reads, you know, and the other thing I loved is that what Mary gave him to kind of calm him down was about. Somebody somebody must have told a CEO coach that you're allowed to run a quick inside slant. I haven't seen it. I haven't seen it in 15 freaking years. I've written Mary brought it back right for four times. And I heard him say somebody said something or they're just reading off that safety.

23:43If he goes this way, he's throwing. If he doesn't, you know, so if you give him one read to a guy like Deandre Moore, that's an easy thing for a quarterback to do. And it's an easy pass. It builds up a little confidence as such. But I thought that was fantastic, you know, because once you get an inside slant goal and you really got to change the defense to stop it, you know, and they didn't want to change their defense. They kept coming out with that four man front, where are Dash and it, and finally they went on a five man front and that didn't work either. So yeah, I thought that, you know, it's almost better to for him to struggle and win because you learn more from your failures, okay? You know, and he could sit down with coach Mary and they could teach him from what he did last night. And I think it's fantastic. It's always great when you win against a decent team and parts of your game didn't work, you know. But I think the the offense wanted a run game and the defense were so incredibly strong,

24:46you know, that they could have held up to anything. You know, Bo Hewley and Jay von Miffaden and Leon Bell played all 74 plays or 72. And you know, it didn't miss a play and everybody's talking for the game, and you made it to have George Tech, you know, who was wore out the end of the game was them. Yeah, them. And our guys, our offensive line played every damn snap and they were still going strong, you know. So Andrew Swayze, I'm about to shout out to him too because his staff didn't held the job and I take some else. We went through the most physical camp that I can remember in years with no major injuries, you know. And I think that goes back to the strengthings in this thing, staff too. So I just think there's a lot to be excited about right now. I think I think Coach Prime is a smart coach and he learns from his mistakes, you know. And I think he's figured a few things out and he's got the right attitude. And this team believes in each other.

25:46You know, they really, you know, they really are a family. And some people may think this doesn't mean anything as BS, but if you've been on a team, you know, you know, and when you believe in each other, you can just do your job, you know, because I don't got to try to do his job too. I just do my own, but the other thing, and I'm just rambling here, but the other thing that really stuck out to me, we only had six penalties, man. And that's been a big damn problem the last three years. We, you know, six penalties. That's crazy for seeing him. So hope that sticks around. I think the point you bring up about the conditioning was especially impressive last night for a season opener where a lot of times in college football, we go and you see guys dealing with cramps and, you know, being able to not finish games for whatever reason. And I would have been very understandable, I think, in that setting last night. But that didn't happen, especially, you know, with those guys, those three or five starting off into line and playing the entire game. And you look at, yeah, you look at the final three drives for Colorado last night.

26:52A 15 play drive. 17 play drive. And the final drive in eight play 75 yard drive. And on that side, go ahead. No, you just play drive like 15 to play as we're runs. Feet is in control. There was a span where nine straight runs. And they knew where they knew where they put five guys up there. They brought safety's up there. They did everything and still ran it. One of the things I loved about these running backs is how many times I saw they get hit the line and they would drag three dudes for another five yards. And I'm not, and I'm not talking Anderson and Mike, well, it's only the big guys. The little dudes in a two for sure. I mean, all those running backs that got opportunities last night ran with the purpose of the physicality from the from the from the K-Lin Taylor to Richard Young and everybody in between. And I think the way Mary and also split up and kind of divvyed up the the the snap count

27:54for all those, you know, four or five running backs was really impressive to us, really balanced. And obviously they ended up rolling with the hot hand and Michael, who had a who had a hell of a game and how performance were really the second straight hurricane. And I just noticed on my on my rewatch that on the fourth and two around midfield where they ran the ball. They gave it to Joaquiel Smith. And I thought, what what a testament of how much trust Brennan Marion has in every one of these backs. Right. The guy he went to in that situation, not, you know, not give me the biggest guy or whatever. It's like he's running the ball well, given the rock. He's going to get across the line. Well, I've always thought it was a little bit overstated. You know, that big guy. I know going on line to big guy on a fourth down thing. It's really if the holes are there, you need a guy to see holes, you know, and I coached offensive line for a lot of years. The most frustrating damn thing to me was running backs running in the back of my offensive line. It's like, dude, six, seven, man, you couldn't miss it. You can't miss them. I mean, hell, run a back goes with, hey, want to get you guys to open holes. Hey, man, damn guys open their eyes. So if you can find those holes, you know,

