And we're talking all about NFL free agency, because a lot of guys got paid. And there was one team that was really, really active on it started before the weekend with a major trade. The Las Vegas Raiders have been spending and spending and spending. They've set some records, most notably Tyler Linderbaum, who reached an agreement with the Raiders yesterday on a three year,

5:13$81 million deal and include $60 million guaranteed. By far and away, the biggest contract handed out to a center in the NFL. Of course, this on the heels of them trading away Max Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens for a couple of first round picks, including this year, which is pick number 14. But the Raiders led by Tyler Lindenbaum, our Tyler Linderbaum have set the standard of overspending in free agency potentially. And people may be looking back next off season and saying, yeah, you remember when they won the off season, it didn't result in many wins, but they do get the best center in the class. Maybe the best player available in free agency. If you listen to Pete Prisco, who talked about it last week. So the Raiders have improved their roster by spending an S load yesterday at the start of free agency. Yeah, as I said, you know what this means, guys? Absolutely nothing. And that's that's how we love the off season. A lot of hype, a lot of signings in some cases.

6:14Yeah, it'll pay off, but the truth of the matter is this, besides the Linderbaum signing, maybe you're saying that Kobe Dean and Kway Walker to help show up the defense. Most of these deals, they're going to be one of your deals, maybe two of your deals at best. And a year from now, we'll be having discussion about the team potentially moving on. And that's how it typically works in free agency. If the player, and this is what's interesting about Linderbaum is, he's one of those players that you would have said, why would any team want to let him go? You know, clearly the Ravens, you know, thought he was replaceable. Otherwise, they wouldn't let him get the free agency in the first place. You know, it's just one of those tough decisions you have to make. And they look at the center position. They say we want to invest and allocate our capital elsewhere. So it looks as if the Raiders want to be big spenders. They want to try to turn things around. They're trying to show up their offensive line by bringing in Linderbaum. So they give him a record setting deal for centers. And then you look at what they've done defensively. And the Kobe Dean, Kway Walker, Quitte Pay, you know, Malcolm Coons, who's, you know,

7:18they signed into a one year deal. He's kind of been an up and cover player in my mind. Eric Stokes, they reside to a three or $30 million deal. So the sort of thing you want to see, but, you know, ultimately when you trade away Max Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens, I just, you know, that's one of those moves that I understand his frustration with the team. I understand that, you know, maybe they felt like they, that bridge was burned. There's no way they can go back to it. But I don't know how this makes this team any better. And it feels like, you know, they're going to take Fernando Mendoza number one overall with this draft pick. I think that signals that see with the Linderbaum signing. They added in Jalen Naylor as well to help out the wide receiver spot. But the releasing of Gina Smith, every day, kind of coincides with this. It leads you to think they're going to take a quarterback with that first overall pick. But what kind of team is he going to be coming into, you know, probably still a team that's going to be one of the worst rosters in the league. It's going to be a pill battle for him. But yeah, there's, there's spent a ton of money, man.

8:20And I'm sure there's people in Vegas who love to see this. At least the teams trying to make this team better. They are making a move to try to make the team better. They, they also probably did the right thing by you know, moving on from Max Crosby, Max gave them some, some really good years. And, and giving him an opportunity to go somewhere and maybe see if he can win. Seems to make a ton of sense to me. The Linderbaum, I just, again, I can't get around thinking that how, how important centers are to your team for one. And then the fact that, the fact that I just don't, there are a few good, actually it's a good, good track with centers and linemen this year. But I just don't think I think the Ravens did not improve losing what the best,

9:20the best center in the league. I, you know, I don't, I don't know what the Ravens felt about it to not franchise tag them to not, I mean, they did offer them a nice amount. It just wasn't high enough. I, I just don't know, I don't know if this, I think this takes Baltimore's offensive line, a step back, a major step back, which what does that mean for Lamar Jackson and, and this year if they don't find a way to plug that gap. And for the Raiders, I, I, I don't know what to think because I don't have high expectations, expectations for them to begin with. So it's very difficult to say that losing Max Crosby, but gaining a center and lender bomb made this a better team. I just think it's just a wait and see approach with, with the Raiders. The story that came out, I think it was Diana Rossini who had it last week. And she was talking about, you know, after they released Geno Smith,

10:23that the Raiders would like to find a veteran quarterback that if they go to the Rada Fernandum and Doza, they don't want him to start right away. I don't, I don't get it. If that's, if that's the plan, if that's what, what they're trying to do, I don't get it. You've got the number one pick, I would assume we'd rather find out sooner rather than later. And if you're going to improve the offensive line by going out and signing the best center, the best offensive lineman of the free agency class and you give them that sort of contract, that seems to me like a Fernandum and Doza is going to be your pick at number one, then that would mean that I would want to start him right away and, and, and just go with that and see what Kubiak can do and just go through the growing pains, but at least get an answer one way or the other whether or not he really is the quarterback of the future or the franchise quarterback. And so when I saw the lender bomb signing, that just seemed more obvious to me that this is the direction they were going. And from the Baltimore standpoint, the reports are they offered him a $20 million deal. He passed.

