I was telling you I'm telling you that because I had an epiphany last night. What's that? Like those little girls like from the time I sat down to like the seventh inning they screamed at a drop of a head and a lot of the screams they had they were with their parents they were like real screams right they were like yeah yeah and and it made me realize

1:00something what's that that I can't scream anymore and and and and it's it's funny right because I was thinking about as you get older some of the things you you remember or you forget that you can't do that when you hear somebody would you if you're reminded that you can't do that because they yelled on cue whenever they wanted to at the top of their lungs and they were screaming loud and last night I was trying to you know doing a impression of them and when I did it I hurt my vocal. Oh no we can't have you. Doug was hurting his vocal cord for week one but the point that I'm making is this I was I admired the fact that they were able to scream whenever they wanted to. Well it's the only time they should have been screaming was at the Phillies based running last night which was a troche. I think they didn't they didn't see that but every time the camera was on and or whatever they were just screaming to the top of their lungs. Yeah all right we'll get to the Phillies other than the little girls screaming into Hughes year last night the nonsense. True nonsense of the base running last night. 2:02season. We're here for a reason we are here for Raleigh and Rursford and we're here to talk about the birds and the outlook of the season. Ray Ditter Joob will join us in the 12 o'clock hour Elliott after Eagles practice today. We got a lot to discuss including something happened contractually NFL yesterday that's really is all right so here's you I have to ask a question. You got to have to say something along with the question. Well see now now I'm starting to wonder if because everyone knows I'm about to say Kyle just drop the audio so I didn't say it out loud to everyone on listening. But Hugh I was reading this morning sports illustrated had their predictions for the season. Yes. They had eight experts predict the NFL postseason like pick all the 14 teams to make it and you know pick a wins a suit bowl and you know I and I expect to see a lot of Rams right Rams win the suit bowl C Hawks right those the best teams last year I get that. But Hugh I noticed of the eight experts that picked the postseason. Did how many picked the Eagles to just even make the playoffs out of the eight? Two two two at eight I guess right. You know you nailed it. You nailed it. Two out of eight and you know what I made

3:04me thank you. What's that? Well made me think like we've been we've been saying a lot of things all off season but I don't think we've put them together as a fan base. So what have we been saying all off season man the NFC's looks like it got better right the underbelly got better. Do we talk about how the Cowboys look like they might be a legit threat of okay so the NFC's got better the Cowboys look like they're a legit team so I think we have a race in the NFC's. We also I think recognize there's a lot of good teams in the NFC right the NFC West had the two best teams at pro football last year the Rams look like they got better see how it's going to be really good the 49ers are good we know the North has some good teams with Chicago who emerged last year to show me okay so there's probably gonna be there it will not be easy to be a wildcard so Hugh that has led me to to realize that I don't think the Eagles are a lot to make the playoffs I haven't felt this way in about five years they they have felt like a lock to me for four or five years just to be in the playoffs whether it be a high seat or or wildcard whatever and Hugh I wake up today as we're about to start the season and I think it's more of about a 50 55 percent chance like I think they have a

4:05good shot but not an overwhelming shot to make the playoffs I think they're going to be right there with three or four other teams battling for either the East with the Cowboys or a wildcard spot with Chicago Detroit Seattle whatever so I go into the season we have a lot of question marks on the offense we have a lot of question marks on the team no way Jay Brown Hill Day but for the first time in a long time I don't think they're a lock to even make the playoffs Hugh or the Eagles a lock to be playing in the middle of January yes all right why because they have to no no no no no no you know like they have to I need a reason first of all Cal back above me no but you know what because I feel like this team's roster like when you go into this season yep your first your first goal is to win the division right yes and I still think that even though the Dallas Cowboys got better the Eagles are still the class of the NFC by a lot by the East and the East NFC East by a lot or a little by by slight margin okay all right but I feel like because

5:11when you talk about the offense for the for the Cowboys is pretty decent they've been why I think it's elite they've been pretty decent and that is that looks like he's a leader he's turned into a leader that that defense last year they had a stretch with even when they got read a mica they had a stretch when they got Quinn Williams where they look like they were going to be a contender and then they kind of fell off so they're going to be better but they got to do I think they got a new coordinator now that's part of the game yeah so it's going to take a while for them to jail I feel like I'm really leaning on this defense to heavily carry us through carry water for us through these tough times that we're going to be in but with that being said we still have a quarterback who's been in this who's who's been familiar with this this head coach for a while we still have some some surfaced offensive linemen we still got to say quam barkley tank bids be look like he's look he's poised to take another leap in that offense so I just feel like as far as the veteran leadership on this team we have that over the Dallas Cowboys just a slight