29:00and that's what I like about Anderson, he's really got great vision. But, you know, maybe the most exciting run of the night, I don't know if you remember this, Joaquiel Smith got the ball going left and he got hit in the backfield to do it, right? And he did this little, I got to watch it again. His little spin and jump, little spin and jump over one dude and then ran all the way and got nine yards. I mean, like that, that he's going to do something to share. And it very close, but taking that all the way. He just needed one more block right there. And my guy just kind of got around the offensive line and who's going to throw the block. But I think it was Leon Bell. If he even just gets a hand on him and just slows down the lightest bit, he's out the gate. And there's a little chauncy good in on that play. He was down field. And he was ready to go put the hurt on a safety on that play. Yeah. I saw him come down field and actually take on a defensive back at one point. I was like, oh my god. And I'll be like, you know, if I saw a chauncy good and I'm

30:04playing safe, I'm going to fall down, fake in the injury. I'm going to quit the game. Well, and then on that fourth and two, when they like run it, you know, right around, you know, the tackle and you've got Javon McFadden kind of pulling around the tight end there. Like, do you see the corner just like kind of dive under him? Like he wanted to make that. I saw it. I saw it. And then there were so many times when our backs, you know, just if they had a half inch, it would have had a big gain. You know, like got somebody got a hand on their toe or something like that. But this, it doesn't surprise me to see this from this offensive line because the most dominant play I've ever seen from an offensive line, when it was from one of their coaches. And it was Andre Jeroad against Nebraska in 2001. And we ran, we ran a little outside, well, I call a belly play and he pulled and he and we were down in the North end zone, you know, where those seats are and where they keep Ralphie sometimes. And he got a hold of that guy on a five yard line.

31:07And he drove him all the way back through the end zone and he pinned them against that railing. You know the railing right there. It's kind of held him there, you know. And I thought, it's not a bitch. I never saw anything like that. And if I was that, if I was that dude, I'd have been like, it's going to crawl out over here. Yeah, I got to quit after that. That's kind of that's the kind of player that Andre Jeroad was and George Hagueman too, you know, that's what they're teaching these guys, you know. Yeah, we got to take our next break. And then, I want to ask William about what he saw from Chauncey last night as well and a lot more. Let's shout out our friends over at. What happened? What happened? Where's the hell? Imagine that William, Chanty Gooden obviously playing both sides of the ball, but I mean, to me, this is a player that when I we first saw him, you know, what Alamo ball practices are going back to, you know, camp last year, like how low he gets in the stands for how big he is and the power that he has coming out, like that was just different for any freshman for almost any offensive lineman really that that CU had up until this season, just one how impressive was the feet of him going both ways, playing both sides of the ball last night, and just what have you seen from him as an offensive lineman so far? Well, I mean, you know, I don't want to remember back in the spring, and I can't

35:19remember, I think I can't remember which defensive tackle it was, but he just rolled him up and drove him back, you know, backwards on the goal line, but I just think they remember when when Chanty committed to us and watching the film, and we've had him right in the film, or with it, it was most impressive offensive lineman film I had seen in a long time, and he played center and guard, and he just was beating kids up on me, and I said Adam is damn their child abuse when he's doing these guys, you know, and it was just so impressive and his technique was good in his aggressiveness, and you know, I from everything I understand he's a very nice kid, but he's the meanest offensive lineman I've seen at CU since Chris Myoli man, and that you know, Chris Myoli wasn't me, but he just plays with that sort of aggression, and just wants to knock everybody down, and I think he's got the kind of talent to be, I think he's still caring a little

