Yes, retweets have it, and I'll post it here in a second, if him leaving the arena on crutches, and another shot showed one of the doctors that had a boot, carrying a boot alongside him, so he's obviously not going to play the rest of the day, I can't imagine he's going to play on Sunday against Kentucky, and so if it's that kind of a sprain, he's probably done, and a team that looked like they had a really good shot at their first final forever has just lost, maybe they're probably their best player. That's going to wreck a lot of brackets. He's got to fight through it is what I think we're saying here, so what we're getting at? It's going to wreck my bracket. You've got Iowa State in the final four, don't you? I do.

I don't know of Leary of, but. Floring does not do well against guys taller than him. They got. Now, there's probably a talent. I know you've talked about this coming from the whack. There's a talent difference. There's a difference between playing a 6-11, big 12 guy. And a 6-11 whack guy. So that may matter. But he does not do well with guys who are. He cannot out size people. He's just, he's tremendous. But you can defend him if you're taller than him. That would ask about. Yesterday about. Well, besides Daniels, you know, he went. Bill Silver right to the. The size. He says that's that's something to contend with. Yeah, I think they've got. I think you mentioned this with Haney. I don't need to. They have a 6-11 guy. They have multiple. So if you just want to say. Keep fouling them. We'll do that. Fine. You've got 20 fouls to give.

8:04They've got depth. And I. And I always have to be careful. Because every year, I'm like, OK, let's. Let's dive into who their opponent is. And the Kansas opponent is always. Usually it's school like this. Mm hmm. And you, you know, you read it. And you read like blue ribbon or wherever you go. And it's like, oh, talented school. You know, 23 a game. You know, and like. And then you look. And you're like, OK, in the whack. He's 23 a game. And he's shooting like 386 from three. Mm hmm. Like, so how are we getting that shot volume is clearly part of the equation here? And it's like, OK, yeah, he can go. I mean, if he gets hot, yeah, he can make it happen. I'm going to talk to pep Fernandez. Is that his name? That is the play by play voice of the California. The Lancers. The Lancers. Pep Fernandez. Greatest name in the history of of of announcing. As a matter of fact, I think. But, you know, I look forward to that. But I do think that. I like, I read that. I'm like, oh, OK, so they got a front line. You know, a guy can really fill it up. Then they got all this depth of size. That gets flurry problems. But then I'm like, OK, who's who's on tray white?

9:06Who's on. You know, and you look at the kids. The one thing that does stand out to me about Cal Baptist is they, I thought I was going to see seven kids who all played somewhere else last year. And they all been there. One kid is new this year as a transfer. There's another kid that like played three years somewhere else. He's in a second year here. The main kid. What's his name again? Daniels. Daniels. Daniels is three years only at Cal Baptist. They got a freshman at Cal. They got another kid who's a sophomore. There is some continuity to the team. So like, if they won, I would re want, I would look at it and go like, well, this isn't your usual just band of renegades. Yeah. It isn't your, you know, six, eight guy in the middle with your power, you know, four guards, right? You've got it. And the guy's listed at six, eight. And you look at him and it's, you know, it's the Mizzou guy in the middle of the rat. If you're like, he's not six, eight. Yeah. You know, five, ten. What is happening?

10:06Even if the seven footers aren't seven foot, they're not six, six and a half. Exactly. So I'm, I, I, there is real size. And so I, I can see what we'll look back and say, like, this is why we should have taken them more seriously. But, but I also have done this a number of times. I'm like, Holy Cross has got a six, 11 guy. And they go, this guard is doing this. And they got them doing that. And then you get out there and it's like, you know, they, they mess around for a few minutes with them. And then, okay, it's half time in their down 60. Yeah. And, and look, I, everything we've just said, you know, we've presented the strengths that the Lancers have. I will say this vehemently, if they lose this game, it's a disaster of a loss. Okay. Period. Because that's, that's the part that I'm interested in. That's a no excuse. You have to win this game. Obviously, there's no guarantees. We've seen Bill. It's been 20 some odd years. But we have seen these types of losses. He losses a three and he lost as a four in 05 and 06. So it, it happens. And of course, I mean, even coach K losses a two. So these things happen, but it will be a terrible loss

11:09if they don't pull it off tonight. Why I appreciate you saying that as a Kansas guy. Yeah. Where do you sit on where the program is right now? Yeah. Did you hear us talking earlier about like with Lloyd and, and Calvin Samson? I, Bill self is yet to look down on them. Now it's, it's not been that long. Yeah. But he is yet to look down on them. Now, do they? So Samson was not, it, Samson, they weren't in the big 12 in 23 where they, because I think the last time, that's the last time Kansas won the big 12. Correct. It was the year after the title. But yeah, I do think, here's what I will go back to. Roy had a stretch where they had that famous lost Arizona in 97 is, you know, they lost one game all year and Miles Simon and Mike Bibby beat him in the sweet 16. They did not go back to a sweet 16 until 02. And that included a stretch where they worked. Now, there would, it would include a stretch as a one seed when Rhode Island got him in the second round.

