[GUEST] Patrick Henningsen : Venezuela: America’s Next Disaster ?
About this episode
A president is kidnapped, the government remains, and we’re told it isn’t regime change. We pull back the curtain on what our guest calls “regime changeover,” a strategy that uses spectacle and lawfare to force leverage without admitting occupation. From sanctions that harden national unity to a reworked indictment against Nicolás Maduro that quietly retreats from early cartel claims, we dissect how narratives are built, sold, and then reshaped when facts don’t fit the script.
We get specific about why Venezuela resists the usual playbook. The Bolivarian civil-military structure blunts elite-driven coups, and a hybrid economy makes redistribution politics both urgent and volatile. When sanctions stall, pressure shifts to the shadows: covert action, destabilization, and the threat of a managed civil war. But force carries a heavy price. Without the will to occupy, Washington risks isolating itself across Latin America and the Global South while strengthening alternative alliances. That’s where heavy crude and strategic minerals enter the story—these aren’t just commodities; they’re logistical lifelines for militaries and power systems in a world edging toward multipolar confrontation.
The regional map matters. Cutting fuel flows to Cuba raises the stakes, inviting Russian or Iranian lifelines and reviving Cold War optics—tankers instead of missiles. Meanwhile, the financial track turns sanctions into profit centers, enabling distressed-asset deals and court-enabled seizures that move wealth under the veneer of legality. At home, executive overreach and headline diplomacy make lasting agreements harder, not easier. Durable deals rely on predictability and trust; tweets and tariffs deliver neither. We close with a clear takeaway: if the policy toolkit is limited to pressure and spectacle, the outcome is shrinking leverage, hardened resistance, and a region looking elsewhere for partners.

watch the recent interviews on years with a deep dive with Danny Davis and I thought your insights on a lot of these issues were really important in things that maybe aren't being hit on even though they're gaining a lot of coverage right now. So is it regime change in Venezuela? The DOJ revises its indictment against Maduro, who could speak out and what countries are potentially nets as victims of the US Empire. So the one of the big kind of spins on this whole thing is we didn't do a regime change in Venezuela. I mean, we went and we kidnapped the president, but we left the government mostly intact and I had this clip of down Trump to play that I love to get your thoughts. We're going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition. Our current strategy of nation building and regime change is a proven absolute failure.
We must abandon the failed policy of nation building and regime change that Hillary Clinton pushed in Iraq, in Libya, in Egypt and in Syria. regime change takes chaos. You've seen how that works over the last 20 years. That hasn't been too good. We're getting out of the nation building business. We're going to say until such time as the proper transition can take place. So Patrick, there's been a lot of rhetoric from down Trump over the years saying he won't rate when a regime change war. And yet we have all the manga faithful now spains in what happened in Venezuela wasn't a regime change war. What's your take? Was this a regime change? Yeah, well, there's a lot of cope on the on the mega side. It's a very confused group of people. What's left of them anyway?
