Today is Saturday March 14th and this is your daily go birds morning update giving you all the Eagles news you need to know as well as what to keep an eye out for today. And thank you for spending part of your Saturday with me as we got a lot of Eagles news to go over. There were some rumors that came out on Friday that man oh man what a roller coaster day it was. It certainly seemed like AJ was going to get traded. It felt like it was happening. But now looks like it might be a little bit as we got two main pieces of news to talk about before we get into the rumors of where AJ could be going as well as a deep dive into where the salary cap situation is right now. So first let's start with what is probably the biggest news. Diana Rossini tweets out on Friday evening that the Eagles talk to the Rams on Friday and

3:08seriously had trade conversations. But as of now how we won't be trading AJ and if anything does heat up it will probably be closer to the June 1st date. Well if that's true and things could obviously change at any time then we got a long long way to go in this and the reason it felt like a deal was close on Friday is because Diana Rossini tweeted out that the Rams were seriously interested in AJ which we'll talk about in a second and it felt like things were heating up. Well that looks like it was either not the case or they did heat up and they were unable to get a deal done. But now we continue to wait and maybe AJ won't be traded. Maybe he will stay here. I still think he will. I still think he'll be gone. But man if the Patriots and Rams are both trying hard to get him and that's true and the Eagles aren't budging and how he must not be kidding around about that price tag. Well another thing to happen on Friday was Dallas Goddard pushed his extension date back on his void contract until Monday and a little background here basically

4:08Goddard's contract had devoid for him to become a free agent. As we know it was originally good to avoid the first day of free agency. They pushed it back to Friday and now it's being pushed back to Monday. What this means is the 20 and a half million dollar dead cap hit that the Eagles will incur when he becomes a free agent. The contract void hasn't happened yet. So Goddard in theory can help them trade AJ because if he continues to keep this cap space open then they can renegotiate his deal down from 20 and a half million against the cap and open up cap for Goddard that way or for an AJ trade that way. But now that an AJ trade seemingly is not happening anytime soon then maybe I don't really know why Goddard continues to do it. I guess he continues to do it to keep the Eagles open as a viable option. Maybe his market is not where he thought it would be and the Eagles are saying if you continue to negotiate if you continue to push this back we're more likely to bring you back. I know the Eagles have interest in David and Joku. He's not signed anywhere. I don't think it's a coincidence that it's quiet on his front too. So we'll see but

5:13yeah AJ doesn't seem to get traded soon. Goddard pushed his date back and we're kept waiting. Now I did record a majority of this podcast on Friday and on Friday early in the day and as a result now we're going to talk about all the possibilities of AJ going to the Rams the cap situation and all that good stuff. So we're going to keep that going but I wanted to make sure I had the the accurate information at the beginning of the pod since you liked your sense you spent time on Saturday with me listening to it. So as of now here we go. Okay let's get into the big news of the day on Friday as the AJ Brown saga took yet another turn with Diana Rousini who has obviously been all over this since day one reporting that the Los Angeles Rams are still interested in trading for AJ Brown. Diana Rousini tweeted this on Friday and then wrote an article about it as well. So let's start with the tweet and then I think there's some more context in the article. So

6:16first up Diana Rousini tweeted quote AJ Brown trade discussions are not dead. Last week I was told the Rams discussed trading for Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown before dealing for cornerback Trent McDuffie. Dialogue slowed but Los Angeles continues to monitor the status of the three time pro bowl or with interest. We'll see where both parties go from here and quote then in an article on the athletic by Diana and Rams reporter Jordan Rodrigo who does an awesome job. They wrote quote a league source believe the Eagles were trying to get multiple teams competing for Brown before free agency began but with an incredibly high asking price early on the receiver market moved elsewhere though with the Buffalo Bills trading for DJ Moore and New England signing Romeo Dobbs as free agency began the Rams continued to wait and monitor Brown's situation. The Patriots also engaged in trade talks about Brown with the Eagles before the start of the NFL's legal tampering period but no deal came together. Elliott Wolfe who spells it ELO ELIOT

7:18by the way shout out to him. Elliott Wolfe the team's executive vice president of Player Personnel told New England media meme told New England media members this week that there was no drop dead date for a potential deal quote I think the only real deadlines you have are salary cap related wolf said for instance did we spend money in free agency that would take us out of something else but I wouldn't say there's a deadline on trying to improve the team and quote so a lot to take from that a lot of new news and a lot of tea leaf reading to do so let's start with why does this come out and let me be a crystal clear about something I think Diana Rossini is one of the best NFL reporters in the game right now on a national stage like Shafter uh you know in Rappaport care of follow Jake Glazer like Diana Rossini is right there in my opinion and I'm just gonna do some tea leaf reading here so I believe this gets put out because AJ Brown's camp wants it to be known that he wants that uh that he that his name is still out there