6:14is the giants are going to be better no question about that but the Commodore's I think they're going to take a step back I don't think that you know their preseason you know what's funny when I think of preseason and how much we don't put up a whole lot of stock into it and the Commodore's got smashed in preseason quite a bit uh I feel like they're going to be a team with especially with their office line being heard Larry Thompson being banged up or being out I should say that they're going to struggle offensively for a little while I agree with you I don't got under the commanders for much I think they're the worst team in the division but I think we don't agree the division top to bottom is probably better than it has been in a while right you know the giants have been a joke for a while they're they're probably going to be better than a joke with Harbaugh and the cow the cowboys to me are the thing that changes the conversation I mean like if the cowboys think and the Eagles could just win this division then we just start there but to me we have a division race and if there's a division race I think then you have to start thinking like all right if we don't win the division are the wild cards clearly available and I look at the north of Chicago and Detroit and then the west with Seattle and the race you might have what you got Chicago emerging you got Detroit

7:18in that division of course of course even and what green babe might be a container might be I think they take a little step back with Parsons her for a lot of the season to start off but but wait you throw them in I mean they've been a playoff team got three teams that that are going to be five well well guys there's only seven spots right and one of the spots goes to the south automatically right just one of those teams I think there'll be more Orleans wins a division so that means there's six spots for all these good teams you know last year the Detroit Lions coming off a 15 win year the year before they felt a nine and eight and missed the playoffs so it to me it ratchets up the sense of urgency that I have for the Eagles Sunday they have to win that game like the every NFC game becomes huge I don't think this team for the first time in years it's a lock to make the playoffs but we'll figure out if they could win the football and get there when they get there but I think the number one thing is are we sure they're going to make the playoffs two one five five nine two ninety four nine four all right you are the elephant in the room they'll have to before we get Kyle's take on this well because you know the guy that's playing tonight was a big part of the reason they made the playoffs all these years that he was their number one option in the passing game it was a huge play player and I didn't want him here in America's he didn't want to

8:20be here anymore that's fine we're all done with AJ Brown I'm rooting against him but he's not here now we're brown yeah well it's fine but he's not here and that in my opinion lowers the ceiling on this particular team and maybe even changes their floor which used to be 11 wins I'm not sure if it's that anymore two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four we're at McGurkson Roars for the rally in Roars for it all right are the Eagles locked to make the playoffs let's start there we got a lot to talk about today but there's always kind of a baseline of where we start the season is this team a lock Kyle felt like we haven't had one of these conversations in years is are the twenty twenty six Eagles a lock to make the playoffs so lock is is strong like if I had to bet on them make the playoffs I would do it but I can't say they're a lock when like I don't I'm not sure ten wins gets you in like I can't be certain of that so like do I think the Eagles are going to win 11 games I that's what I have them projected as but would I be surprised if they won one fewer no so like I can't say they're a lock I also don't even think they're necessarily a lock to win the division like I think the Cowboys got a lot better this season I don't know how much better

9:23the Eagles got than last year like I think it's pretty similar there so I don't know like I've 10 wins 11 wins 11 wins can maybe win you the division but you know I can see the Cowboys win 12 games 13 even like unfortunately so if I don't think the Eagles are even a lock to win their own division then I can't just go and say the Eagles are a lock to make the playoffs I can't either no I know and that's I think that's it like you know if we think they're going to win somewhere between nine and ten games if you're in that camp that's where I'm at I'm in that camp that to me is borderline like that might be again Detroit last year miss out on a on a playoff birth by a tiebreaker I think there's going to be a good team in the NFC maybe it's the Eagles maybe it's San Francisco maybe it's Chicago Bears I don't know but someone's going to win nine or ten games and not be in the playoffs that to me that adds a sense of urgency every game and how they got to get moving fast I don't think they're a lock where do you come down 215 592 94 94 live today at the rally and worse for the McGurks pop and grill the best seat on Sunday is that McGurks did you remember life for less than four bucks NFL Sunday ticket I can't wait it footballs back it starts tonight night we'll talk

12:33playoffs yes I for the first time in five years I don't feel they are I think Kyle framed it well like would you bet on them to make it yeah you look on Calcie right now it's about a 60 40 yes that they won't make the playoffs but but that's you know to me it's probably closer to 55 45 I think this is going to be one of those years where it goes down to the final week of the season possibly for the division possibly for a wildcard I don't think they're a lot I think their floor has changed without a J Brown who will watch tonight for the first time in a different uniform let's hear Roger Worcier before we go to the phone lines here on the state of the team and the division which has certainly changed a lot in the last couple of years here's Charles with the morning show well first thought I think the NFC East is going to be a lot tough for the show I don't I'm not seeing patients per se as I like to say when the girls have downed so I think it's going to be a little bit tougher within the division um we'll talk about that down the road job right I think it'll make it a little bit tougher and I got the Eagles win in 10 games 10 games and let me ask you this which team do you think gives the Eagles the biggest threat in the division but there are no doubt I hate to say it to Dallas Cowboys are they very good