36:19bit too much weight, but doesn't seem to affect his athleticism a bit, you know, I think he played 11 snaps on defense mostly in the goal line sort of situation, but I can't think of another guy to put in there, but you know, I'd like to get him on a scale, no, what the actual number is, him and Sam both, but he just got great, he was taught well in high school, he's been taught well at this level, and I think that there's no upper limit to his ability, and I think he's another under a hero. Yeah, I mean, he was amazing. Javon McFadden was amazing, I mean, you know, William used the word earlier, I can't remember who you were talking about, but he said heart, and I think that heart was the theme of last night's game for the whole thing, and it was something that unfortunately was very much lacking last season, we talked about it a lot, especially in some of those blowout words, just like, man, they just didn't, they just kind of lay down and let it happen,

37:22in this team, I mean, it couldn't have been more night and day, we talk about the pride and tradition of the Colorado Buffaloes, will not be entrusted to the timid of the week, there was an atimid or weak person on that field at any point last night, and it was really, really nice to see a team play that hard, that physical and that violent. Yeah, they were fierce, man, they were, they were fierce, and they were warriors, and you know, I had 10 years of maybe to bring more, and I've been in some pretty elite units, and was with CU, and they were really great, the one thing I've learned over the years is when you've got a great team, you bring in great people, and nobody wants to be the one to let it down, you know, it's not going to fail for me, I'm not going to be the one, so everybody puts it, you push each other to even greater heights, you know, and I was thinking this morning that, you know, Chelsea Gooden is like the poster child for this new big, bad, bullying buffs that we got, man, just this physical, you know, and,

38:24you know, there was all kinds of trash talked about, you know, one idiot said, we looked like a JV team, and this other fool said we were going to be all in 12, and murder us and kill us, and everything else, and the funny thing is, it was entirely the other way around, you know, somebody said there was somebody going to be there, we're going to, there was this guy said, George's text is going to have 50 carries, and run up 200 yards Russian, and somebody pulls back this morning said, somebody did, you're right, and that's why last night was so, I think impressive, obviously for many reasons, but like so many of the narratives that surrounded this football team, this office is entering a pivotal year for the coach for our era, we're flipped on their head yesterday, right? This team, this team is too small, well, they didn't look small, and in big spots last night, this team can't run the football, well they ran it 49 times very efficiently last night, they can't stop the run, well they stopped a damn good running bag in Justice Haynes, four, yeah four ridiculous, putting a Justice

39:33in the big 10 last year, average 122 yards a game on the ground to 60, on you know three point whatever yards per carry, like all those narratives having flipped on their head, and I think also two was exciting, so much more of me on the bone, particularly offensively, this team won a football game, saved the last drive with a non-existent passing game, with Danny Skidero being banged up and now playing most of the game with Camperi, clearly not being 100% with four drops, a quarter and a profile ball focus, and I think we all expect that passing game to round into form before too long. Well, you know one of the things about these two coordinators is they're in line, I love before the game, somebody interviewed Brandon Marion, I might have been a media day, and he said, they said how do you prepare for games that I will stalk the other coach, and I will know every play he's ever called, I will know every formation he's ever put out there, I will know everything about

40:35that person, and you saw that last night when he called that draw, he knew what was going to be there, you know, and the professionalism and the attention to detail of these two guys is just impressive, you know Chris Marvin, you know another guy we haven't talked about it, that was on fire last night, was a random fun, and everywhere man, they brought him on blitzes at just the right moments, you like dial that up, it was a nice thing in the backfield, yeah, you know, and his size with his athleticism, he's going to be a real weapon, you know, and it was also fun, you know, Cree and Boo just locked down their outside guys, you know, it's just crazy, I just thought everything about this, you know, now we got to clean up the special teams because it damn their kills, it was a frustrating game because on both sides of the line of scrims we beat their ass and we dominated them completely and entirely, and even they admit it, you know, and yet it was still

