I'll give you my reasons why Miami is primed to make another deep college football playoff run and hopefully get over the finish line this time around. And if they can do that, that would certainly contribute to how hated this program is. So Josh Pate from on three sports, he did, I guess, an extensive study on this that culminated in a recent episode of his where, you know, he asked college football fans far and wide for their most hated teams. And he came up with a top eight. And as mentioned, I mean, Miami fans, we take a lot of pride in this because when our program was like in its absolute peak when it came to pop culture, you know, the era that was covered in the you part one documentary, Miami was the most hated team the college football had ever seen at that point. So we take a lot of pride in this at Miami. So the hurricanes are represented on the top eight Josh Pate most hated teams, but we

3:16barely made the top five. So here's the order. We'll tell you what he said about Miami. The most hated the Notre Dame fighting Irish, and you know what? Miami fans may not argue that one. The arrogance, the holier than now attitude, the attitude that Notre Dame is just different from every other program in college football. That's the attitude their fans have. It's understandable Alabama comes in at number two, Texas at number three, LSU at number four. I'm sure the Lane Kiffin effect has a lot to do with that right now. Miami at number five, USC number six, Michigan at number seven. I feel like Michigan who literally cheated to win a national championship a couple of years ago could be ranked a little higher than seven, but you know what? Miami being ranked higher than them. It shows you this you this logo carries weight. And then rounding out the top eight is Ohio State, but here is per on three sports y on

4:18this Josh Payt poll. Miami comes in number five top five in the most hated teams. While he acknowledged that the canes could be higher. Payt cited what he described as two distinct groups of haters. Those of a certain age that remember when the you were widely considered the bad boys of college football in the 80s and 90s. Yeah, he's right about that. You know, the older, the 40 plus crowd out there that like disliked Miami because of the swagger era. They will never let that go like again, the you part one documentary, all of that stuff covered there. You know, we've over the last couple of weeks, we've interviewed two different players who were big parts of that 1991 cotton bowl game with all the penalties and the celebrations. Like that game is like the perfect example of why the you is hated by the older crowd. You know, you were either with us or you were against us back then.

5:20And he says others are more bothered by the perceived arrogance. Some hurricanes fans carry themselves with, especially after making last season's college football playoff championship game. Here's a quote from paid quote, Miami is back in the national championship conversation. They're back at the head table and here's the thing about Miami folks. When they're good, they're the first in line to tell you they're the first in line to let you know, yeah, you know, it's funny. People always make their jokes about how Miami doesn't have any fans. And then as soon as you say something obnoxious or wrong about our program on social media, you get attacked by Miami fans because you just don't realize we're everywhere, right? I mean, listen, we we may not sell out a September game against Bethune Cookman because we've got alumni in California and Chicago and New York all over the world. But this fan base comes together when we're needed most.

6:21And I think another, by the way, with how international Miami's fan base is something that paint did not include in his explanation there as to why Miami is so hated. And I'm going to try to put this as nicely as possible because I could get a lot deeper on to this if I really wanted to, but you know, a lot of college football fans who are fans of the traditional powers who are from the college towns, they have a lot of resentment about the fact that, you know, Miami, our city is an international melting pot as opposed to the college towns like they they feel like they're part of some club that we're not a part of. So there's resentment that comes from that. But I do think that for part of it, paint hit the nail on the head that, yeah, listen, Miami fans, we have that that pent up swagger and we're a fiery group of people. And when the team is good and winning football games, we're going to be the first there to remind you. I mean, it, you know, we fell short in the national championship and I'm sorry we did,

7:24but it was still an impressive run to get to the CFP championship. And another reason why Miami fans got so loud this past season was, we had the chance to beat every single one of our rivals last year, Florida knocked them down, Florida state we beat them Ohio state Notre Dame Virginia Tech, who I obviously not a, not a powerhouse program at that moment, but you're talking about your like top five of your biggest rivals in college football, Miami had the chance to beat them all in one season. So that's part of the reason why we've gotten so loud, but the only thing that can make Miami fans even louder for next year is if we can finish the job because, oh man, if the hurricanes, when, because it's only a matter of time, whether it happens next year, the year after five years from now, 10 years from now, when Miami gets national championship number six, there's going to be a lot of folks who might want to stay off of social media