11:27They offered him 22. He passed. He got a much bigger deal from the Raiders. But I guess it was the fact that Baltimore wanted a fourth year. And with this deal with the Raiders, it means he can get to another contract at 28. So I guess it was, I guess the sticking point was the number of years. But the fact that Baltimore and organization that usually makes the right moves from a personnel standpoint, didn't franchise him and ultimately decided we'll just take our chances of them leaving. I just wonder what else, what else is there? And I don't want to say overrated, but maybe they didn't see the value that clearly the Raiders did. I just, when an organization like that makes a decision to not retain a guy like that, when they usually always retain, you know, their players, whether Tamil tin and all these other great players that they've had over the past few years, I just makes me wonder what they didn't

12:29see in him that that the Raiders and some others did. They raised aside us, right? I mean, that's, that's it for a player that you ever think everyone looked at and said he's a great player. It makes a lot of sense and for them not to be able to work this out somehow. But I think it comes down to maybe a couple of things. The first would be, we talked about the contract situation, but you know, also just the allocation of your salary cap and where you're willing to spend a little bit more and where you're probably willing to not. And as tough as it is to say, you know, tackles in the offensive line are just valued at that much higher. Maybe even more so, you know, then, then even, you know, centering guards and even guards, maybe even more than the center sometimes. So if you're looking at it from that standpoint, it could have been a philosophical difference of how they want to go about spending some of those extra money that when they can. I think the other thing that you have to look at is Lamar Jackson is no spring chick. I mean, he's a veteran. This league, you know, when you look at the move that the Raiders are making, Quinn Cooper be actually bringing a center who's going to help from

13:31random endos with a lot of the calls they're making in the run game, pass protection, you know, it's, you know, a lot of the blitz schemes and things they're going to see. They've got a veteran guy in there taking it off his plate, allowing Fernando to get comfortable in there. And that was probably a huge priority for him to your point. If they are going to draft a number one overall, if they are going to plan right away, which everything signals they're going to, this is that sort of move where we want to make sure that we've got a guy in there who's communicating clearly to our offensive line. What their jobs are and helping to protect our quarterback. So he's not getting killed out there. You know, I think that's the other piece of this equation is, is both of us not in that position. Lamar can handle all of that now. He's played for a long time in this league for the Raiders. They see greater value in what that center can bring, especially a veteran center of one point. It's such a high level. So, you know, look, there might be some people who disagree with this, but I'm going to flat out say it. You know, sometimes your weakest offensive lineman is your center. And the reason why

14:35that is is because he is always getting some sort of help. It from either one of the guards or the way you could scheme things up to help him out. And that's one of those things where we always talk about tackles being on islands. One of the reasons why they're the most covered in values because they're on the edge. There's oftentimes where no matter what, like they're going to be one on one. And they've got to be able to go up against some of the most athletic freaks in the league that you've ever seen. And so, you know, as you cut it down, that center for the most part is going to at least get a hand, going to at least get some of the presence there from one of those guards helping to kind of protect him. Even in bear fronts, you know, he's subject to, you know, being bull rush. But for the most part, there's different ways of being able to protect the center from being overmatched, you know, schematically speaking, you know, there's ways of helping him out. So that might be another thing, too, going back to the philosophical discussion of who are you going to pay? How much are you going to pay him? You know, oftentimes,

15:35you're saying, now I want to pay the guys going to be the blind side from my quarterback going up against the toughest matchup. You know, maybe we have on the field and that tackle versus that edge rusher. So it could probably come down. I think that those two things, you know, one of them being just a difference between how they're where the Raiders around with both were Ravens trying to put it back spot. Again, I think both teams aren't in what will be considered to be a difficult position. I really do. I don't know that they definitively improved on either side. I think that Max Crosby is, that's a that's a critical loss. I think Tyler Lindenbaum is a critical loss and I don't know how to I really don't know how to monitor or weigh them. Which one would be the bigger loss? I'm I'm I just don't I don't know. But I do think that their additions improved each other's teams. I just don't was the singular piece of