They're peeling off at a alarming rate. So there may not be any mega left in six months. But nonetheless, so what I would say what you have is regime change over. A regime change over. So they removed the president through an illegal act and but they haven't changed the government. But so the short, I think the short term, the short term agenda was regime change over use what they've done, the spectacle of it as leverage to to twist the arm and to bully the government of Venezuela to try to comply. And they did a little exhibition of bombing and killed some people and sort of as a warning shot, you could say. But the long term, the United States, their long term agenda is regime removal. And that's the removal of the entire government. When I say entire government, I'm talking about in their mind, this is what
Washington's thinking, not that it corresponds with reality, but we'll just go with it. They want to get rid of any left leaning socialist elements in the Venezuela and government. And they want to deal with a pro US free market, pro US corporation government. That's that's their long term plan. Now how long would that take? How long will the US invest in a project like that? Well, let's just look at history. How long did it take them to destroy, decapitate and collapse the state of Syria took roughly 15 years. If you really want to be accurate, it's probably more like 25. And if you want to go take a longer sort of look, 50,000 foot view at a country like Syria, there were, I don't know how many coup attempts, probably 20 coup attempts from the 1950s, right through to well, last year, when Al Qaeda marched into Damascus. So so in terms of the US, they have, they have the resources, the time and
the patience, but the US is under pressure now. So they really don't have the time that maybe they had during previous presidents in the United States. So the if the first one would be sanctions, of course, and then to create pain and to promote an opposition to or, you know, an opposition exile or an opposition in the country, they've already gone through that. And it was a failure. They haven't succeeded. They tried, they bankrupt all these different opposition figures. Maria Carina Machado, as well as Juan Guaidó and there are many others. And it failed because they weren't able to pierce the national unity, the political unity and the ideological unity that you have in a country like Venezuela. Venezuela is not like other South American countries. It's very, very unique in that it is a Bolivarian Republic. It has certain attributes in terms of how the class structure is laid
out in respect to the military and to the government. You know, you have a working class people in officer positions. That's totally an anomaly. If you look at Chile, you look at Argentina, you look at Brazil with the elites and their kids to, you know, officer training school. And so and then off to the United States to Fort Benning for training in America. And that's how you can orchestrate very easily, coups in those countries, which the CIA have done Chile is the perfect example of that, but so is Argentina. But but Venezuela doesn't have that. So that's why there's been so many failed coups by the United States and Venezuela. Syria is also very similar in that respect. So there, those two countries have a lot in common. The bathist system is a type of a Bolivarian revolutionary government. It's an anti-colonial permanent revolution government until they break the chains of Western imperialism. Then they move on to a new phase, a more liberal phase in the Bolivarian
revolution, very similar in Venezuela. So they clearly don't view themselves as having been emancipated as a country. And the very proud people, you know, they're not like other South American. That's not to take anything away from other South American countries or people, but Venezuela is just, it's a slightly different type of political environment there. It's very, very difficult to penetrate. There's a sense of unity, a sense of national unity, a sense of class solidarity. And it's not a communist country. It's a rampant free market country truth being known that has like most countries these days is run by, you know, four billionaires or a handful of people own most of the things in the country. And I think that was the appeal of the Chavez and now Maduro governments is to read, readdress that imbalance in wealth and control of the machinery of the state and government.
And so, so this is the, the United States to do that. They have to, the only way you can do this is to either somehow, I think they failed on all these different, you know, this continuum that John Perkins wrote about and confession of an economic hitman. So now the jackals have arrived. And so, you know, they next would be assassinations, a whole slew of assassinations, destabilization, civil war. The United States is very comfortable with that and outcome. But, you know, and so blood run through the streets of Caracas, and the United States, you know, they have a plan as, as how to capitalize that, get control and, you know, insert their, their own regime, if you will, into power. And then the, if that fails, the, the last option is a full on military attack, occupation, Allah, Iraq. And the, the America just doesn't have the appetite for that.
But as I have said to other people as well, that, that's the irony. You know, you, you, a Trump that likes to kind of dip his toe in, you know, get a big media splash, get the, you know, the helicopters rolling in. It's all very Hollywood-like. But unless you put boots on the ground, is this the problem the U.S. always have, and it's a problem that Donald Trump's not willing to confront. You can't really do what you want to do in a country like Venezuela, unless you can start a bloody civil war and then, and then intervene militarily or just go in and attack a fight and occupy. And if you do that, the whole world will turn against you. The global South will be against you. The entire of Latin America will ultimately be eventually against you. And the United States will, will further go into a tailspin in terms of international respect. So, but then the, the irony is once you do that, you're going to lose anyway. So, it's lose, lose either way. You could do this another way. You could do it through soft power.
