Gerry Adams Lawsuit Dropped: Victims' Quest for Justice

0:00On March 20th, a civil lawsuit against former Sen. Fane leader Gary Adams has been dropped. The case stemmed from three IRA bombings in Britain, including attacks in London and Manchester back in 1973 and 1996. Victims had accused the now 77-year-old Adams of direct responsibility for their injuries. Lawyers for the claimants announced the discontinuation on Friday, ending months of legal proceedings. Adams had faced claims for just one pound each, and symbolic damages from three men injured in those blasts. The victims raised more than 100,000 pounds through crowdfunding to fund the effort. They made it clear they were fighting not only for themselves, but to represent all those hurt by IRA violence during the troubles. Adams has always denied any role in the bombings, or being a key IRA figure. He was once charged with membership in the group in 1978, but that case collapsed for lack of evidence, and his earlier convictions were later overturned.
