Georgina's Tragedy: Hospital Care Reviewed

0:00On March 24, Georgina Lewis, a 34-year-old woman from Radcliffe, died on March 19 at Southward Royal Hospital after a suicide attempt. Earlier that week, at the Irwell Unit in Fairfield General Hospital, her sister claims they were care failures leading up to the tragedy, and the case has been referred to the corner for an inquest. Georgina had battled mental health issues for years, stemming from childhood trauma after she and her sister were removed from their biological, parents due to abuse. She spent much of her adult life in and out of hospitals, with her longest stretch outside being just six months. Her sister Jade Pryor remembers her not for the struggles, but as someone who always put others first, generous even when she had little. Jade says the hospital should have stepped up observation from hourly checks to one-on-one after warning signs on March 16. Now, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the unit, says it's deeply saddened and working with the family on a full patient safety review.