41:36a close game and we were behind until right at the end, you know, and the only touchdown they ever got was that kickoff return, and when I coach, I was always on teams where we split up the special team, like current prime does now, you know, and I always took the kickoff and punt coverage because that's all just one, you know, desire and discipline, right, and it's inexcusable to give up a long touchdown on the kickoff or punt coverage because everybody has got it, you know, job and you got it, you know, so they got to fix that, I don't know if you guys had the same feeling, but I got nervous every time our kicker came out, you know, I'm like, they're really familiar feeling, yeah, right, and then I went at the end of that extra point, I was like, I almost couldn't watch, and it's not getting there right up right into it. I didn't know. Yeah, he almost messed it, he almost hooked it. Yeah, I didn't know I was going to do it. You watch it, I was like, oh my god, yep. And then the block field goal right up the middle, that just cannot happen, man, you know,

42:40there's not a lot you can do about a bootcarter with his athleticism coming around a corner. They're not hell watch you could do, you know, but letting the guy come through the middle between in the A gap is just, it's a cardinal scene, it just can't happen, you know, so they got to clean that up. There's no way that Brennan Marion is going to allow this to continue this way in the passing game. Yeah, great tweet from him today, by the way. Someone said, I hope you're enjoying, you know, a day off of wrestling. He responded and said, 14 points, there's no rest for me. We got to get back to work. I wanted to touch on Scotty, we mentioned flipping the narratives. And I think it's an important lesson in this case, mostly for Georgia Tech fans, but I think for college football in general, about how you can change everything about your team in one off season now. That was never the case before. If you're a finesse team, you're probably going to be a finesse team. And there was one, you know, one guy who was on receipt street last night who said something along the lines of like Colorado fans are the most

43:42delusional fan base in the country. We beat you last year at your crib and you went three and nine. And in my response to them is, who's the delusional one now? Because you're talking about last year, like that matters. In college football in 2026, it does not matter who you were last year. And all of the things that we weren't that everyone just assumed we would be again, soft against the run, unable to run the ball on the offensive side, not violent, not physical. We were able to go out and target players who would play with heart, who would play with physicality, who would play with violence, and we were able to completely flip it. And that's a crazy thing about this era of college football. But it's a huge testament to the people that built this roster that they identified the things that we didn't want to be anymore and went out and found guys who could fix it. Yeah, and there's a couple things that come to mind on that. You know, one is talking about, you know, Coach Prime learns his lessons. And in this portal era, man, you know, you can change everything overnight. You know, before the portal, you know, you maybe change seven or eight guys, right? But this game to be, I knew we're going to win it just like in 2023.

44:47We're going to be TCU, right? Because it was the same damn narrative. They had a Heisman quarterback the year before, lost a bunch of guys to the NFL to transfer portal, and their damn fans like, well, and they were in the final game. God bless you. Hey, great, you know, you did a great job. You are not the same team this year. And I was looking at it and, you know, sunny dikes is a career seven-win guy. He's going to revert back to the norm, man. You know, he had that magical guy at quarterback and all those other guys. And you come back the next season and they're talking like they got their same team back, you know? X, you know, but it was just ridiculous. And it was ridiculous this time around too. Because, you know, I didn't, I don't ever had really much respect for TCU. But I respect your detect because they're a tough, bad ass program, you know? They run, they play football the way I want to play football, right? And last night was my old school back to the 50s football, man. Fullbacks and damn linebackers and running it up the middle and high formations

45:48in the whole nine yards. But, you know, Coach Prime learns, you know, and after that first season in 2023, he said, you know, we got to get guys with it. We got the character matters and we, and they went out and found guys to be around Shador and then Travis that next year. And they won, right? And then it's not like he forgot it last year. The thing people seem to just blows my mind. The dude had cancer, man. You know, internal organs rebuilt for Christ's sake. So, you know, he probably wasn't on the top of his game, okay? You know? But nobody gives him that break. He's Coach Prime, you know? He'd rather be on the TV or something, whatever than doing this. But what I've seen from him, you know, in three plus years now, number one, he loves those players, man. Yeah. And if you don't see it, if you don't see it, it's because you don't want to see it. You know?