12:10But then that included a stretch where they were a six seed and then an eight seed and then a four seed. So Roy had a run like this. The difference is that wasn't at a time where college basketball was fundamentally changing. And so at that point, it was maybe fair to ask, well, what's going on with Roy? But you could also say, well, he's got these young kids. He'd Heinrich, Collison, Refreshman, et cetera, et cetera. Now you can say, is Bill just in a lull or is he struggling or has the modern game passed him? Yeah. I mean, like Jay writes that I'm out. Yeah. Coach David Roy Williams. All these guys like, I'm not, this is not for me. It's, it's amazing because usually when something. I mean, I don't want to say past and back is to make it sound like he doesn't have the aptitude to keep up. But because he not have the stomach to do the things it takes. And I've been, and I've been saying this for a couple of years. And look, I, you, and you've said similar things. There's been a million times where I've said it's an interesting decision by Bill. And it proved to be the right decision.

13:10Right. So, but man, I keep looking and go, why does he not have a general manager? I think he does. I think it's Doc Sadler. Let's go. Okay, just not in, doesn't have the title. And I might be totally wrong. But I know that Doc Sadler, everyone I talk to agrees that Doc Sadler is a fantastic basketball mind. Okay. And so I'm with you that it may need, you know, because Doc Sadler is the director of basketball operations, I think. Yeah. Which may mean that that's the title they give him and he's the offense desire because he's credited with being a really good offensive mind. And so I know Bill gets what box out. And Doc Sadler, it seems to be a lot of the times the guy sitting next to. Oh, he's sitting by next to Terran. Yeah. But early on, he was always the guy that was sitting right there. So, you know, I'm not sure what his role is. But if my assumption is, he kind of handles that that maybe Bill bristles at the idea of having a title of somebody that. I don't think anybody feels like the general managers that are out there in football and basketball are calling the shots over the coaches.

14:11Yeah, I don't, I can't imagine anybody thinking that. But I, you know, that's the title they're being given. And I hope that those duties are being done by somebody. And if you could have on the Kansas staff a general manager and have Doc Sadler. Yes. Yeah, which like to me, there's a lot of work to be done. There's more work to be done now than people realize. I mean, I will trumpet this forever and ever as long as I have someone, you know, willing to listen that. The beauty, the smartest thing I see out of baseball teams is here's a great guy available. We're hiring him. Well, what's he going to do? Well, I'm not sure. We'll figure it out. Yeah, I just know that he's a good baseball mind and we're going to, we're going to bring him in. If we've got an opportunity and then we'll make sure we're giving him enough stuff to challenge him. I mean, I think you do have a position. What, you know, that you could give to another bright young mind and call it whatever you need to call it to make it work. But I don't think you can have too many people, whether it's breaking down the analytics, breaking down the tape, hitting the, I mean, really it's a lot, it's a lot more scouting than it is being on the phone and calling.

15:11Yeah, I mean, it takes one call to tell the agent how much you'll give him. Yeah, it's not. You don't have to love him every day. Exactly. I saw, saw the video of your, your, your, your gym class today. Who? Boy, that was a dunk. Yeah. You don't have to kiss ass all the time now. So $1 is a dollar. But, but which to me means that you can cover way more ground. Like, who's the guy that's in charge of checking the euros? Yeah. As long as the 20 year old euros is going to be able to come in after playing three years of pro ball. Then why are you not all over that? Yeah. And it's not that KUH SV. That came from overseas and, you know, they, they, they've done that. But to me, there is still plenty of work to be done to add another position. Yeah. If indeed KUH could add another position. And I, a story I go back to that you and you've told a few times where I, the name of the gentleman, I don't even know if we know his name, but he was, it was a camp and he asked Bill, sell for some advice. Yeah. And he said, why do you want to coach? And he said, well, I love basketball and I love teaching. And I want to learn as much as I can about basketball. He said, okay, then you need to look at the NBA or high school. Because only about 10% of what I do is actual coaching.