16:41adding Max Crosby the difference for, you know, for Baltimore. I would say no. They need more is is losing Tyler Lindenbaum is that a bigger loss for, you know, for for Baltimore? And is that a bigger gain? It shores up it shores up this this this offensive line. It's a pretty decent offensive line in in in Las Vegas. But I'd again you're you're probably going to draft number one overall I mean, you're going to draft Mendoza over number one overall. I just don't know. I don't know. I don't have high expectations for the Raiders. So I fill is though I feel is though until we see more see this group that they've put together. Which is an impressive group of three agents that they've put together. I you know, I don't I just don't know. But I think the Ravens I we may see a new Ravens. I do say

17:44that. I will say that I'm I'm filling is though we're going to see a different type of Ravens team this year. And and it's not going to be in my estimation trending in the right direction. So they they were I think was their lowest sack total in 15 years. They couldn't get to the quarterback last year. And I think of all the edge rushers, you know, whoever led them would had four and a half sacks. They just they couldn't generate any pressure on the quarterback last year. And then all the injuries as well too on defense which didn't help. So I look at it and I go, you definitely improved that side of the ball. You've taken a hit by, you know, deciding to not retain lender bomb when you could have easily given him the franchise tag, although the salary cap numbers and all that that you would, you know, want to look at. But I just to me, if we're going to decide between who made the right decision and who didn't hear the Ravens front offices earned the benefit of the doubt. I know that spy tech, there's a lot of people that are really excited about about spy tech and everything that's going

18:48on there. It's also the same organization that hired Pete Carroll and traded for Geno Smith. They gave up a draft capital and I think $58 million to do so. And then he was gone. The Chip Kelly Fiasco, all the things that we've seen, a lot of that's on spy tech as well too. So I look at it and I go, if Baltimore is is willing to part and add Max Crosby, clearly, I'm going to side with that's the organization that's got the reputation for making good moves. And it's a remain to be seen with the Raiders. That's a way, I'm John spy tech or is it on Tom Brady? I don't know. That's the thing. I don't know what Brady's involvement is there. If you listen to Jeremy Fowler, you know, Brady just didn't want to trade Max Crosby to the Patriots because he didn't want to give Raible Max Crosby. Like that's, so I don't know how involved he is with the decision making. I would assume he's got got a lot of saying it, but spy tech is the guy who's getting all the credit, you know,

19:50based on yesterday's signings. Just a lot of good signings. And they and it should improve their team. It really should. But this Ravens rate, the weighties decisions have gone down with the Ravens. I'm just very skeptical. Skeptical of what where they're where they're at. How do you feel that void? And I'm certain they probably have a plan. And that's why they approached it the way that they did instead of just tagging him. But because at the end of the day, I mean, if they tag him, the idea of the Raiders overspending for him, do you guys think that they would have took the tag off of them? Do you think that they would have matched the tag? Well, it was the exclusive tag that they couldn't they couldn't. Yeah. So if you put it. So so they just did they not want to pay him? Could they not pay him? How do you undervalue your center if he's a one of one center? If you're if your offensive line is now not short up, but you and for what it's worth,

20:54I mean, Max Crosby is a one of one talent. But one pass rusher does not heal an entire it doesn't cure an entire defense. And a center can be a definite more of a catalyst. An elite center can shore up an offensive line more than an edge can shore up a defensive line. In fact, I wouldn't I would say you have to have a tackle on the defensive side or a nose, a zero technique that can actually give you a point that is more important than anybody else on that defensive front. Unless you have a point guy that can set that point and give the other guys the opportunity to fit into their gaps. I don't know how effective an edge is. Well, so I just feel like there's obviously this schematically going back to the initial discussion. I'll be the exact opposite for me. You know, edges will change so much of what you do. The things you hate,

21:54chips, nudges, you know, all those things are put into the playbook. All those things change them. The passing concepts you're going to use because you need to give that tackle help. You know, how much three step game you're doing, how are you even marrying up your move the pocket and screens and play action. Everything else will be very like very cognizant of, are we faking to that guy? Are we faking away from it for faking away from them? Does the back side have help to give extra time on a long developing play? There's just so many things that schematically change with, you know, a very, you know, top-level edge rusher. You know, again, looking back at the weaknesses of an offensive line. And if a team wants to run a bear front, the entire game, okay, so be it. There's teams who will do that from time to time. Obviously, but around the 85 bears and everything they used to run. But that kind of had its time and its phase. But that's a way of getting one-on-one matchups. You know, that way you can exploit some of those weaknesses in particular