You could do it over a longer period of time. You could have maybe a joint arrangement where, you know, give concessions and allow them to develop and make money and be prosperous. But the United States is in such a whole politically and economically that they don't have time to do maybe what past administrations have done. So, Donald Trump has pulled the trigger in the most crazy way. And, and so, yeah, it's, um, I don't think it's going to, what he's doing, unless he's willing to go all the way. And if he does, that's, that's, that's the end of his legacy. And the United States will really, really feel the pain on many, many levels internationally and domestically. Then Donald Trump's not going to be able to cash all these checks that he's, he's written. And he does this every time. If you look at Ukraine, do you remember that was six, six months, seven, eight months ago? Oh, I've just got off the phone with Zelensky. It was a perfect phone call. We're taking all the minerals in Ukraine, you know, and the raw earth, you know,
they're not the rare earths with Trump. It's the raw earth, the raw earth, they're all ours. And then we're going to rebuild it and take all the profits and nothing, nothing has come of any of that, right? And I'm telling you, nothing will. And, but he got what he needed to, Donald Trump's interested in getting from June 1st to June 12th. And then it's from June 13th to June 30th. That's, that's how his administration has been running in the last year. Look at, look at the pace of bombing, the pace of audacious moves. It's just non-stop because the minute things calm down, then all of the sort of mold that's surrounding him will engulf his administration like the Epstein files as an example. And I'll tell you, there's probably a dozen more scandals that we don't even know about yet. Because this, I mean, I'm not, I'm not being hyperbolic or, you know, and, you know, I, full disclosure, I, you know, I'm not a Democrat. So I can't be called a leftist, crazy Donald Trump derangement syndrome. I'm like, no, this is the most corrupt administration.
It will be, history will reflect back on this, this particular term will be the most corrupt in the history of the United States of America without the next administration is nothing. Next, it's administration looks like it's a, you know, a monastery, you know, a Catholic monastery or a bunch of monks compared to the Trump administration. I mean, these guys are going for it. And it's worse because it's a one term. He is a lame duck. So everybody is at like sprint to take as much money. They've got scams running on stable coins that they want to implement is get me and get my family and get all of our friends as rich as possible. You have hundreds of clingers on that want positions in the, in the administration so that they can sell their book and have their podcast and get their board position afterwards. And, you know, time's running out. There's only three, you know, three years left and it's depoling is not looking good.
Donald Trump's lost the independence. They're gone, they're gone aggregate independence. It's 12 months, 12 months. He's under water for independence. So that you can't really win in the midterms, much less a national election in 2028 without the support of the independence. So this is not going to, it's not going to work. The Democrats are now re, re, re taking back the populist anti-war left position that it, that's in process now. And that's a swing. And that's going to, that's the, if, if the Democrats aren't really stupid and they, they could really capitalize on this. But I'm wondering if they're, you know, if they are smart enough to capitalize on it based on the fact that everybody in the Congress and Senate is pretty much on board with Trump's regime change operation, a save for maybe a handful of people. But everyone's terrified of this president. I, I can't believe it because it, you know, honestly, I would like to know
your opinion. Is it because they have nothing left in the chamber after 10 years of Russia gate or is it, is there, you know, is it like a mafia in D.C. Now, what is it? I do, I do think a part of it is that the Democrats really just used all the ammunition they had to push the Russia gate narrative. And now if Trump comes into office and they're immediately going after, not immediately, but within a year going after impeachment, then I, I think they are going to be, you know, sound, that, that isn't going to sound well with the American people. When that already hasn't worked multiple times in impeachment, hasn't stopped Donald Trump, you know, I, I didn't want to ask you about the Department of Justice indictment on Maduro because this is a huge part of what happened, right? And yesterday, this was Charlie Savage in the New York Times. So you had to take this with the grain of salt, Charlie Savage, of course, was responsible for the bounty gate hopes and all that. But he writes that where the old indictment of Maduro refers 32 times to
cartel de los soles and describes Mr. Maduro as its leader, the new one only mentions it twice and says like his predecessor, who you go, Chavez, he only participated in it. And then, you know, I just want to pull this up on the screen real quick. This was the captured poster that the Department of Justice put out after they turned Maduro and right on the top of that, it says, he was captured for being the leader of cartel de los soles. So what do you think about the U.S., the case that the U.S. actually has against Maduro? This hugely problematic because if the, the basis for the time of the arrest and, you know, the lead sort of accusation, the lead charge at the time of the arrest has been seen to be a fabrication. Then that's grounds for dismissal or, you know, basically the trial would be dropped potentially. It, it depends. But so they've done a work around and the, just to point out that Charlie