16:13And that 10% is spread thinner than it's ever been spread at this point. Well, and he did amend that two years ago when we were broadcasting up there when they were, you know, showing the new lounge. Oh, yeah. And the new lounge. And that was the night before North Carolina came to town. Yeah. He's like, well, you know, you may have caught me on a rough day. He said, you know, maybe, maybe like 30 to 50% of my job. You know, he kind of amended it. I'm like, well, I know specifically it was a Gary Paris story. Yeah. Actually, that I was quoting and Paris quoting Bill Selfie said, Gary said that I said, yeah, that was the way he told it. He said, well, he may have caught me on a bad day. He said, there's probably more than that. But the point is still valid. Yeah. If you really want to coach, then that's where you need to go. But I do think I would feel like it's getting more to that. Yeah. There would be more coaching now that it is just about, here's the number. I don't, I'm not going to call you every day on your way home from school. Here's the number. What makes this puzzle so interesting to me is. The fact that the rival of Houston and Arizona and the changing of the financial structure

17:13of basketball happened almost exactly the same time. If either one of those things had been the only thing that happened, you could look at it and say, well, that's the timeline. They began to fall off from being a dominant team when NIL the portal came. Or if that hadn't happened, you could say it happened when Houston and Arizona came. That they both happened. Yeah. I'm sure they both have an impact, but I don't know where that needle is. What side is it? Is it more and how much is one exacerbated by the other and how much, how much tougher does that make them to come out of it? And that, and that takes us back to a point. I think you were still running things at them. When DeBanza was being, DeBanza was being recruited. And the kind of the vibe from KU people was, well, BYU is giving them ridiculous money. I mean, we're not going to do that. Like, you know, that's just insane. And it's like, okay, so Kansas is not keeping up with the Joneses. And I mentioned that a number of times.

18:14They're like, hey, you know, here was the going rate on DeBanza. I mean, it doesn't matter if you think BYU should or shouldn't spend it. They were spending it. Whatever the number was. And then Kansas people are like, well, we got plenty of money. Well, which is it? Yeah. I mean, is it like some people are spending outrageous money? And you're not going to do that because you just think it's irresponsible? Fine. I respect that. But then you're not willing to spend as much money. Yeah. You know, you don't get to be like, no, no, we spend as much money. Okay. So you spend as much as everybody. Okay. Then why isn't it coming together? Why have you consistently here over the last few years? Not been competing for a league top. Besides the obvious of Tommy Lloyd and Kelvin Samson and Arizona and Houston are real coaches and real programs together. They're just like Bill, self and Kansas marrying up. It's a great marriage and they're tough. Got it. But like, you can't finish third of them every year. Yeah. You've got to win a couple of times. Yeah. And I don't know. Maybe the- And if it's not the money, then what is it? Yeah. Yeah. Maybe it's how they're spending their money. Are you missing the GM? Because you're not spending as high-play.

19:14Yeah. So you, you know, like, fine. I don't care what the problem is. Just let's identify it. Yeah. Let's fix it. And I think the last couple of years, and this is not a reason this year because he's gone. But I do think the last couple of years, it was a talent deficiency. I think- And we've talked about this before. I think Hunter Dickinson gets unfairly criticized. I think it wasn't Hunter Dickinson's fault that he was the best player on that team. That's Bill Self's fault. But I think when Hunter Dickinson is your best player, that's the team you're going to get. But that's- That group of talent is gone now. And you could have- Okay. Is this- When he can reset. And he has reset in the terms of they got a whole bunch of new talent, but they're still a forcey. And they still finished third, or I think they were- No, they finished as the three seed in the big 12. So, yeah, I don't know, man. I do wonder, is it just- Is he just in the lull? I mean, I can't- I don't know that Coach K ever had a lull, but Roy did.

20:15Coach K got- Had the back injury and they were out of the tournament the one year. When he missed some games and everything, but- You know, he did have- You know, he did have- For years later, they had- They had a monster. I mean, in the 1990- I think that was- I think that was- And they had Quinn Snyder and- Yeah. His old point guard that were recruiting everybody. And then they left and went to Michigan and Missouri. Who was- What's- What was his name? Quinn Snyder was one as well. His only Michigan- No, it was Quinn and- Who was Michigan's coach? And then he went to Seton Hall. Oh, I don't know. Only Michigan coach, I think it was- Not Johnny Dawkins? No. No, he was- He was the point guard with Johnny and moved Johnny Dawkins over to the two. Yo, man. That 86, 88. Yeah, I'll look that up. Range team. Not even- It's almost- It's almost- It's almost the Michigan coach. Tommy Amaker. Tommy Amaker, thank you. Oh, thank you. Those- Those- Tommy Amaker and Quinn Snyder were credited with getting all the talent. And then they moved on. And- Oh, guess what? Coach Kate could still get talent. Yeah, funny how that works. Yeah, funny how that works.