22:55a center. But the reality is that, you know, how it's time and now it's not there anymore because everyone's got an answer to it. You know, usually you're going to try to run some sort of outside zone play, some, some teams like running gap scheme against it, that can kind of gash it. And then in the passing game, there's only so much you can do when you're running that sort of front. So, there's only so many coverage as you can play in behind. So, I tend to look at the exact opposite way. I was going to ask you about this, like the Ravens draft at 14 could, and I want to try to pronounce his name, Ioni, the interior offensive line at a Penn State. Could he play a center? Because here's the other thing is too, people tend to think that the center's always make all the calls. Sometimes it's the guard. And we've seen it oftentimes too in silent counts. Who's the guy actually signaling to snap the football? You know, the center's going to pop his head on all that, but it's actually the guard that triggers it. So, if you have experienced guards around that center, even if it's a young center, you know, he's still able to, you know,

23:56operate and do some of the things he does. And again, we talked about both where you've got Lamar. Lamar is going to make all the calls. You know, he's going to walk up the line, say what he's going to say, and everyone's going to fall. So, but could that, could that guy play center? You know, it was he good enough, you think interiorly because he's if he's if he's there 14, I know he's one of the top prospects. You know, could he be a guy that they take it 14? That's kind of that no man's land of like where you end up taking a guy. You're probably not getting a top edge guy or top, you know, cornerback. What have you? So, I think we're the Ravens are thinking with where we're sitting the draft. Take Max Crosby. He'll make a difference on the defense. We can go fill in that void with drafting a great player at Penn State to go play center. Vega can play. I don't know if he's a center. I have no idea, but I still think that you got to double it. If you can single block of a legit anchor tackle single block, then your defenses and trouble. You've always got to that guard always has to be checking for

24:59that that that tackle that one tackle that can anchor it. Whether they're the strong side or you put them on the weak side. Like like for instance, Chris Jones is a great example. You're not going if you try to block on what one guy he's going to get through there and he's going to impact your gang whether it's a run or pass. You generally have to double. So when you're talking about getting those one on one matchups on the outside, those one on one matchups come because you have to use two guys to block that that three technique on the inside. Well, that's not necessarily true. Like a lot of what teams are doing now, you know, they put three to one side and then one all were isolated with the other. That stresses the protection because it forces that like, let's say for example, there's one guy with the left bowl and then all three are to the guard and they'll center guard tack on the right side. What they end up doing because they're going to do the three man game on that side. They're basically saying to the protection, you've got to pull that left guard over. Like he's got to slide to the right and you

26:02have to declare because you don't want one on one's all on that side. So usually typically, unless they're going to divide the line like that, which obviously leads you susceptible for any sort of backer if they're going to either blitz or if they're going to try to, you know, key off of the back. You're going to have wide open rushing lanes. So typically, like that's a way of kind of defining and dividing the protection up and that's not even playing a bear front. You know, that's not even putting five guys across the line. So again, I think we get a full soft go debates about schema one. I just look at say it's pretty simple as this. You pay your edge rushers. You pay your tackles. There's not many teams paying centers and the readers decided to do so and we'll see how it works out. But when you get a good center, you got to pay down that bad bulgar hot. Oh, trust me. I played with Alex Mack. Alex Mack was phenomenal. Hank Frailey played a long time. I'm saying it, you know, Joe Thomas, though, is very early. First foul Hall Finner. You know, he got the bag. Seattle decided a la what the Ravens did with Tyler Linderbaum. We're not going to franchise him. We're going to let him go test the open market. He does and he gets gov it up by the chiefs who we were talking about this a little bit yesterday. It's been a long ass time since they've had a thousand yard rusher 2017 was the last time the chief said a thousand yard back in that offense. And so Patrick Rome's coming off the injury gets a little bit of help in the backfield and then the return of Travis Kelsey to that offense. I mean, I think the first thing that hits me is I've seen a lot of mock drafts the drafting of Jeremiah Love. This probably puts an end to that that speculation or that thought a lot of people were kind of tantalized by the idea of you know one of those dynamic rushers that can catch the football out of the backfield run the

