Halifax's Urban Trail Race: History Meets Running

0:00On April 4, Halifax and West Yorkshire is dropping a fresh twist on trail racing this Easter weekend with its first ever urban trail event. Instead of muddy moors, runners hit pavements, staircases, and historic buildings in a 5-kilometer dash through the town's hidden gems. Race Director Andrew Bibby cooked this up to spotlight local architecture and away folks ain't seen before in the UK. Bibby got the spark from a wild urban run he did in Fougiers, France last year, racing ramparts, theaters, schools, churches, even a tunnel width, organs blasting. Back home, he pitched it to building owners and every single one jumped on board from civic spots to sacred spaces. Locals are buzzing with an 80-year-old runner named Kay Pierce lacing up she's been hitting races since her 30s but never won like this. The vicar at Halifax Minster called it an honor saying it opens the church to everyone, faiths or none, and celebrates the town right. Entries are pouring in from leads, cartif, even Somerset.