21:15Funny how that was. Quinn and- Got some. He doesn't know how to coach yet. Yeah, those guys could get talent too. But, um, but yeah. It is- So- I think- One- If I- If I can't just real quick. Yeah. I do think there is an element of should Bill really look at the money he spends should- Should- Should they a lot more to keeping- Try to keep guys for three or four years. Because Bill found a lot of success in- Not necessarily- I mean, Frank Mason is an extreme and so is Devonte because they were like three stars. But he found a lot of success in like- The guys in the 30s. Yeah, exactly. Travis Ralfords and- There were- There were guys that weren't the- I mean, your- Your point is valid. I- I think- I think that's a great question. I think the problem is- I- I don't know that you get that option. That's a- Yeah, it could be- Like, you know, another man's trash is a- You know, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Like, Travis Ralford in today's game.

22:15Like, you're looking- And like, yeah, we love you. Travis, you're great. Like, you're looking- And like, yeah, we love you. Travis, you're great. Like, ah, you know, we're giving you 300k. Well, but I got the score over here that's going to give me 500 because I'm going to be their leading score. Yeah. Like, you can move down and get more minutes. You can move down and get more shots. You can move down, get more money and get more minutes. Like, I think now- I- I think you're right, but I don't know that the answer is like, you can't keep anybody. Because there's always somebody out there. Like, we've got to set an amount. And when the guy goes beyond the amount, we have no choice. Yeah. You just have to build the team another way. Who's the outfielder you talked about with the- The Royals where he's one of those guys? David Asus. Yes. When he's not- When he's not on your team, they're like, boy, we'd love to have him. If you need an outfielder and you just look at David Asus, he's like, he gets on base. He can play any of the outfield spots. And when you don't play him great, but he can play any of them. And we can play center field if we need him to for 10 games. And, you know, bat him lead off. And then you get him there and you're like, he doesn't hit the ball over the wall. He's not really fast. Yeah. You had to hold him at third. Damn, don't we have somebody better than this guy?

23:16The wards become more exposed when you watch him every single day. By the way, De Asus today would be- His on base percentage would be valued a lot higher than it was then. Yeah. They wouldn't have spent all this time. The Royals people- This is a sidebar, but I just want to talk to people. I'm like, you know, De Asus keeps getting picked off. Yeah, we're really working on it. We want him to be more aggressive. He's got to get bigger jumps. I go, how about just leave him at first? Yeah. And a guy looked at me like I had a dragon for a face. I was like, we talked about- He's batting lead off. He's got a steel basis. And I was like, you know, I read this book. And they're like, yeah, not so much on the steels. Like, you're not- Oh, no. We off guy. You got to make things happen. You got to I'm like, okay. All right. But yeah, they could very well be- Yeah, they are willing to offer you 500k. But there's a chance when that player gets there, their fans will go in the summer. Great. We got them. And then in January, they're going to be going, why are we giving this guy 500k? All right. I want to- I want to- Did they do anything wrong in the roster construction?

The guy who holds the record for all the points scored in a tournament is a guy who his team did not win it. So he seemingly would have had to have had one of those big games in a loss. I'm going to say Austin Carr. It is Austin Carr 52 for Notre Dame in a 109-99 loss to Kentucky in 1970. As I mentioned, 54th player to score at least 35 points in a non-OT loss in the NCAA tournament. He's just the eighth to do so in a game which his team allowed fewer than 80 points. That record. 38. Care to guess by who? I think this is the one. Wait, wait. 30. Give me the call. I was writing something down there. He's the eighth player to score 35 in a game that his team lost when his team allowed fewer than 80 points.

26:26So who scored more? Yeah. The most in a game which your team allowed fewer than 80 points but lost is 38. This is the low points. Is that a clearance Gilbert or something like that? No. I mean, I got the right squad. No. You have the right area of the country. Okay. Go west. Go west on I-70. So K-U? Go further west. K-State. Mike Beasley? Jacob. Jacob Poland. Kamen. 38. Wow. And the next game, I didn't love this, but the next game in Manhattan, they throttled a good, a really good Kansas team. And they were just amazing the rest. They are not only did he get them off the bubble, they were a 5C. They were ranked by the time the season ended. Jacob Poland is in all time legend and local college. If you had to write an extensive book of college basketball stories in the past 30 years in this town, there's got to be a Jacob Poland chapter. He was a guy that just united every fan base. You could not watch him play and not love what he was doing. They did. They lost his constant twice in three years. They lost as an 11 because
