Ashland St Baptist Church Podcast Notes Heroes Sunday Title: The Bible’s First Responder Text: Mark 2:1-3

Intro: Today we honor real-life heroes—and see how four friends became heroes of faith by getting a helpless man to Jesus.

I. The Hearers (Mark 2:1-2) "It was noised that he was in the house." Jesus looks for:

• An Open Heart
• An Open Hand
• An Open Home

II. The Helpless (Mark 2:3) The paralyzed man:

• Couldn’t get to Jesus
• Couldn’t help himself
• Only Jesus could save him

Romans 5:6-10 – Christ died for us when we were helpless.

III. The Helpers (Mark 2:3) Four friends = Four qualities:

1. Prayer
2. Compassion (Jude 22)
3. Faith
4. Determination (Story: Boy buys Bible for his friend)

IV. The Hang-Ups (Mark 2:4) Obstacles:

• The Crowd
• The Cry
• The Cover (roof!)

V. The Healer (Mark 2:5-12)

• Jesus received the man
• He honored their faith
• He forgave sins (Only God can do this) Corrie Ten Boom’s story of forgiveness shows the power of Christ’s healing.

Close: "We never saw it on this fashion." We’ve never seen anything like what Jesus can do. Heroes respond—and Jesus responds back.