8:27for years after that because we're going to be so loud about it. But you know, do you guys agree with the other programs that he put above Miami for most hated? I mean, I don't know, Alabama, I would have said a couple of years ago, I just don't feel like Bama at number two has the same sort of hatred in the Kalan de Bohr era that they had with Sabin, and it's not like Sabin necessarily should have been hated, but they were just so dominant and they've not had that same level of dominance in the post Sabin era, Texas, you know, Texas is always going to be hated because Texas fans are a little bit like Miami fans that, you know, they, as we do, they get very obnoxious when they win things and archmaning is very polarizing, LSU at number four, you know, they find a way to go from like the most unlikable head coach in Brian Kelly to finding someone even more unlikable than Kelly with, with Lane and the way that they hired Lane and the way he went

9:32about leaving Ole Miss. So I get that one, but I'm telling you, man, if Miami this season can get national championship number six, I think we can skyrocket past a few of those programs. We may not quite reach Notre Dame levels of hatred because their pompous attitude finally caught up with them, opting out of the pop tart bowl. But I think we can get pretty close to that. A couple of things I want to get to when we come back. My reasons for why Miami is going to make another deep run this season and become even more hated. I got to say like I put something out on social media this morning and I I don't know if I've ever felt like so connected to other Miami fans because when I was asking you guys, what are your most hated college football teams or Miami rivals? I've got really four like I, you know, if I really wanted to go beyond four, I could probably do it for argument's sake, but I've got my four programs that I dislike most and 85% of the responses from you guys are completely in lockstep with me and some of the orders are a little bit tweaked, but for me in order and you guys can let me know in the comments below your most hated college football teams or rivals. I go, I go Florida number one. It's because I'm old. Okay. So if you're like under 30 or under 35, you probably don't go Florida one, but you know,

13:46I was, I started watching Miami when Miami versus UF was still an annual rivalry. My father was a hurricane's fan before I was and so I hear stories from the even older fans about the gator flop and of course, you know, when the gators took Miami off their schedule, they were too afraid to play us when they, you know, got deep into the weeds in the SEC. So there's a lot of resentment there, being an in state guy, I went to school, high school in South Florida. A lot of my friends from high school went to UF. So we had the rivalries. I've got friends who went to Gainesville and everything like that. So UF for me is at the top, even above Florida state. I put Florida state at number two. There's obviously a rivalry, you know, these teams have played annually for God. How many consecutive years? How many consecutive decades? But it's always like you go back to the Bobby Boudon days. There was always just a little more respect like Miami and Florida never really respected each other.

14:47It was just pure hate where Miami versus FSU. I think the fact that neither ever took the other off the schedule, no matter which conferences they were playing in, you know, when Miami was independent or when Miami was in the big east and Florida state was in the ACC, these schools have always played each other. And I'm not saying it's always respectful on the field, but there's just been a little bit more respect over the last several decades. So Florida state is number two right behind Florida. Notre Dame. I could have maybe even ranked them higher, you know, we just, we just don't play them frequently enough, although that rivalry, of course, bitter, bitter is anything. Back in the 80s, the whole Catholics versus convicts thing, you know, it was a gross narrative disgusting. And it really brought the hatred out between these fan bases and the players. Like I talked to old school players like Randall Thrill Hill who joined us last week. Like he despises Notre Dame, the guys who were part of that regular on field rivalry.

15:51And then of course, this past year, you know, Miami beating Notre Dame in the regular season ultimately kept the Irish out of the playoffs. We play him again this year, Jeremiah Love at the Combine is talking about how he hates Miami. So there's definitely something there. Maybe you guys rank Notre Dame a little higher than I do at third. And then I put Ohio State at fourth. I know like the ones who don't really know, like wouldn't say, hey, Miami and Ohio state, they're not really rivals. Like okay. Yeah, they are. I mean, what Miami just did to Ohio State in the 2025 playoffs, Ohio State, you know, allegedly beat Miami and the Fiesta Bowl back in 2002 took a championship away from the hurricanes on a terrible call on the past interference. Like, you know, I consider Ohio State a rival. I think most Miami fans do. So that that's my four. I mean, you could save Virginia Tech. You could list a couple of other ACC schools, I guess. But Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, that's my top four.

