Homeschoolers Gather at Civil War Site for Interactive Learning

More than 100 homeschool students and their parents gathered at Bennett Place State Historic Site for a special homeschool day event. This Civil War landmark, run by the state, hosted hands-on activities to draw on families from the areas booming homeschool community. North Carolina now has about 165,243 homeschool students, a 55% jump over the past 10. That number beats out even the largest public school district like Wake County, which has around 160,000 kids. Parents say these group trips help their children socialize and get deeper experiences than solo visits. One mom from Wake Forest noted how field trips build networks among families and offer fun, interactive learning, like trying old-time stilts or checking out historic weapons.
