Green Party Faces Lawsuit Threat Over Suspended Candidates

0:00On April 30th, the Green Party's deputy leader, Mothin Ali, is pushing members to sue the party over suspending local election candidates hit with anti-Semitism accusations. This comes right before the May 7th Council elections across England, where the Greens are under fire for vetting issues. Party leader Zach Polanski admitted earlier this month that checking candidates is tough because of their huge membership boom. Still, he says he trusts 99% of them and calls the few problem cases no big deal. At a private meeting with the Greens for Palestine Group, Ali told three suspended candidates to get serious legal advice and launch a class action, lawsuit. He accused the party of skipping normal discipline rules with a fast track expulsion process meant only for extreme situations. Attendees included Mike Adderley, husband of TV star Nadia Sawala, suspended after comparing Israel to Nazi Germany. Others like Saika Ali and Ifat Shaheen faced heat for comments on government ties and the October 7th attacks.