46:48Amen. And he is committed to those guys. And it's not just his play, see, I get emotional about this stuff. But it's not just the players, but everybody around them too. Everybody on that staff or his people, you know? And so he brings those guys in and he went out again this year. And I'm sure you guys know a little bit some of the things I know about what happened last season. And it was coming apart by halftime in the first game, you know? Especially at the quarterback position. It was coming apart by halftime in the first game. And then the wheels, and then I don't know what happened after that first buy. But something went something happened at that first buy. We can, the wheels came to play. Yeah. You know? We talked about that a bit yesterday, Jay. Yeah. And I, I, you guys may know, I don't know what it was, but something happened because they were different thing. But then, yeah, they went out and they, he specifically, you know, he said every, this, this year I'm looking at everything I'm doing before he isn't okay. And, and I'm looking for toughness and looking for heart. I'm looking for guys who've been leaders and guys that don't complain.

47:49And what's, what stood out to me last night like, and the two guys come to mind. Toby and Annie comes from one of the best football programs in America, North North Dakota state, who are well-coached to that place or you don't play. And then he came, he said, I wanted to showcase my abilities on the highest level, you know? Sentana Hopper dominated at lane, you know, gotten to play off everything. And, and, and people said, well, you know, it's a low level. He wants to show people. And Lamont Lester had, well, like nine sacks last year in Mama's or, I might be wrong. He wanted to come, Coach Prime went looking for dudes with a chip on her shoulder, man, you know, you don't think I can play. All right, I'll show you, you know, because those kinds of guys will give you, you know, you used to say, ask for nine yards, don't give you 12, you know, because they got something to prove to themselves, to the world, well, not to themselves, because they know, you know. So you bring those kind of hungry dudes in, you know, and, you know, it's like dog,

48:51it's like wolves in the back, I guess, you know, just going to get crazy and get it. I think it's just going to get more and more, uh, while. Totally. One thing I wanted to mention too on this show today was to just add on to all that. This team has come so far from 2023, bro. It is crazy. Yeah. I went and looked at the PFF grades right before we started this show. PFF gave Colorado a 90.1 team pass blocking grade. That is elite. That is literally the, the color blew on PFF elite. They had a 84.5 team run blocking grade versus Georgia Tech as well. They only charted five pressures from Georgia Tech against Julian Lewis. And one of those as well, I think it's on the final drive. Tajem Koy gets around, uh, Leon Bell. And he hits Julian pretty hard. And I think Julian responds the next play with the touchdown pass to Charlie Williams. Yep. So I think everyone was playing with confidence and just again, the strides as team has made in so many areas running the ball, blocking, protecting, uh, perushing the passer, defending the run in three and four years is pretty phenomenal.

49:55And, and, and the, the PFF grades, I think the top three grades were off in the one. But one, I think it was Boa. He was, yeah, might have been Sean C. One of them at a 90, which is like, kind of caliber, you know. Yep. And, and, you know, there's, there, there was a few mentions during the week. About, um, Luzon Jordan, C. And lost their best lineman. Jordan, C. And is not a guy for this offense. He's a guy for a passing drop back offense. He's a guy that's going to pass protect for three or four seconds. A good job at it. Boa, he's a better guy for this offense. I'm not saying he's going to have a better career and be longer in NFL or whatever, but he's better suited for this offense, you know. Yeah. And that, you got to find the guys that fit in. And, and I don't know if you guys have stood next to Leon Bell. Yeah. Yeah. ginormous. Yeah. So, and, and the up, uh, who, who, oh, I can't remember. I'll talk to my, who he was competing with it. Got a little bit injured. Larry Larry Johnson. Yeah, I know. Yeah. Oh, I got back.

50:55Just, yes. Yeah. His whole different kind of size from, and I know, I see where I got the 1990 hat, you know, and, uh, you know, I was, I was part of that whole thing. But, uh, you know, what we thought was you'd back there as little now. It is crazy. Yeah. I mean, Jake, such a great point about how far this team has come. And, you know, I think the, the thing that I kept repeating this morning, uh, to people I was talking to is like, we looked like a real football program last night. 100% and it just in terms of the physicality, the size on, on, on the lines, the way that they won in situations like fourth and short. And just, it, it, just the way that they operated looked like a real football program. And, you know, there's things to improve on. And that's why I kept on saying throughout this offseason that this, this opener was the most important opener of the coach primera because you find a way to sneak out of that game with a win. And now you really have, you know, 10 days before your next game.

