Hounslow Loses Dedicated Leader: Councillor Jagdish Sharma

0:00On March 24, Hans Lowe has lost the dedicated public servant with the passing of 91-year-old counselor, Jagdish Sharma. The longtime labor representative for Hans Lowe West died after battling cancer. Sharma served the community for decades, leaving behind a strong mark on local politics. He first won election back in 1974 and made history as Hans Lowe's first Asian mayor in 1979. Later he rose to deputy leader and then council leader from 2010 to 2014, guiding the borough through key years. Born and educated in India, with a master's in economics from Punjab University, Sharma arrived in the UK in 1965 as a maths teacher. He eventually became head teacher at a school in Ealing. His work earned him an MBE in 1995 for local government service and the freedom of the borough in 2000. Members across parties have shared warm tributes. The current council head called him a pioneering mentor who champion inclusion and young voices

With local elections coming in just over six weeks, no bi-election will fill his seat. Sharma's legacy of compassion and leadership will continue to shape Hans Lowe for years ahead.