16:55One of my favorite replies though on social media was from you in Miami who said ACC refs at number one. That was well done. How could I forget the ACC refs, but yeah, that's a good one. But those are my four most hated. If you guys want to expand it beyond four, let me know in the comments. And I've got Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State for mine. I was on the crane and cone show last week. And you know, according to the fan vote, allegedly, I lost the debate against Brian Driscoll who covers Notre Dame. And I will accept my defeat like a man. It was painful. It was a fun, fun time being on the show, but unfortunately, I allegedly lost the debate. But one of the things that we talked about in that debate was, you know, my view on why Miami is going to win a championship before Notre Dame. Driscoll's view on why Notre Dame will get it before Miami. But my reasons why I strongly feel Miami is on the cusp of winning national championship

17:57number six and why it can get done in this upcoming 2026 season. My first reason, I believe Miami has upgraded at quarterback, because Darian Menseth not only has a higher ceiling than Carson Beck with his explosive play capabilities and his abilities to extend plays and do more with his legs. But I think he's a perfect fit for Shannon Dawson's offense at Miami. And Menseth, I think, has the best collection of talent around him that Miami quarterbacks have had in recent years. Like I would take Menseth supporting cast in terms of receivers and running backs, weapons. I would take that over what Carson Beck had in 2025 and over what Cam Ward had in 2024. You got the same running back room as last year, but guys will theoretically be more experienced and healthier. Like I'm hoping if Jordan Lyle has a fully healthy season coming up, this guy's the limit for Miami's running attack.

18:59You bring Malakai Tony back a year older, wiser and stronger coming off a 1200 yard true freshman season. You add Cooper Barcai to that. You add Dre Jacobs and Cam Vaughan, Dale and Upshog gets a year older. Samorian Wingo and Milan Paris might be able to contribute big time as true freshman. The receiving core is better. The running back room is at least as good, if not better, getting everybody back with a year more experience behind their belts. So Darian Menseth to me, when it comes to his ability to attack down the field, led the nation in deep ball attempts last year at 86 loves to attack down the field. His versatility, his ability to extend plays. I think Miami's offense is going to be more explosive with Darian Menseth and his weapons than it was with Carson Beck and his weapons last year sidebar. I'm really proud of Carson Beck for the combine he just had. We covered that on our Sunday episode despite getting booed by the petty Indiana and Notre

20:00Dame fans at Lucas Oil Stadium. Carson had a tremendous workout and his stock is rising. Right. I think we're going to see him fingers crossed, potentially a day two draft pick, which would be big. He might end up being quarterback number three in the draft, which would be awesome for him. But I think Darian Menseth is going to be even better at Miami. That's reason number one. Reason number two, why I think Miami's going to make another deep playoff run. I am a firm believer in the concept of learning how to win. Because prior to last season, Miami teams usually faded late in the season in November, hadn't won a bowl game since 2016. Not that bowl games are a great measure because a guy is opting out and stuff, but we had a long recent history of Miami kind of fading down the stretch of the season. They broke that trend last year. This team figured out how to handle adversity, how to break through that brick wall, November,

21:02December and even into January. And I think they can build on that success because this team is battle tested. And yeah, it's not all the same players from last year, but leaders in that building, like Mark Fletcher, Jr. and Malachi Tony can set the tone for the rest of that group, Muhammad Torre, who's like 35 years old, who's back in that linebacker core. Like these guys learned how to handle their business and handle their adversity, late in the season and peak at the right time. So they learned lessons from adversity last year. I believe this team is more mentally tough at the start of this season than they were last year. Number three, yeah, you lost some really good players from your defense like Bain and Mezzador, but this defense has talent. And I think the continuity that's going to come in the second year of a Corey Heatherman scheme is big. I think this defense can take another step forward. And you love the idea of Heatherman getting his second group to coach these guys. And then number four, you know, outside of a really, really tough road trip to South

22:03Bend in November, Miami versus Notre Dame, like that game might be more to decide playoff seeding than playoff elimination, because I think Miami and Notre Dame are probably both playoff teams, regardless of who wins that game. Miami's got an easier schedule on paper than what they had last year. Now, you never necessarily know which teams might rise up and fall compared to last year, but the hurricanes have what looks like a better schedule, including you get to finish your season with three straight home games instead of two straight on the road, which really became like what six straight on the road. If you include the playoffs in that, in theory, Miami should not have to sneak into an at large bid in the playoffs this coming year. The table is set for Miami to have, you know, these are famous last words, I guess. I hope I'm not jinxing anything, but it looks like Miami's going to have a more manageable path into the playoffs than they did last year.