52:00You've got another week after that before you go into another big time environment. Like you, you kind of just bought yourself another three weeks to improve this football team. And take care of the little things and you're one and oh, you got a chance to be three and oh now. If you go out and, and do your thing against North Lester. And the first conference game is Baylor, isn't it? And didn't they lose tonight to some crap team? Let's make, so that, that's, you know what I'm saying? Baylor plays Auburn tomorrow. Okay. Okay. I'm, I'm all screwed up on it. Never mind. That's okay. But I think I'm like, that week to stop sniffing glue fills for you. Okay. I think on the, you know, this team looking like a serious football team like has a lot to do with these coordinators, right? You know, you look at who coach prim gave the game balls to after the game. It was Chris Marv. It was Brennan-Marine and it was new athletic director Fernando Lovel. I think three very appropriate picks. But, you know, Marv preached all offseason about this team,

53:01this defense specifically being good in situational football. And they were elite in situational football last night. Obviously late, I mean coach prim or whoever, you know, was calling those time out to late, obviously getting on those early to give your offensive chance to go down the field with, you know, less than two minutes left. Like all those type of things made last night feel very different from where things were in 2023. And even, you know, in 2024 and some respects. And they're under it. And go ahead with them. You know, there was no confusion on the sidelines. It was no correct. Yes. No confusion in the huddle, right? There was none of them like, what the hell am I supposed to do? Everybody was on key. One thing that really jumped out of me was like on one of those fourth-down decisions. Coach prim came out and put his arm around for Brennan-Marine. And he's talked in his air and then Brennan-Marine says, I'm back to him. And I'm pretty sure Brennan-Marine made a decision to go for it. Because I think coach prim was like, what you want to do? What you're thinking? Yeah, don't do your thing, man.

54:02You know, that is, you know, when you're an assistant coach and you've got to have coach of beliefs and that goes a great distance. But the other thing is that we had two NFL guys that were coordinators last year. And NFL guys, you know, you work with grown-ass men and making a lot of money in NFL. And it's a business, right? And so everybody shows up and does their damn job or they get a new job. Well, you can't treat it that way in college because that's not who these guys are yet. You know, they're kids, you know? Judges weren't freaking 18 years old, man. And so you had to teach them not only every skill or football, but you had to teach them how to handle situations and how to handle themselves. You know, when nobody's looking and all that kind of stuff. So I think having those two coordinators come in here, they both have a very solid plan on what they want to do. You know, somebody said last year, like the first three or four first three games, our defense looked like they had no talent wanted to do.

55:02You know, real? This defense knew what they wanted to do, man. They wanted to hit you in the mouth. Violence! Yeah. Yeah. So I was the only kind of concern I had coming out of camp was, you know, to a large extent, we only get what they let us see. You know, so a little concern, I was a little concerned, you know, maybe not showing us, but I think one of the great things is when you can win a game where you don't play that great. Now we played great in defensively, run game, offensive line, but there are, you know, special teams in the past game were dreadful, you know. We still won on the road, you know, against a good team. And I love how the narrative changes too. It's like before we gave it. Yeah. Georgia Tech, man, there's Tufts, man, there's there. They're gonna be playoffs, right? You know, they got a vote for the top 25. Tufts team never lived, man, they could take a win. They could get new rock in these ass, boys.

56:03Tufts sons of bitches, they were like, then you'd be like, yeah, you know, they weren't that good, they're free building. It's not that, they're going three and a half years right now. They're going to take a lot of Georgia, blow a lot of rain. They're free. We don't want Brent Keeter to be our coach anymore anyway. And not to mention just that on the road part, like road wins, power athletics are incredibly difficult, no matter who you are playing, and you'll never apologize for finding a way to win one of those. Yeah, and I think I think part of it has to do with the attitude of your coach or step two, because like, you know, I'd just think, I remember coach Maxine, and look, every stadium is our stadium, every stadium is a home game, and we go in there, we make it ours. Yeah, yeah, sir. Speaking of that, because last night when we did the show, I said I hadn't heard the highlights yet. Man, the crowd pops from the top. I told you, dude, that stadium on the stage. Roamute himself.

