Gold Coast school introduces double shift model

0:00A new private school on the Gold Coast is set to become. Well, apparently not the first, not quite the first, one of the first to offer a double shift model. The school will provide two learning sessions each day, the 7 30 AM to midday or 11 AM to 3 30. Parents of kids in prep to year two can choose which shift their child takes up. Rosanna, you do something similar in Queensland? Yeah, so we have a school here on the Sunshine Coast, but not for prep and junior school. This was for the high school, where you start in the junior school at 10 30 until 4. And then when you get to senior, you start at 7 30 AM and finish at 1. And allow seniors to get a job in the afternoon to have a longer session for study, those sorts of things, and it manages the traffic much more evenly around a really big and popular school. How short has the school day become? When we went to school, it was 8 30 to 3 30. I think there's no mention this. Well, on that it seems to have been cut in half completely. I worry for the parents, the ones that are working, that would be difficult to do pick up and drop off. And obviously where do the kids go when they finish the early shift? Are they going home? Are they going somewhere else? Yes, or is it a choice? Can you choose? If you go to one of these schools, is there something that works for you?
