Halloween Horror Nights 2026 Opens

Hour 2 (9.04) The LA County DA promised in June he'd have a picnic in MacArthur Park on Labor Day. He's going through with it this weekend. Halloween Horror Nights opened last night with a Sinners house. 

7:05 — Neil Saavedra, the Fork Reporter, joins Tim. Amazon returns and the volume moving through them, why truck drivers and delivery people are buried right now, and the eternal question of why motorcycles have to be that loud. The riders' answer: so you can hear them. And the thank-you wave, which nobody dislikes. 

7:20 — More with Saavedra. His wife's master's from USC, and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which opens September 22 in Exposition Park. Star Wars takes up about seven percent of it. The rest is narrative art and storytelling — a Norman Rockwell holding well over a hundred works, Maxfield Parrish, N.C. Wyeth, Jessie Willcox Smith, and children's book illustration from Beatrix Potter and Leo Politi, out of a founding collection north of 40,000 pieces. Plus the time Conway and Steckler got thrown out of LACMA for breathing on the art. 

7:35 — Halloween Horror Nights opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, and this year's run is the longest they've ever done: 42 nights through November 1. Eight haunted houses, six scare zones, the Terror Tram hosted by Art the Clown, and the Purge stunt show. The headliner is Sinners, built out of the second half of Ryan Coogler's film — Club Juke, the vampires, the whole thing. It hit a sixty-minute wait within half an hour of the gates opening. Hellraiser makes its Hollywood debut, and Stranger Things, Killer Klowns and Ozzy Osbourne all have houses. The element of surprise is the whole game. 

7:50 — Back in June, during the federal and LAPD operation at MacArthur Park, District Attorney Nathan Hochman made a specific public pledge: Labor Day 2026, middle of the day, he'd be there with his family having a picnic. His office has confirmed he's hosting one this weekend. So — is it actually safe to take a family there? Plus, Saavedra fills in for Handel on Monday.
