This is Corey, with the story, with Global News Today, powered by the Daily News Now. A college freshman named Elizabeth Bradley felt out of place as the only woman lifting weights at her university gym, surrounded by guys. That common intimidation keeps many women away from free weights, sticking to cardio instead. But with strong evidence showing resistance trainings perks, experts urge gyms to adapt and draw more women in. Both guidelines from the National Institutes of Health call for everyone to do strength exercises like weights, bands, or pushups at least twice a week. These build muscle, cut hard disease risk, boost mobility, and draw blood pressure. Women often gain extra protection against bone loss and age-related weakness. Plenty of women share Bradley's early doubts from feeling stared at to juggling family duties. Mothers especially value home workouts or classes like Pilates, but many crave strength gains without the hassle. Gym vibes heavy on bodybuilding culture can turn them off fast.

Bradley bounced back by starting a women-only lifting club called Girl Gains. Now with dozens of college chapters nationwide, women only gyms an on-site child care help too, creating safe spots for focus and community without distractions. As more women build strength together, they're proving lifting compliments running, yoga, or any fitness goal, paving the way for healthier, bolder. Proteins across the board.
