It’s sights, sounds, smells attacking your senses transporting you to another land. For this episode, we curated a lineup of cocktails that most of you should be able to make at home.

 

Beachcomber Era Traditional #1 - Navy Grog (1941)

3/4 oz. fresh lime juice

1/2 oz. white grapefruit juice

1 oz. Gold Demerara Rum

1 oz. Dark Jamaican Rum

1 oz. White Cuban or Puerto Rican Rum

1 ounce honey syrup (2:1 honey and water)

Tools: shaker, strainer

Ice: crushed

Glass: Old Fashioned

Garnish: mint sprig, lime wedge

Method: Shake, Add 3/4oz club soda, then strain into a glass with crushed ice

(Trader Vic’s version added 3/4 oz simple syrup & 1/4 oz. allspice dram in place of the honey syrup)

Traditional with a twist - Original Painkiller (1971)

Pusser’s trademarked their version of the recipe in 1981, and have been known to sue bars that attempt to sell versions that use different rum. The original recipe from a decade earlier called for a blend of Caribbean rums. If you’re afraid of violating trademark law, make the Pusser’s version. Otherwise, try the KicksPlayer version below. 1/2 oz. Gold Rum

1/2 oz. Blackstrap Rum

1/2 oz. Appleton Reserve

1/2 oz. LemonHart 151

4 oz. Dole Whip

1 oz. Orange Juice

1 oz. Coconut Cream

Tools: premium blender

Ice: crushed

Glass: balloon snifter

Garnish: grated nutmeg, umbrella

SIPS - 5

 

Mai Tai

1 oz (2 tablespoons) dark rum

1 oz (2 tablespoons) amber rum

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

1/2 oz (1 tablespoon) Cointreau or triple sec

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon orgeat syrup* or 1 drop pure almond extract

1 teaspoon superfine granulated sugar

Float of LemonHart 151

Garnish: an orange slice

SIPS - 5

 

Plantation Punch

3 or 4 ice cubes, plus crushed ice

2 ounces dark rum, preferably Jamaican

1 ounce amber rum

1/2 ounce aged rum, preferably Barbados

1/2 ounce Velvet Falernum (clove-spiced liqueur)

2 ounces unsweetened pineapple juice

1 ounce fresh lime juice

Dash of Angostura bitters

1/8 teaspoon absinthe, preferably Pernod

2 ounces chilled ginger beer

2 pineapple wedges and 2 pineapple leaves (optional) skewered on a pick, for garnish

1 1/2 oz. Ron Del Barrilito (Three Star)

1/2 oz. LemonHart 151 (float)

4 oz. FOCO Tamarind Juice

Glass: Old Fashioned

Ice: crushed

Garnish: Lime Wedge dredged in Tajín Clásico Seasoning