57:03Yeah, he just got muted. Am I back now? Yes, yeah, I saw it happen, and I wasn't touching anything. Anyways, the crowd pops on the Charlie Williams touchdown in the bootcarter block. I mean, that sounds like a home game, man. Oh my God. And Big Peck was talking all this smack about how they're selling out the stadium, and it's got nothing to do with Colorado, and Colorado only sold this many tickets. We took that place over for the last two minutes of that football game. I mean, when they came out, and it's unfortunate that they hit the big pass right away, but that defense champ was so loud throughout that stadium right before that. It was unreal. Yeah, the atmosphere last night was unbelievable. We are almost out of time. Let's get to final thoughts. William is definitely going to be back on the pod in the near future. So we're going to talk a lot more ball with our guy moving forward, and we'll start with you, William. What's your final takeaway on this game, or maybe something you want to see from a team next weekend against Weber State?

58:06Well, you know, something that again, talking about Coach Prime, because I've learned a lot of respect for him. One of the things that they mentioned on the broadcast was, he, they had three guys wearing 35, and one of them was ponder graves. And he took him, so he said, you're wearing 21. That's mine. Damn. Yeah. Best guy that ever played a position in the history of sports, says you're going to, you're going to wear my number in his hometown. That's a hell of a, you know, that's a hell of a thing. That's that's why people play hard for this guy, you know, because we'll be cares. And so I don't know. I think that they're, they're, these, these coordinators are going to continue to improve and make things happen. We're going to get guys back that are injured right now. And I think we're just going to roll forward. Probably, probably the meet just hunter. Probably one back that's that center of job.

59:06You know, but I would say it's not, it's not a done competition either because, you know, I don't know if you guys know too much about Sean Kenny, but that dude was an undefeated high school wrestler for three years. And it had a scholarship to wrestle a Penn State. And Penn State wrestling is the real damn thing, man. Yeah. Yeah. And that says he's a tough damn guy and he's an elderly. So they, they went out and that that reminds of one last thing. I'll shut my pie hole and get out of your face. I remember when they started going to get, you know, like they got bohewily from Georgia. And I'm like, this dude ain't going to be intimidated. Well, man, they went and they got ran and fought from, from Vanderbilt. This dude ain't going to be intimidated by the big 12, man. You know, and they went and found these guys, you know, all around the country. And they brought Cretanus, man, another name that that kid has crazy talent, you know. So they went looking for guys and they found their guys. I think it's going to be a magical thing, you know.

1:00:06So I'm not going to put it, I'm going to concrete. I'm excited. You know, we'll see what happens next week. I don't hope they don't take that for granted because, you know, ask Rutgers. Start it up. Yeah. I'm excited. I'm glad to be on here. I appreciate you guys bringing me on. It's a lot of fun. You know, next time we can get into the Xs and Oswald, we can draw diagrams. My final thought is, uh, uh, I'm so excited about the foundation of this football team. I mean, I feel like we've seen it the other way so many times or it's like, all right, well, the skill position and the high flying stuff and all that look great, but, you know, are we going to be able to get it done in the trenches? And to see this football team get it done in the trenches,

1:01:06uh, for 60 minutes. And us be able to come on here and say, okay, well, we need, you know, our five star quarterback and this elite group of receivers to get it figured out, that feels very attainable to me. Much more attainable than can we get these trenches to figure it out? So, you know, as much as there was sloppy moments last night, it's exciting to me that I think we have the hard part done. And now we just got to get the easy part and this theme can be really, really good. And you just reminded me of something too inadvertently, I don't know why they came to my mind, but um, this coach knows how to use a damn tight end brother. Tight end for a touchdown. They're trying to cover everything else and there he is. Exactly. Our starting tight end was out and another guy just stepped up. Yeah, Scotty or street. Receipt street, but the good version of it. We heard coach Prime say all off season, this was the best coaching staff he's ever had. Yeah, he raved about these coordinators all off season.

