For the NHL, it's March 14th. Here's what's happening. Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an update. Anaheim Ducks' defenseman and Captain Ratco Gouda's faces a five-game suspension after needing Toronto Maple Leafs captain Austin Matthews during their game on Thursday. The hit happened late in the second period at Scotiabank Arena, leaving Matthews with a grade 3 MCL tear and quad contusion that ends his season. The NHL Department of Player Safety ruled that Gouda's lead with his knee while trying to make a defensive play and he was fully in control. Officials noted it was forceful contact, not caused by any sudden moves from either player. Gouda's got a five-minute major penalty and a ten-minute misconduct, ejecting him from the game. Matthews did not return and the Maple Leafs confirmed Friday he will miss the rest of the season. His agent expressed shock at the light discipline, calling a phone hearing and five games insufficient for such a severe play. Gouda's a 14-year NHL veteran has a history with the league's safety department, including
four prior suspensions totaling 21 games, over $750,000 in loss salary. His last ban was in 2019. The teens meet again on March 30th in Anaheim, where Gouda's could return if the suspension holds. This season he has 45 penalty minutes in 52 games. The daily news now is presented by our sponsor. Playback. Press play. Let the pillow do the rest. Sound meets comfort. S-O-L-I-SOLYPILLOW.COM