23:03And Miami looks by and large like the best team in the ACC. So hopefully they can get that done. So again, I think the table is set for Miami to be able to get back into the CFP and hopefully build on what they started. That wasn't the end last year. That was the beginning of the journey. And if Miami is going to continue long term success year after year, you got to build it through recruiting a couple of important predictions from Cain's sport and on three rivals on players. Miami is now favored to land in the class of 2027. A couple of blue chippers are trending in Miami's direction. You want to keep it locked right here. 25:08because with the combine wrapping up last week in Indianapolis. Max, of course, and his crew at PFF, they cover all of this stuff and they've covered these guys since they were in college. I want to get Chadwick's take on Rubin Baines draft stock. After all this talk about the arms being short, Markelle Bell. Do you see that 53640 that he ran? Now 536 may not sound impressive, but when you factor in 6 foot 9, 346 pounds, yeah, that dude is flying for his size. So how did Markelle Bell raise his stock and did Carson Beck raise his stock with the workout that he had? We're going to talk about them and all the other draft prospects with Max Chadwick of PFF College. That'll be in a bonus episode later on today. And on Wednesday, we're going to talk recruiting with EJ Holland, who's new to the CainSport.com crew at rivals on three.

26:08EJ has been on the Miami beat. He used to cover Michigan. He's been on the Miami beat for like a month and he is crushing it like he goes to all the camps, all the combines, all the seven on sevens. He's interviewing prospects left and right. So I want to get kind of EJ's take on where Miami recruiting stands and actually EJ Holland from on three rivals. He and head of rival scouting Chad Simmons put in a couple of joint predictions, the rivals version of the crystal ball over the weekend. These are important predictions. They predict Nick Leneer, five-star Carol Citywide receiver to Miami and Nick Leneer, this new prediction for him, is actually his fourth rivals prediction from various reporters to land at the U, which is a great sign that Miami is now the trending favorite. Leneer, EJ writes, has long been considered a Miami lean and the hurricanes appear close to crossing the finish line in this race.

27:09Leneer was very open about his process at the sevens event last weekend and made it clear that Miami remains in the pole position. I believe Nick Leneer, especially with him being local, he's a musket, right? Because over the years, we've had really good receivers leave the area. That guy at Ohio State, whose name I will no longer mention, because I'm tired of talking about him, is the ultimate example. We don't want Nick Leneer to leave. Mark Matthews, the five-star offensive tackle from St. Thomas is another one. We do not want to leave the area, but Leneer is right up there. And then there's also a prospect from Georgia, a top defensive prospect that Miami is trending well with. Holland and Simmons have logged arrivals prediction in favor of KJ Caldwell to Miami. He's a four-star safety out of Littleburn, Georgia, Parkview High School. KJ Caldwell, I'm still learning more about his game. He's six foot 180 pounds.

28:12Miami is a strong trending leader. LSU, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and Georgia, the in-state schools are also in the mix for him. You notice Miami over the last few years in the crystal ball era has done pretty well, taken good prospects out of the state of Georgia. This could be another one, as we're always trying to bolster that defensive backfield, right? So KJ Caldwell, another prediction that goes in Miami's favor. So I know we're gonna talk about these prospects and so many others on Wednesday when EJ Holland from rivals on three, CainSport.com joins us. So I'm looking forward to getting into all of that. Something else I'm gonna be getting into throughout the week is we know we're little over three weeks away from the start of Spring football at Miami. We're looking at March 24th as the targeted start date there. I made a couple of small tweaks to my pre-Spring depth chart, but I know we're gonna have certainly some debates on who I've got starting, who I've got as the primary backups,

29:12and then in a couple of months after Spring Ball, we can go back and look at where I may have been wrong or where I may have been very right. So we have a great week coming up.
