HMS Victory's Iron Mast Lifted: A Historic Maritime feat

0:00On April 28th, a team of 30-ship experts just pulled off a massive lift on HMS Victory, Nelson's legendary flagship from the Battle of Trafalgar. They removed the 15-ton Radiron Foremasth using a 750-ton crane, all part of a 42-million-pound restoration. Project to keep this icon sailing through history. The operation kicked off Monday night and wrapped by Tuesday morning, handled with insane precision to avoid any damage to the ship's wooden frame. If the Wednesdays calm, they'll crane off the mizzen mast and boastbrit next, laying them dockside for repairs. Deputy Project Director Patricia Perazzo called it a solid win after tackling early hurdles, stressing how these masts haven't lain flat in one, 130 years. Experts compared the swing from vertical to horizontal, like yanking someone up by the hair delicate stuff after six months of planning. These aren't the original wooden masts. Back in the 1890s, rotten ones got swapped for iron ones recycled from the old frigate HMS Shah.

1:02The only survivors of their kind, the main mass came off back in 2021. And now, full scaffolding will wrap the ship until work wraps in 2033. With the dock yard staying open to visitors, victories getting primed for another century at sea, masts and all restored to perfection.
