Hospital Shooting: Third in Birmingham in 14 Years

A shooting at Brookwood Hospital's Women Center in Birmingham on Sunday night has left two people dead in what police call a domestic murder suicide. A 24-year-old woman was killed by gunfire and a 19-year-old man died from a self-inflicted wound. No one else was hurt, and the hospital locked down while officers cleared the scene. This marks the third such incident at Birmingham area hospitals in the past 14 years. Back in March of 2018, a gunman killed a 63-year-old employee at UAB Highlands Hospital and wounded another before taking his own. Life in what seemed like a workplace dispute. Meanwhile, in December of 2012, shots rang out on the 5th floor of St. Vincent's Hospital's Cardiovascular Care Center. A gunman wounded a police officer and two staff members, but officers shot and killed him on site and all three victims survived.