Savage story, what's extraordinary and, but not surprising about our papers of record is that what he doesn't mention is the cartel de los soles is basically a foundation of a CIA run network that was trafficking cocaine. From, you know, other countries like, you know, Ecuador or Columbia via Venezuela, using the Venezuelan national guard as mules with a U.S. puppet regime in Venezuela in the 80s and early 90s. And that's, that's what they're talking about. Of course, they don't give you that information in the New York Times or the Washington Post because there's probably a CIA person on the editorial desk that makes sure that it doesn't make it through in the final draft. But that's the irony of that. So they, they have exposed U.S. involvement in drug trafficking through this bumbled indictment. And I'm just wondering as Steven Miller is the Trump's chief legal advisor,
if it's really an absolute, you know, face plant, then I wouldn't be surprised it was somebody like him who a lot of people are questioning his legal background, his qualifications and his mental, his mental state. He's very unhinged. So there's a lot of crazy stuff coming out of the Trump administration. And to put something like that in such a high profile indictment, you know, a total fictional fabrication that's, you know, really a political conjuring up some political narrative and to lead with that. It's, it's, it's kind of shocking. And it may be it speaks to the incompetence and the sort of rank, mediocrity that you probably have. So I mean, look at what is the qualification to be in the Trump administration? You got to have a podcast. That's one. Fuck, you have to bend on Fox news in some capacity. I'm skies the limit if you were Fox weekend host.
You could be like head of the Pentagon, just imagine in charge of the one point two trillion dollar defense budget. But so, so the, so the indictment, there's a couple of other things in there. So that really also discredits the trend, pronounce this right trend, Dell, Arrogway, if I pronounced that correctly, that this supposed gang. So he's not, Maduro's not head of a cartel. So that's gone. So now he's what directing the gang. Well, there's already, there's already admission in the US own intelligence assessment, maybe Trump's own intelligence assessment, that there's, it's tenuous if any connection to this supposed gang. And a lot of the claims of this gang, and then we say he's taken over apartment buildings in Colorado. I mean, the source of that, a lot of that's coming from very shady internet people like Laura Lumer, believe it or not. And again, this speaks to the kind of, you know, low brow level of the Trump administration and some of the absolute
you know, just very strange, motley group of, of, of characters that are orbiting around the president. And some of them with very strong ties to Israel. So Israel is notorious for stove piping fake intelligence into the US system. And we only need to look at, you know, some of the testimonies from CIA veteran agents like John Karyaku, who could testify to, you know, the role that Israel has in obfuscating and flooding our intelligence system with garbage. And so not, not to mention spying on, on us, spying on US government officials and blackmailing people and stuff like that. So, but, but, so, so this, there's no fentanyl in there. The drug charge is nothing. The Southern District of New York, they could slow walk this 18 months, you know, 18 months and then where's Trump?
Where's, where's Trump going to be in 18 months? That's anyone's guess. He's not physically looking great at the moment. So, who knows? So he might not even face the music when this thing collapses. So I can't, even if you have a bent judge, I, I can't see any jury that is going to look at this credibly. And so I, but that, that wasn't the point. This, this was just a fabricated fake rap sheet that was, it was produced in order to justify what we're seeing now, which is a attempted heist, if you will, of Venezuela's oil, probably their golden silver as well, probably other critical lithium. And other rare earths, critical minerals there, strategic minerals. So, and there's a geopolitical angle, which we can talk about, you know, with regards to the oil and what's happening in the US economy wise.
So there's all sorts of things there. It, the bottom line, Kyle, is this is a, such a desk, an active desperation by the United States. If the US is the most powerful country in the world, like Mark Rubio and, you know, all these people try to remind us every five seconds that this is the greatest nation in the history of the, of the planet earth and, and, and the Milky Way, then if it's such a great headgemon, such a great country, why is it so desperate that it has to just fly in and steal resources from people? Mark Rubio will say on one minute, you see him on doing the rounds on face the nation and all these things, he'll say, we don't need Venezuela's oil. We've got plenty of oil at home, you know, but this is Venezuela's threatening our, our national interests. What, like, what is that? What is national interest? That's another term that's now replaced national security. And it made a lot of things that were previously verboten and illegal
or suddenly justified in order to protect the national interest, which nobody can quite put their finger on. That could be anything economically, politically. Defense, but so according to Rubio in this government, China buying oil from Venezuela is a threat to US national interest because it's happening in our hemisphere and Russia giving anything or buying anything. That's a threat as well as Iran. So basically, if you look at the, the, the non-aligned movement map, you know, over the last 50 years, the NAM movement, these are all NAM countries. Cuba, Iran, there's others to, I think, Algeria, Libya, South Africa, African countries. So what they, but they have to dress it up with lies. And the lie is that, you know, if we, we've, we've given China a black eye because China relied on Venezuelan oil, which is a complete fabrication.