8:21right the teams want him it's not only just the Patriots the Rams want him and that helps AJ because his name stays in the news now the Eagles would want this out there because it let's the Patriots know hey there's other teams involved here and that benefits AJ too if it pushes the Patriots to say you know what maybe we should get this done because an important aspect of this is that the Rams owned the 13th pick in the NFL draft now that is obviously an extremely valuable asset would they trade it for AJ I don't know but it's obviously a way better asset than the 31st overall pick so if you're the Patriots and you're sitting there and you're saying you know what no one else is in on AJ we can just sit here wait the Eagles will drop their price tag for what they want for AJ and we'll get him for cheap now the Patriots if they see this whether it come from AJ's camp whether it comes from the Eagles I would be surprised if it came from if like the heart of it is from the Rams I would think that they know because the Rams beat reporters in on this but I think it's out to put pressure on either the Eagles or the Patriots

9:23for the Eagles to put pressure on them for like do the deal and from the Patriots to say the Eagles might trade him to the Rams and I think this benefits AJ to have out there in the way that now his name is being talked about again and when a player once traded it benefits them to have everybody talking about it and yes it's being talked about and Philly all the time although to be honest it has died down a little bit but nationally now people talk about AJ to the Rams and what a perfect team to talk to him to talk about him going to because a they're already probably the class of the NFC I know Seattle won the Super Bowl last year but it's hard to repeat I personally think the Rams are better at the very least it's 50-50 but when you add in how tough it is to repeat the players the Seattle has lost in free agency I think the Rams should be viewed as the favorite to win to at least go to the Super Bowl out of the NFC and I think maybe the favorite to win it overall in the entire NFL so the idea of adding him to the Rams is just like a it's an exciting idea nationally it gets people to talk I know one response him go into the Rams is well why would he

10:24want to go there he wants the ball a ton well first of all I think if they traded a premium asset form he would get the ball a ton they throw it a lot now they run it too but you have Puka you have Devonte Adams who is older and misses time for what it's worth but if they got AJ they would get AJ the ball and if you're AJ talk about like almost the perfect destination now there's competition for the ball which is not ideal but he is used to that in Philadelphia but he gets to go with maybe the best quarterback in the NFL right now Matthew Stafford with the guy everybody views as the the top offensive mind in the league and that's a debate for another day but regardless that's how he's viewed and he gets to go to LA he gets to play like in Sofie Stadium which is a sick like everything is there for AJ other than having to share the ball but I don't think AJ's issue is sharing the ball with Devonte or sharing the ball with Sequon like I've never gotten that that that that um he feels that way what I do think AJ cares about is when he runs the route and the plays are supposed to go to him he wants the ball so if the Rams trade for him and they call

11:25nine plays for him and he gets it seven times instead of like three that's a huge improvement for AJ so while he has to share the ball in LA I think his main issue is more just just getting the play run correctly and I think sometimes Jalen can be trigger shy sometimes Jalen bails on the pocket and that's AJ's frustration so I do think the Rams make sense for AJ despite what people think now the question is the Eagles perspective of this so if you're the Eagles and let's just say the Rams offer you the 13th overall pick you got quite the decision to make because the 13th overall pick I mean there might be 50 players in the league and I'm being probably gracious there that would be worth the third like a top 15 pick I mean that is a premium premium asset so to get that for AJ after you know doing all this work to try to negotiate him into a high price tag and to not give in to some of probably the initial offers from the Patriots that would be

12:26really really hard to pass up you trade AJ you get rid of his contract you get rid of a player who doesn't want to be there and you bring in a player in the top 15 that will be cost controlled for really four years maybe five but at a minimum three years and should be a stud player like you look at who the Eagles have drafted in the top 15 Jordan Davis is obviously a really good player now took a little bit but he's a really good player Devante Smith has been awesome from the jump Lane Johnson Hall of Fame player if you want to go back to I guess this is prior to that but like Carson Wentz was awesome before he got hurt like the Eagles when they draft Jalen Carter obviously an unbelievable player when the Eagles have drafted in the top 15 they have mostly always hit on these guys so you're talking about trading AJ for a player that should be awesome for three years at a cost control thing you could not you really couldn't ask for a better trade offer than the 13th overall pick the issue is you are trading him to the Rams and the Rams are awesome already

