Hour 2 - Callers Check In, Niners Win, Rodgers Gets Angry, Volpe Slams It

So of course, that's where our thoughts are today more than anywhere else. So finally, we get a look at the jets and giants this weekend. I am really, really all in on at least both these games with these teams. Now, I can't be all in on the jets for the 2026 season can't do that.

1:00But I am all in on the giants of the 2026 season. I am buying it. I am taking the bait. I am over rating them probably to a point where I'm going to look foolish. But because we have gone through what we've gone through with these teams, I'm going to take this time where everything is perfect because they haven't played a game and enjoy it because if we're sitting at Halloween again with both of these teams done for like they have been the last number of years outside of the one year when Brian, Dave, on Daniel Jones and say, Juan Barclay went to the postseason beat the Vikings and the playoffs and all of that. I mean, I'm not going to be able to take I just I am not going to be able to take two NFL teams in the same town again, being out of it in October. And it's just not going to happen. I think the giants are going to be in the mix for a wild card and even the division, the entire year long. And I just really, really hope that the jets beat the Titans this week because of all the narrative around how Rob Salas, some sort of genius that the jets just, you know, turned,

2:02you know, the jets gave me lobotomy and then he got his brain back in San Francisco. And now he's going to be coach of the year in Tennessee. It's just so stupid. So, uh, finally, after months and months and months of talking about it, we'll get our eyes on these teams and I can't wait for the fire Frank right calls after week one that we have to take here and then boomers have to respond to that. Oh, that's not your nightmare. It's just a couple days away. That will not be the case. I can guarantee you that. The other thing too is that the giants, you know, you look at their first six games, you know, they, they could be if they were four and two after six, we'd be giddy. You take a look at the jets, however, they have to go to Green Bay to, they go home against Green Bay. That's our home opener. And then at the Troy at Chicago after Tennessee. Yeah, got to win this one. So they have to win this one. And I'm sure Tennessee is saying the same thing about having to get off to a good start at home with the new coaching staff. And the one they all saved the four teams that we just watched play the first two games, you know, those teams have all been, you know, they're solid.

3:04They all have the same coaches. There's not a lot of change over same kind of quarterbacks. I wouldn't say it was very pretty, but with the jets and the giants, you have new coaches, Colin plays, different players. I mean, there's been a lot of change over for both of these teams. So it'd be interesting to see just like it was these first two games, what these games end up looking like. Are they glorified preseason games where the guys really struggle? And in the fourth quarter, you know, you've got to be mentally tough. You've got to be ready to rock and roll. And I think one thing that we've seen about John Harbock, and I don't know what, I'm sure Brian John Heimers doing things down there in Dallas as well, but John Harbock supposedly got this team in tip top shape. So when it comes to the fourth quarter, they're not dragon. And if that's the case, then that will be something that will be significantly different than the teams that we've seen in the last few years. Let's go to Brian and Manila Pan, what's going on, Brian? Morty Thomas, how are you? I'm so my daughter yesterday found a thing called Relay for America.

4:06It's a flag relay that started up in Boston. There's 25 segments for 25 years. Each segment's 9.11 miles. And my daughter and I are right now on the corner of 65th and 5th, waiting for the relay to come here so we could join it for the last five and a half miles down to the World's Race Center. That's awesome. What time did they leave Boston or have they left Boston yet or now? Oh, yeah, they left Boston like two or three days ago. They just crossed over the third avenue bridge in Harlem. We're tracking it online. I think there's like 30 people running it right now that are running the full 9.11. And then I got a 16 or 17 of that kind of joining it along the way here in New York. And it's way to the World's Race Center by 830. And why are you doing this? So I took the pass into the World's Race Center that morning. I was not in the building when the first plane hit. I was already out of the building, but I was there that day. And I had to actually just make it to the World's Race Center. I was almost delayed a little bit.

5:07I missed my train. My next train probably would have been there at that morning. My wife was over at 10th Plaza on the 55th floor pregnant with said daughter that I'm running with right now. So she had to walk down 55 points of stairs. We had to find each other somehow get back to New Jersey. I remember getting back to New Jersey looking in the mirror. I was sunburned for the day with so beautiful outside. It was something that I'll never forget. And we will never forget. And I'm sure that might hit remember forever as well. And the hope is to try to get the flags there by about 846 this morning. Is that right? I would think so. Yeah, you guys move it up. It's called Relays for America. And it started, I guess it started in Boston a couple days ago. And it's on its way here right now. Two American flags I understand, right? I believe so. Yep. And wow, 25 legs of 9.11 miles, obviously distinction there and retracing the basically flights 11 and 175.