And China only buys 5% of their oil from Venezuela. And there, the reason China is doing that, it's mainly out of solidarity. Obviously, China wants to have as diverse a portfolio as possible in terms of energy purchases, but it's to help Venezuela because Venezuela is under sanctions. They're under a very strict and brutal embargo. So China buying from them or Iran buying from them or Russia buying from them helps the Venezuelan people. And that's just a good thing to do from brotherly nation and to brotherly nation. And the United States wants to choke off Venezuela. So they have full exclusivity over other resources of, they can't buy, they can't sell unless it's from the United States. Do you see where this is going? Because, you know, absolutely. And this is really what, why, why we kind of want to wrap on you with is, I have been very concerned about regime change in Venezuela. Since Donald Trump said Marco Rubio would be his secretary of state.
And when people would ask me why I would have to say, well, it really doesn't have a whole lot to do with Venezuela. It has to do with Cuba. And unlike China, Russia, Iran, I do think Cuba is somewhat dependent on Venezuela and oil and natural resources. It's a, you know, a large country with a lot of resources that is near Cuba that can really help them out. And so, you know, is Cuba nets? Do you think that, do you agree with my assessment that this was largely about Rubio's desire to give regime change in Cuba? And then, are you concerned that either way that the United States could now really try to, to drop the hammer on Havana? Definitely, there's a, a domino progression. So, Venezuela, and the other reason is exactly as you're saying, Kyle, the other, the other thing they want to block is Venezuela, giving fuel to Cuba. And so, it looks like the United States is attempting to lay siege to Cuba
and lay siege to Venezuela. And the tackling Venezuela is going to be difficult, but they believe if they can make this embargo stop any fuel or commerce going in and out, then that's going to choke off Cuba. Now, Russia could come to the aid of Cuba. And then we have a repeat of the Cuban missile crisis, but it's not nuclear missiles that are coming by boat from Russia. It's oil, you know, it's fuel. And so, how's that going to look on the international scene? Because the United States has been pretty hands off Cuba. They've sanctioned them. They're, they're still strangling them and bar going them on, on trade and stuff like that, but it, it, it's not like coming up on the radar as a threat to the US in the last, uh, previous administrations. In fact, quite the opposite Obama was opening up relations with Cuba. So that won't look good and they won't be able to justify that internationally. So they're going to have to focus on Venezuela for a while. And the thing that concerns me, Kyle, about with, with, you have this very
unstable, desperate, quite, uh, reckless administration and, and it is acting like a criminal cartel. If you look at, uh, how major Republican Zionist donor, Paul Singer, who bankrolled Marco Rubio's, uh, career, uh, one of the biggest sponsors of Rubio from when he ran for president in 2016, uh, right through, um, he was given, uh, privileged, uh, you know, purchasing of distressed assets of, uh, sitco. And the reason sitco, uh, was being forced into bankruptcy was because the United States was sanctioning it. This was all done as kind of law fair and economic warfare combined to strangle, destroy the, the economy in Venezuela and the, uh, the, the, the petroleum industry. Um, so that was done. Uh, that was accelerated under Trump's first term, okay? In 2016, 2017, and the hammer dropped in 2018, uh, hard. In the United States, use that to, uh, repossess and to sort of steal, if
you will, uh, the Venezuelan PD, PDVSA assets in the US, the retail, uh, arm and business in the US. And then Paul Singer managed to scoop it up just by pure luck. Of course, uh, something that's probably worth 18 billion for like 5.9 billion. And somehow has been managed to, uh, lay a debt onto the people of Venezuela, uh, probably, uh, something like, you know, 20 billion somehow, um, and that, so push, push them into receivership. And now he's getting the Trump administration to play debt collector. So this is, this is like more than predatory capitalism. This is like a sort of mafia hit on a country. And Paul Singer is, is, is an, is an agent, uh, ostensibly by all intensive purposes is an agent of Israel. That, that's beyond debate, okay? The amount of, uh, he funds the IDF. He helps raise money for the, the IDF. He's into settlements, uh, all those charities and NGOs.