13:29they are going to be very hard to beat next year already now Nick Nick does beat Sean McVey all the time like worth noting but still like you're making arguably the best team in the NFL better and that team is directly competing with you to go to the Super Bowl from the NFC so it would sting and it's not just a one year thing like Stafford's old but if let's I mean and I don't think it's crazy to think like the Rams get an awesome quarterback almost right away after Stafford now they'll be at a trade assets but you have McVey you can develop right like you might be looking at a two to three year window that you've given the Rams to be the clear cut class of the NFC now you have good secondary players VIX awesome all those things are true your defensive lines awesome maybe you draft someone at 13 that's better than AJ next year like we've talked a lot at Nazim about where AJ status is as a player but it would just be a tough pill to swallow to to give him to the Rams for the 13th pick if they did it it could be telling of what they think of AJ to an extent but it would be it would be really really hard to it be

14:31really hard to do now another potential like trade and I just made this up right like a hypothetical is maybe you ask for Byron Young and Ed rusher he's 28 he's got good sack numbers he's a really really good player and you get the second round pick number 61 right I don't think the Rams have many future first to trade I think that's a trade package where the Rams I would think would do it but I also think the Eagles you get back in awesome player you get the second round pick this is if they're not use you if they're not willing to trade the 13th overall pick clearly you'd prefer the 13th overall pick but if that's not even on the table Byron Young in the second round pick I think is interesting so should the Eagles do it should the Eagles trade AJ Brown to the Rams man it's a tough one if you get offered the 13th overall pick I think you have to do it and I am somebody if you've listened to this pod and if you have thank you very much that is said I do think there's a real chance that AJ could be back and be fine like I don't think he will be but if he is I kind of think he'll handle it okay I trust Nick to handle it I think Jalen is well aware

15:36of the AJ situation like I do think that it could be okay but the 13th overall pick I mean that could be again Jalen Carter Jordan Davis Devonte Smith Lane Johnson like a great great great borderline Hall of Fame talent for this team for five six seven eight nine ten years like it could be your it could be a guy for this team for a really long time so it would sting them to give them to the Rams it would create a roadblock for sure but the 13th overall pick you got to do it and then honestly like Stafford could get hurt and then none of it really matters right so I think that the the Rams being a barrier to the Eagles would not even happen until I guess the number one seed could they could be a barrier for that but I do think that this could be like this could be a problem for the Eagles but it wouldn't be until the playoffs in theory and so much could happen before then so I think I would take the 13th overall pick but it would sting to do and it was I completely

16:36understand everybody that would say it would hurt to see AJ in a in a Rams uniform so this feels like another by the way like earlier in the week we talked about how AJ's camp seemingly you know chef chefter said the Eagles don't want to trade AJ but AJ wants out which was one of the first clear time we've heard AJ wants out this feels like AJ's camp starting to you know turn the heat up a little bit and making it clear they won out and there's teams that interest that are interested in the Eagles are now you know have to make a decision do they wait and wait in the other aspect to this and look by the time you listen to this the the deadline will be over so you'll know is the Goddard part of it right like if Goddard is if Goddard's deal goes past midnight and he's not going to be resigned and there's that 20 and a half million dollar dead cap hit then maybe the Eagles seriously are going to hold on AJ but if you're going to use the money from AJ to sign Goddard you got to do it yesterday on Friday so yeah it's a really interesting time to uh to for the AJ thing and it feels like while there's

20:45that the eagles had around 12 million dollars in salary cap space so where are they now after all this let's dive in and see the best we can at least to where the eagles might be at now we got two peak key pieces of information on friday as we now have the jordan davis and michael carter contract details and both of these are according to spotrack so first up jordan davis as we know signed a three year seventy eight million dollar a deal with around sixty five million guaranteed we know that now according to the contract thirty nine million guaranteed it signing twenty five million more next march and this year he gets around twenty million dollars in cash so you know three years sixty five million practically that that's definitely coming his way and while that's awesome for jordan davis it's a lot of peloton bikes he can buy what really matters to eagles fans in in a way is the cap it clearly the cash they spent matters but the cap it in terms of figuring how much cap space they have is what's a little more important so jordan davis prior to this contract was slated to cost around twelve million dollars on the fifth year option now