34:23football extremely well helping out patch of a home's taking some pressure off of him. What they do in a different way they get a guy in Kenneth Walker is capable of doing that and proven at the NFL level. So they're probably going in a different direction there though but it will be fun to see if you know the Kansas chiefs can can find more balance in a rushing attack and it feels like a lot of news has been coming out of late. Obviously Kelsey coming back for what is to be I believe what is 14 season or 15 season whatever it's been for him now. And so it feels like they're trying to make another one of this and maybe doing so with a little bit a different philosophy offensively speaking to so I'll be curious to see you know how exactly this changes the offense what it looks like within this offense but you know this is the risk that you take of the CLC Hawks you know you win a Super Bowl everyone wants to be paid they've got that ring now and they're looking for greener pastures and Kenneth Walker is probably saying himself like hey guys I'm joining a coach and a quarterback who I feel like have a shot of getting to one so maybe

35:26I'll see you again there next year but either way you know you got to feel good if you're Kenneth Walker kind of getting the deal that you were hoping for after securing that ring. If I'm Kansas City the only concern I have is when is Patrick my home is going to be healthy enough to play and can you make it it does he does he play this season and when does that happen and can we stay competitive long enough to do so I think if you add an elite running back I wouldn't be afraid to say that Kenneth Walker I mean after establishing being a MVP of the Super Bowl that he it shouldn't be talked about in elite fashion I mean they did an excellent job him and what's other what's the other back that got sharpening sharpening sharpening sharpening now I think he did an excellent they did an excellent job and and so by adding that level of a caliber of running back maybe maybe it does indicate or signify that they are going to try to establish a run

36:29and and so but but make no mistake about it no Patrick my homes I think it's a very difficult proposition in a steadily improving AFC West and I don't know what the Raiders are going to be like I said but I do believe that the Denver Broncos are a quarterback shy of potentially going to the Super Bowl and it's it's it's it's I don't want to say it now we're never here for the Chargers but you'd have to assume Justin Herbert we don't talk a lot about Justin Herbert because we gave all of the pressure to you know to Alan and to Jackson on on the northern side of things but shouldn't we start to have the same type of conversations about Justin Herbert if he doesn't take a definitive step forward this season let me research him a little bit I'll send you guys over what I got I feel like that's on I feel like that is on the dossier of like can he finally

37:36this is the year to say can Justin Herbert finally truly turn the corner and lead his team further than what they they've done since he's been there so I think it's going to be a difficult it's going to be a difficult year for Kansas City and I think it's going to be because the Chargers are going to be good in my estimation and I think that the Broncos are going to be good and the Broncos defense is is pretty sick I don't know what the Chargers are going to do with with their defense it's pretty decent but you know obviously they could could be better and they lost a pass rusher and a Daufeo way he he went to Washington so it'd be interesting to see how they feel the gaps on their defense side of the ball this off season I kind of feel like the Broncos are one of those teams that if you look at their record last year 14 and three you're going man they're they're going to be good really good and then you go back and look at how many tight games they won how many miraculous you know games they're able to pull out it reminds me a little bit of the Minnesota

38:38Vikings that year two or they were a 13 and four I believe it was in similar fashion we want a lot of one-score tight games down the stretch and then reverted back to the mean the following year where that kind of levels out so I don't know I'm not saying that the Broncos won't be competitive or in the playoff hunt I just I feel like it it could be a different season for them I'm not sure they're going to be getting the number one seed in the AFC next year but definitely still talented enough to be in playoff contention I just I don't know I those those tight games those miraculous wins you kind of look ahead and go all right like how how many of those do you actually expect to win year and year out they're the AFC version of the Bears basically like that's the those two teams this past year yeah the defense is much better than your bears defense bro that is when you say you're you're trying to mean your Brady what do you mean you Jonas my bears look I like a lot of the people at the Bears don't you be wrong Jonas grew up rooting for them oh look man you know I've got family no meant to the equation because you wanted to make

41:44the groove then they got a chance obviously because it's Patrick my homes but I don't I don't trust that this defense is going to continue to be what it has been in years past I'm going to have to see it and I don't have any real reason to believe other than aging and and what I saw this year where they they didn't come through on some of the the games that that they generally may have come through on other other years past I don't know can I give you guys a nox lock uh oh because uh Brady had mentioned Jeremiah loved to Kansas City you know with a top 10 pick and now that they signed Kenneth Walker you know maybe that's out the window I think Jeremiah love will be gone before they pick I think maybe maybe I was gonna say this quickly December 14th when the injury occurred September 9th is I believe the opening for the 2026 season is that right