He's, he's, he's bankrolling and involved in all of them. So Israel is Paul Singer's number one priority. So Israel first and then America second. But only if America can do things for Paul Singer and Israel. That's the quid pro quo. So, so, so Israel has a lot to benefit from this, uh, heist of Venezuela. This, so US and Israel working together, not just stealing, uh, and this also helps Israel because look, uh, the, the type of heavy crude that Venezuela has is, uh, is applicable for, uh, military. Um, this is for, uh, naval ships for jet fuel for, uh, power plants, okay? Heavy, for lubricants for, uh, complicated engineering machinery. So it's, it's a different type of crude oil and, uh, to, so if you're planning a major protracted war, you need to secure, uh, this, uh, supply like this, ideally in your own hemisphere.
So I, that, that's another worrying aspect of this is that you have people in Washington at the moment. I, I personally believe there are people in Washington that are excited by, you know, certain ran corporation papers or certain think pieces coming out of the heritage foundation or the re-emergence of neoconservativism to believe that the United States, if they could trigger a third world war and win a third world war. So if that's the case, and if you look at what they have done to, uh, bait Russia, hitting its nuclear deterrent via Ukraine, three times, either over horizon radar, first, that was, uh, the first hit, the second was the long range nuclear bombers, which they did in June, why they pretended to be negotiating. They, they launched a sneak attack called Operation Spider's Web and then over Christmas, what happened last week, uh, or two, a week and two weeks ago, 91 drones attacking President Putin's residents, which also is a
nuclear command bunker in, uh, near Valdaya, I believe in Russia. And now we find out, uh, from the recent articles that, yeah, the CIA was aware of it. Trump's playing stupid, like he didn't know. So I didn't know, I didn't know. I didn't know that, well, you know, you see, so either Trump's lying and he didn't know, or the CIA doesn't tell the president, they've just tried to take out the Russian president. Either way, that these administration is, is, is quite frankly, uh, a risk to humanity, um, at this, and so they're, they're clearly trying to provoke Russia because they believe that somehow they can provoke Russia to do something that their counter attack or counter punch will be crippling for the Russian Federation. And, uh, I don't know, and the other thing, Kyle, is let's be realistic. I think we can all agree. We can all agree that if I, if I make the statement, this administration and their foreign policy is fully and 100% controlled by Benjamin Netanyahu's
office, if I make that statement, does that sound too outlandish at this point? No, it certainly has the most influence of, of anyone would be Benjamin Netanyahu and the Zionist in Washington. So if that's the case and, and Marco Rubio, 100% the same, okay. Marco Rubio is like a wall with Ukraine and Russia, which to me is odd for a US secretary of state. So instead, Trump has sent his, um, you know, a shady property dealer from Long Island and his son in law. Yep. Okay. And they don't even have positions in the cabinet. They are without portfolio. So like, so Russia is not really taking Whitcoff and Kushner seriously. It's to me because it, that's why Lavrov and his people have not been deployed to, to spend much time with them because the Russians are like, no, you need to send your official, uh, head diplomat. And that's Marco Rubio. So where's Marco Rubio been? Nowhere. That tells you Marco Rubio, uh, does not care about Russia, Ukraine.