1:02:09When Brendan Mary and said this off season that this Colorado offensive line is better than the offensive line that he was with at Texas in 23. People thought that he was just talking. But last night that looked like an offensive line that could on indie giving Saturday potentially like hang with some SEC teams and SEC fronts. So I think, you know, these two coordinators coach Prime, I think we really got it right. And I think he hired both of them with week one in mind, knowing that week one was going to be such a pivotal game and opener and momentum builder for the rest of the season. I talked about Chris Marves experience against Breinke. Last eight quarters against Breinke, Chris Marves defenses. Six points allowed. Zero touchdowns. Zero touchdowns in eight quarters, two games against Breinke in Georgia Tech. Like that is, I think coach Prime thought about those two guys in particular like, yeah,

1:03:13like obviously this is different long term, but week one is going to be massive and they're going to give me us the best chance to win that game. And that was so evident last night to me. And it goes beyond the coordinators because some of these assistant coaches are first right, man. Josh Nidolson. Josh Nidolson, the hell of a coach, man, I knew those tech were going to be good. George Hale, oh man, that guy knows more about defensive football and I ever drink. Coach Pond. Defensive line. Yeah, which he has really, you know, youngest D line coach in the power for I believe. Yeah, yeah, doing a hell of a job. Great job. You know, shout out Johnny Madgain those backs ready to go to. Yeah, oh my goodness. You know, and I love, I've talked about it for years how, you know, this is the first time, you know, in over a decade, I think that we brought back our offensive line coaches. And people think that doesn't matter, right? But we all do things a little bit different, you know. I teach it this way. They teach it that way. So when you got your same offensive line coaches back, it made the big damn deal.

My final takeaway, a guy that, I mean, is a guy, a Choncy good, but a quick story before the game. And Scotty, you reminded me last night when we were talking. And then I tweeted it out today. But I put out that video of Choncy, you know, literally 90 minutes before the game. Like as soon as he got out there on the field, like hardly anyone in the stadium, he's doing just laps around the end zone on the Colorado side of the field. Just for 10, 15 minutes, bro, walking up and down that field. And it just feels straight so much about what we talked about today. What William said about the heart of this team. How just locked in these guys are and just ready to go, man, like he was like manifesting it on the

1:05:17field right there. Man, like he knew what he was about to go out there and do. He knew what he was capable of. He obviously everyone's already heard all the chatter and all the the slides that have been taken at this team. And just the ability to stay so locked in with all the circumstances, you know, the hostile environment, the humidity, like the struggles on offense for three quarters for 58 minutes, really. And just to sometimes that's just what football's all about is you just need one drive at the right time and it happened for the buffs last night. And here we are, man, it's going to be a hell of a ride this year. There's one more assistant coach that I want to make sure gets a shout out. And I know we could probably just do this all all the rest of the day. But it's Morgan Coat. Yes. No one is archmo who is a part of the strength in conditioning staff and yes, is a woman. And was absolutely targeted by a ordinary Colorado hater in the world when, you know, she went up there and spoke to the team. By the way, she was specifically picked out by coach Prime to be on this strength in

1:06:18conditioning staff. And everyone wanted to say, oh, a Colorado, look at this. You know, she can't motivate anyone. The Colorado's got a woman on their strength in conditioning staff. They've got no chance. And I love that she got the last laugh in this situation. And obviously there's more work to be done. But I just, that couldn't have been fun for her during that period right there. And her and her and Tessa Grossman goals, you know, I mean, they're, they're, they're accomplished freaking athletes, man. They're, they're accomplished freaking coaches. Get over yourself. Many the 1950s, dudes. Yeah. These women can coach, man, you know, and giving them motivational speech and everybody's game, you know, but I bet she motivates them in the damn weight room and she, and some guys, well, I bet she couldn't even power clean up. You don't have to be able to lift the damn weight that the dudes do. You think I can lift the weights that those guys I coach could do? No. But, you know, there was this, there's this one, any of this kind of podcast. I think you played defensive tackle, little, she even so wrapped up, so mad, bandit,

1:07:20that this woman gave this speech. And I was like, man, dude, you're all up in your feelings because a woman gave a motivational speech. You can see some help, man. You got it.