21:48according to spotrack that's been cut by over half and it's now just five million dollars cap it so the eagles open up i think it's a little a little under eight million dollars saved in there in the cap so he's five million this year eight and a half million next year in twenty twenty eight his cap here is his cap hit is thirteen point nine twenty twenty nine uh eighteen point eight and twenty thirty forty forty four point five but there's no way that'll ever happen so really it's five million this year eight and a half next year in the twenty twenty eight it's thirteen point nine and then they kind of how have an out after that now there's probably still be dead money on the books in twenty nine and thirty but it really is a three year deal uh where they can cut in with minimal cap minimum cap cap damage so they can cut him after three years with only seven million dollars in dead cap and that's what makes it the three year sixty five million dollar deal now as i said only twenty six and twenty seven are fully guaranteed but the twenty five point five million at twenty twenty eight becomes guaranteed on the third day of the twenty twenty seven

22:50league year which makes it essentially guaranteed because they're not going to cut him after one year so he's going to be here for twenty six twenty seven and uh in twenty eight it's not going to be uh difficult to cut it's it's good i think he'll be here until that basically now with the cap they as i said they save the around eight million dollars so they go from twelve million where they were at and we'll start with there and then we'll kind of move around you add eight so now they're at twenty right so then you go to Michael Carter Michael Carter was set to count ten million dollars against the book he renegotiates that it is number comes down to around three million so they move they they save around eight million dollars in salary cap space by moving on from or by restructuring Michael Carter's deal and we've talked on this pod you know this pod not this exact one about Michael Carter potentially being a safety competing there like he'll compete in training camp but regardless this saves around eight million dollars of cap space so they go from around twelve to around twenty to around twenty eight with Jordan Davis and the Michael Carter

23:51restructures now they have handed out deals right Johnny Munt i'm going to guess is around a million dollars in a salary cap hit Jonathan Jones is probably around a million dollars in a salary cap hit Arnold ebike ebike t might be a little bit more might be two you know two and a half something like that but let's say all those players combined are four million dollars in cap space that brings them down to around twenty four million right twenty eight eight yeah twenty four million dollars now they're at around twenty four million dollars the things we don't know yet though our land in Dickerson's restructure which according to Adam Schefter is going to open space and we don't know the tyre equivalent breakdown my guess for tyre equivalent will be around five million bucks they'll probably take his contract have it out over three years and do what they normally do so let's take let's say call us around five million dollars let's say land in Dickerson's restructure opens up somewhere around five it could be seven it could be eight could be six but let's just say five to be conservative so those two kind of even each other out right so with all that being said

24:51they go from twelve they open up eight with Jordan Davis that brings them the twenty they open up another eight with Michael Carter that brings them to twenty eight and then you add in again the four million for all the new guys that's twenty four and you break it even with land in Dickerson the tyre equivalent i think they are around twenty four twenty five million dollars in salary cap space which is a lot a lot of space and also we're noting that it would if they traded a j and this is you know i'm sure it's a little more complicated this but if they have around twenty five million dollars in cap space they trade a j they lose twenty three million dollars in cap space so they would be above water if they were able to do it it would be close and they'd have to do some other things but they'd be above water and then of course there's a Dallas Goddard situation which by the time you're listening could be handled he's going to count twenty and a half million dollars in dead money on the books if he's not here if they resign him there's an opportunity to really open up a ton of space there like another sixteen million dollars or whatever so there's that possibility but right now i would say there are around twenty five million dollars in salary cap space and the

25:54Jordan Davis contract you know financially is is a pretty good one like i said they are the he's going to be here for three years but you look at the salary cap break the dead cap hit they're not going to cut cut him this year obviously because that be a huge cap it they're not going to cut him next year obviously barring something crazy but they could cut him in twenty twenty eight for eleven and a half million dollars in dead money that's not terrible so it could be a two year deal and then in twenty twenty nine uh they could cut him for seven million dollars in dead cap and they could absolutely like do that no problem so i think he's going to get the three years of money he'll definitely be on the roster for two years my guess is ninety nine percent he's on the roster for three years but then after that they'll have to make a decision on on what they want to do so yeah around twenty five million dollars in cap space but hopefully a lot changes because we all want the Eagles to make moves and that mean it will impact the cap so thank you for spending part of your Saturday with me go out enjoy the rest of your day until then he's Elliott i'm James talk you guys later monster energy everybody knows white monster zero ultra that's the OG it kicked