Marco Rubio was installed in that position. And first choice for Mary Madelson, what I understand from what I've heard is that Marco Rubio was selected as vice president or that was the first, uh, selection for vice president. And then somehow that was, uh, rejected by Trump or the, the Trump team. And JD Vance was, uh, became the vice president. But Marco Rubio is 100% for Israel. And of course, as you said, Kyle, uh, for overthrowing the government in Cuba. So, uh, he doesn't really care. That's just, um, it's hard to comprehend that when you consider the Cold War history and the rivalry between superpowers and it's just a bit odd, uh, in this case. So, so I think the danger here, I think is that what, I mean, I, this might sound conspiratorial, but wouldn't, wouldn't Israel like nothing more than to see the United States and Russia like wipe each other out or really, really
damage each other because that would, then Israel would emerge as the dominant superpower, uh, in where it meets, meets West, uh, in the Levant. And they already have total leverage over the United States, but Russia's a problem for Israel geopolitically as is Iran, as is the alliance between Russia, Iran and China. So it's, I, I look at it in those terms, you know, Israel, are they happy with, uh, uh, uh, weighing Russia down in Ukraine? They've already benefited from that because the fact that Russia was saddled down so hard, uh, in Ukraine, uh, allowed, I think the, uh, government to be toppled in Syria. And that's a huge priority for, for the Israelis, um, and for, for the United States. So, but especially for Israel. I just add to that a bunch of Russian billionaires when the US sanctions hammer came down, fled to Israel. So I'm sure that had to be a nice influx of capital for the Israeli government and, uh, continue to encourage that kind of emigration of, you know,
Jewish Russians because the US sanctions is going to continue to be a boon to the Israeli economy, especially as, you know, they face increasing economic isolation on the world stage and also just the fact that so many of their young men and women have been committed to fighting a genocide all over the Middle East now for the past two and a half years. And Ukrainian oligarchs as well, clean and criminals and work criminals fleeing to Israel. So yeah, that's a good point. A lot of capital has come with, uh, those sort of big, big fish, if you will. So, um, yeah. So my, that's, that's a big concern for me is that the US and the US president is not really in control of foreign policy decisions. Um, and, you know, he's boasting that he, he was purchased by Mariant Madelsen for 250 million or, and Musk gave, you know, 250. There's 500 plus other Israeli donors. You're probably looking at 700 million truth being owned with all of
these, um, big special interest, uh, you know, or Israeli allied or Israeli, uh, funders for, for Trump. So it's, it's a, it's a big, this is not kind of unprecedented. This has happened so openly for you, for the, even by American standards. You know, we've always grown up in America. Oh, you know, Washington's run by lobbyists. That's a 100% true, um, different lobbies, but, um, to, to have one lobby or if one or two lobbies that are fully in control of the foreign policy decisions of a country like the United States. And also his Donald Trump's handler is Howard Lutnik. Everywhere you see Trump on the plane at the events, whatever you see, right behind the curtain or right behind him, just off camera is Howard Lutnik from Cantor Fitzgerald, um, and he is more or less, uh, in Israeli loyalist right there next to Trump, uh, and he is, you know, wild these ionists, well, you know, you saw his, uh, display at the Madison
Square Garden, uh, before the inauguration ceremony. I mean, it's kind of frightening. Um, it's even made Steve Miller look, Stephen Miller looked tame. So the, the, these are extremists that you have, you know, either ideologically, religiously, perhaps maybe not, maybe more ideologically and kind of also extremist capitalist. And I would even go further to say fascist. And I don't mean to sound like, uh, too hyperbolic or, uh, but it's, you know, Donald Trump mocked the Constitution, uh, on a Fox news interview and he's talking about Democrats criticizing his decision to, uh, abduct the Venezuelan president and he just laughed and said, oh, the Democrats don't, they'll never give me credit. There, there'll be, they'll be saying it was unconstitutional. What, how stupid they are. So, you know, you, you, you're really from an American point of view, you know, you really, I mean, I think most Americans, at least maybe, maybe not any more. I don't know, but we were all raised to believe that the US
Constitution was the sort of backstop or the, the thing that held America together in our institutions and that defined America. And that's why everyone would swear a note to the Constitution, uh, to defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic. But now it seems like people are swearing enough to Donald Trump. And, and any mention of any constraints, constitutionally speaking, whatever are just dismissed out of hand. And people are making up legal workarounds for pretty much everything. A lot of, a lot of power has been concentrated in the executive branch. I mean, that's a trend that we've seen for decades, right? And the, what, what the Democrats and the Republicans agree on is they're not against executive power, if you noticed, because they all inherit it. So they know if it's Gavin Newsom coming in or another Democrat president, they're going to, they're not going to relinquish any of that executive power. So imagine the executive power that Donald Trump has by this