6:07Yep. There you go. Ryan, great stuff, man. Thank you, Brian. Thanks for the call. It's good luck today, man. Good time to mention this as well. We do the reads for the rock. The sister club, baiting hollow is going to be the final destination on Sunday for the 15th annual FDNY 343 ride. It's a 501 organization that would be gone in 2011 by firefighters from engine 50, latter 19 in battalion 26 in the South Bronx. The yearly event honors the memory of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th. Since the inception, the organization has raised over 2.6 million for military veteran organizations. So the ride is going to start at ground zero. It's going to end at Bating Hollow. And you can go, it's open to the public. And to at Bating Hollow, they're going to receive the cyclists as they complete almost 100 miles on bicycles, begin at ground zero at 7 a.m. and the doors over to Bating Hollow to welcome them in at 3.30.

7:09So really, really special things going on out there. And yesterday, actually, on the way home, I got stopped by a police escort of many cyclists who were riding. I saw Boston on their shirts and it looked like firefighter stuff. And it was about a thousand cyclists that came through and there was a police escort. So I was trying to look it up. I couldn't find what it was, but it was another one of those things. It's just a reminder of how many people get involved this time of year for special things. Well, this is the triumph that comes out of the tragedy. That's what all of this is. It really is people are, you know, they basically push themselves because they feel like they've been inspired by it. And that's like I said, the good thing that came out of this. Josh and Smith Down wants to talk some football with us. Good morning, Josh. What's happened to him, in? Good morning, actually, before my football point, one station point. So I actually lost my dad in 9.11. He worked on a 90 second floor in the North Tower.

8:09He was an employee going to work that day. I was eight when it happened. And a couple of years later, I worked up the courage to call the station. And I remember my voice, shaky. I was talking about how sports in the station were a welcome distraction. And so all these years later, I'm now in 33. I have two kids of my own. You guys are still welcome distraction. I was looking forward to joining in today as I am every day. And so I just wanted to thank you for everything you guys do. Josh, that is, that's great to hear. So sorry to hear about your dad. I'm sure you're thinking about him all day today. Yeah, thank you guys again. My football point, though, after watching last night, I think we can all agree that the four teams that are played so far are pretty great teams. Teams that are expected to go pretty far in the season into the playoffs. And I think we can all agree that none of them look to be on top of their game. Maybe you could say that if Niners' offense was clicking a little bit last night, but I think that these coaches are too scared that these guys get hurt in preseason. And instead, we get to use first two, three weeks of preseason football on the regular season. And instead, they're like wasting these two, three games. So the Rams shouldn't have looked the way they did yesterday. If it's after they played a little bit, I don't think you were looking nearly as bad as he did.

9:11Yeah, it also could have something to do with the travel for them. I was reading about whether or not there were a lot of comments after the game about the way that the Rams won about this. And they're really weren't, they weren't using it as an excuse. No football team, no football coach wants to use anything like that as an excuse. But then you start reading about some of these sports science people. Yeah. And there have been many that came out and said that what the Rams did was ridiculous. Well, they had their own sports science people and they worked on it for two years allegedly. And this is what they came up with. They said to stay on West Coast time. That's the best way to do it. So it's one of these things though that, yes, it'd be a weird man. Travel on 16 and a half hours in a plane, landing, getting to a press conference, trying to get some sleep. You're trying to sleep what everybody else in the country is awake. And then you're trying to be awake on your own time and your plan of football game at 1030 in the morning, local time. Yeah. I mean, I also think that how week two looks is something to think about as well.

10:15Because some of the things that were written from a Rams perspective was they were willing to sacrifice the sleep and all of that stuff to be better off in the long term as opposed to being jet lagged for weeks, two and three and not getting their crap together. So we'll see. I mean, if the 49ers end up losing four straight games and are never right again and then the Rams go on to win four straight, then we'll go back and say, well, maybe what the Rams did was great and then Australia. You know, you are actually right because I've read a number of articles yesterday from people who have done the trip a lot going from say New York to Australia or LA to Australia. And a number of those people said the problem isn't really when you get to Australia. It's when you get home. And so maybe that's what the Rams are trying to limit the negative effect coming back here and getting ready to play the next 16 games. Of course, the Giants week two Aaron Donald didn't make the trip. And here are the Rams. They'll be a little bit more fresh, maybe.

11:17Then the Niners because they have to shake off the jet lag. I have no idea. I mean, it's tough. I'm sure there's some people yesterday and the Rams have felt great. Yeah, I got it. I got to tell you after when's the night football? Thursday night football, Yankee baseball. I kind of feel like I have a little bit of jet lag going into a football Friday. Okay. I mean, like, you know, it wasn't like we got a lot of sleep this week. No, I know. I understand. I mean, it's, and I lost it at least. I would say, would you conservatively say 45 minutes looking for Doug Wells's golf ball? At least. At least. I did, I threw that mouth tape on last night. I've been trying my best to get this better sleep, you know, in the hours that I do sleep. Mouth tape? Yeah, yeah. Tapem, yeah, mouth tape. So I've, I've drinking this cortisol cocktail. Oh, here we go. Before bed. Got that magnesium. Yeah. So I got that going on.

12:17And then I, uh, mouth tape. Is it then I tape? No, no, no, it's, it's just tape. I don't even know. It just goes on your lips and then, uh, make you breathe through your nose a little bit. Looks like a bandaid. Yeah. It's a little like a large bandaid, I guess. It's got a little hole in the middle of it, just in case. And it, and it forces you to breathe through your nose as opposed to mouth open and all that stuff. And I got to say so far so good. Not so bad. Really? Yeah. I got to be honest with you. I'm telling you, I did, like, so let's say I got five. Five hours last night. Those five hours straight through. Nice. mouth tape. Court is all cocktail. Little hole in it. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, if you, if it keeps you, it keeps your lips together. Yeah. It's like that old thing that Jerry Rice put on his nose. No. No. Remember that thing that Jerry Rice just put on his nose?

13:18No, it's totally different. Breathe strip. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Breathe right. Okay. Breathe right. So this is, I know, but it's kind of, this is a slim or material or bandaid material. It's like a bandaid material, I'd say. Yeah. Those breathe right things are totally different. I've tried a bunch of stuff. So I've double sided tape then. No, not double sided, no. No. No, no, no. I called it up together. No, you just put it on the ounce bar. Why? For that. And you can't talk at all. No, why would I want to? You want to sleep, you know? True. I'm not trying to talk to anybody. Yeah, I also tried the nose magnets, you know, open up the nose. That didn't really work for me. Nose magnets. I had the nose magnets. Never heard about nose magnets. Well, I told you about them at the time. Yeah, but I don't. You know, I don't remember that. Yeah, they didn't really work. And then those, those pills, those animal liver pills, that was a, that was a scam. I told you about those too. Yeah, you did.

14:18I was eating like, like antelope. I mean, I mean, I think I know what you should try. If you really want to know. Pep ties? No. Well, Pep ties, yeah, I guess so. I mean, looking at how everybody else looks like. But I've never seen Sean Mirage so happy in my life. I mean, I think he's walking around with Bluetooth in his pocket. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But a fact. So I'm thinking that maybe that's the patty should go better. Soundproof filter rooms. What I've done with it. If I'll be screaming and banging and having better facts. Yeah. And then you've got the cheese and you're grading the cheese on his head. Look at the owls now. Great. I was going to say, yeah. I was going to one of those battery operated cheese graders. 20:29nether on their way home. Here was Purdy. We did the right thing and it worked out. A week early, everyone obviously heard about it. And I think when we jogged out there today and stuff, we definitely fell the love from all the Australians that were pulling for us and stuff. So I think it was cool that we came out here. Now in terms of the Rams, here's Sean McVeigh. It's a bad night or bad morning. He goes, that's it. Sometimes sports can humble you and today was one of those days I make no excuses. And you know, whether you want to say it's about travel or whatever, we just weren't good enough in that window. And any way, shape or form, coaching, playing, games. Sounded refreshed. There were some coaches that were on the jets staff that were from Mike Veribull's Tennessee staff. And this and members, she was reporting a lot on the jets. Oh, yeah. And negatively. Yes. A lot of it was negatively. And he was, you know, obviously he was here the first year he was hurt the second year. He was living right through all that stuff. And they were probably over there going, where else all this stuff come? Or she getting all this stuff from? I loved when someone floated the idea. I don't think it's true because I think it was just somebody who was out there taking pictures that's jets had hired the private investigator. Yeah. I love that idea that was floated out there. I don't know if that's the, believe that's the case, but that would have been hilarious but was Yankees beat the Rockies 10 to three. But I just want to say, two to hope, you man. I don't think anyone slept better than him last night. What do you think about that? I mean, but really think about the Yankee season this year. And you think about all the injuries and all the guys that have had to play third base, shortstop, second base, first base, DH, right field, move a guy to center field, move a guy over to left field, bring another guy back over to the right field. I mean, Aaron Boone should be manager of the year for God's sake. Now I mentioned that about a month ago. I was looking at the odds. He's nowhere near the top. And I think I think it's a real testament. Look, they played the Rockies. They stink. You know, that's a minor league team. A minor league is. Yeah.

35:47But, you know, they had to do this. They had to sweep the Rockies. They got to try to take two out of three from our beloved Mets. I hope that doesn't happen. I want to know him. I claim to go out there and I want him to have a great outing tonight and shut down this, this offense of the Yankees. But I have to say for a local kid that had the world at his fingertips for about a year and a half to two years. And then they get sent down to the minors and be embarrassed and then be replaced by another younger kid who had his struggles when he first came up here. And then they have this kid come back. If the jazz gets hurt and do what he did last night, I mean, that's a testament to the Yankee culture. They're, you know, the way that they develop players, the way that they use their players. And they have, they have such a deep well of players to go to. Absolutely. It has been a really interesting and positive and that's not passive aggressive by the way. But that is just nothing but total respect. Regular season and Aaron Judge coming back and we just start feeling better and better