tariff debacle, which has been a disaster for the US and the global economy. And also the military executive actions and things like that. The Democrats could also use those same deploying troops on the streets in America, clearly of a violation of posse commentatus on fundamental level. Violation of US law, constitutional law, international law, international treaties, extradition law, all these things have been wiped out by Trump. Total free speech, freedom of assembly, accusing students of being terrorists, clamping, you know, intimidating universities, pulling funding. If they don't stop campus protests, I mean, this is fundamental, this is a fundamental attack on the US Constitution. So if people are swearing in oath to their dear leader and they're dismantling the basis of the US constitutional republic, then I would say that's pretty damn close to fascism as you probably ever had in this country
in the United States. So and Donald Trump is the figurehead of that. And not to mention he's not respected, he is not intelligent. He is not a deep man. He doesn't read, you know, it's, it's, it's, I'm trying to find something good to say about him. But he doesn't have any of the qualities that you, that would be required to run a business or, you know, to be a mayor or to be a school teacher or something like that. He doesn't have any of these traits or attributes. So that's, that's a little bit worrying that people are swearing in oath to somebody like that that is clearly not in control as well as faculties. He's, he's, he's just being kind of, he's a TV star at the end of the day. He's an actor. Yep. It's like an older version of Zelensky. And he, he's really good. He knows how to get the zingers.
He knows how to control the media cycle. And he's really good at that. But the problem is that's also their downfall is because they're so erratic that there's no continuity and they're not, there's no consistency with the Trump policies domestically or internationally. And internationally, that's fateful. Because if you're not consistent internationally in international relations, requires a, a, a level of predictability in international relations. If you've studied this, you know, you know what that means. That means that a, a diplomat, an ambassador, a foreign policy, a create crafter has to be able to predict the behavior of nations. And if you can predict what governments and nations will do, then you can enter into treaties and agreements because there's an implicit understanding with your partners in diplomacy that you will be able to, you're, you're reliable
that you will implement and be true to whatever has been agreed upon. So those are traits that this administration doesn't have and will never have. And that's why they will never, they will never get a deal with the Russians in Ukraine. It won't happen. Not during Trump's term, because they, they don't have the ability to execute. What's required to, even a ceasefire deal, very complicated, a ceasefire deal, that could take like six months to a year to, to, if you did it properly, because you need contingency plans, you need a separate monitoring organizations, you need all of these things. Look at all the institutions that were born out of the Second World War, how much work that took for all the different countries to, to work together. Look at the JCPOA, that took two years. They ran nuclear deal. Of course, Donald Trump dismantled that in his first term under the orders of Benjamin Netanyahu.
But so they don't have, the US is agreement incapable. They do, the Donald Trump does not have the people that can execute and, and a deal or a treaty or, or even a ceasefire for that matter. So all they have is gunboat, gunboat diplomacy, intimidation, coercion with intimidation, threats, economic warfare, and sort of, you know, massive erratic shifts in policy and rhetoric, threats, tweets, memes. This is basically what, that's that, that's the currency of this administration. It's, it's photo ops, memes and perfect phone calls and casual meetings. And yeah, that's it. So it's, it's not going to happen. There's going to be, that's why I honestly, I don't, I don't think he's going to be able to pull off US oil companies taking over Venezuelan oil. I'm here. I definitely agree with that assessment of it. And Patrick, I think we are out of time for a day.
So I really appreciate all of your time on today's show. Absolutely fantastic interview. Love to have you back again. And everybody, please check out Patrick's work. I mean, he's on shows all over the place on YouTube. So you could check him out, but his site is 21st century wire. Any where else I should send people Patrick? I would say we could use some help on our YouTube channel because we're heavily suppressed by Google and YouTube. But that's 21st century wire TV. That's on YouTube. So you can drop a link in there. That would be awesome. And I'm on substack. I just started a substack page with some developing Patrick Henningson dot substack.com. Alright, fantastic. Gary, by the way, check that out. And Patrick, thank you for your time today. Cheers. Thanks a lot.