13:37they're all pages good as any football talent perspective very very good the defense is obviously at a at a meltdown last year lost a lot of their players but I think they've restructured their defense they will be a lot better this show I think they'll be the team that will challenge Eagles this season here if jose is correct on his prediction there of the win total that's that's not a lock I mean 10 wins yeah you need at least three more of those things if you want to you know I don't know about three well I'm 13 11 makes the playoffs I'm talking about I'm talking about 13 to be dominant to to be tall yeah no I understand dominance I'm just saying to make the playoffs I think 11 11 feels like the number if you win 11 games with seven playoffs spots you're probably gonna make the playoffs yeah and you got to like that game against the Cowboys man those games against the Cowboys they're probably gonna be the crucial wars because the Giants are gonna be formidable I don't I don't buy it you know thing the Giants are gonna be for I think the Giants are gonna be better coach Joe now well well I mean they can't be worse coach well well yeah yeah but you know with that the the grit and the the coachability that they're gonna display I think that's gonna

14:41be harder to beat them because when I think of the Giants I think of mistakes that were made in crucial games that they lost they lost a lot of crucial games a lot of close stakes yeah they were a four win team last year here I think they're seven or eight wins but you can say formidable you think they're a playoff contender well no I'm just saying they're gonna when I say formidable I don't think they're gonna be a cake walk I agree with you on that I just might issue with them as I think they're quarterback and suspect well he's kind of a dummy I mean isn't he the way he runs into the walls and he gets hurt all the time in the blue 10 I just I don't I don't dummy dummy strong well I mean he plays like a dummy to me to me that Dallas is foreign away the threatened division the Giants yeah no question it will be better the commanders probably gonna be the worst team in the division and I think that's a nice soft landing for us in week one but the Cowboys are in I mean that that's the team I look at and say you know if they if their defense jumps a middle of the pack all of a sudden things become challenging in the division you know I'm looking last year just quickly at the standings if anyone missed the playoffs with 11 wins I think if you win 11 games in

16:46nothing but listening he has made the playoffs every year that he started a season to the end him and Cereoni they don't miss the playoffs no matter if they win in division or not they don't miss the playoffs is never down to the wire situation with them other than the first year what a team wasn't that good yeah okay but I think this is the more of the playoffs his four is the playoffs not I don't agree with that I think the I the first year Clendell I think this year could be similar to that one I don't think they're going to start off bad like that year but I think 9 10 right on the bubble that that could happen this season yeah but Jalen hurts with his new offense the way that they doing this new zone run scheme I think it's going to really help him it's going to open up a lot of things for him he doesn't have a guy crying in his ear every other game complaining about targets so he's going to be able to spread the ball around play point guard what he usually do he's used to playing with talent and now that you're giving him a scheme that's going to help him also get guys open he's just going to will and deal I think that Jalen hurts

17:51will have a MVP type season this year MVP you know and like I've the league of the league of the league yes not the fantasy league no just one more league just one of the NFL of the NFL okay he's going to get more credit this year because more credit he's not going to have AJ Brown so they're going to say you had a dear weight so I'm telling you so clando I I like the idea of it not age and not being in his ear and him just to shriving the ball but there's also lesser talent at wide receiver like that those two things kind of counteract each other yeah but at the same time you heard it with the yeah but you had it with the yeah but when you you're a quarterback and you had to deal with that type of situation for a good majority and you was able to still win now that you're free and clear and you know that the people beside you actually are all in fighting for the same mission instead of stats you know guys play for each other more and guys want to make plays

18:53for each other more and Jalen this offseason you know he's been standoffice but this year you've seen a lot of him with all his past catchers going out on his scurs and stuff like that I think they're gonna they're gonna really fight for Jalen this year they're gonna show up for him this year other than didn't I was last year when it was a mutiny in a locker room well that's true yeah that's true I mean I you clando you're right on that and I do think there's gonna be a better vibe around there already is I mean you you kind of felt that training can't play for you yeah and and look I think that I think there is a benefit to aging up being here from that perspective with Jalen clando good fun guy I agree I mean you his point is well taken I agree with it I think Jalen can play freer and just go through his reads and hit the open guy the only thing is like is the open guy good is the open guy going to make the catch is the open guy going to make the catch and run for 20 or not right like that guy used to be AJ yeah and now that guy is they TAVI on wix so I think is is solid and an interesting trade and and I like the trade it's my Kai lemon who we don't know it's Darius Cooper who's a wonderful camp story yeah he came up and played he had a hell of a camp

19:56no question but again it's too great camps we got to see him doing in the regular season it's Hollywood Brown who probably was yeah last good two years ago three years ago so I think there is something to this you that Jalen could play freer but will those guys make plays for him the way AJ did yeah I feel like it's going to be by committee you know and it's probably going to be week to week thing where somebody's going to step up every other week or every week I should say and it be a different guy but that all depends on on how the quarterback sees everything man and what position they put him in to be successful what I believe they can do it I definitely believe they can do it I'm just I'm trying to find the path to dominance and the defense is it right the defense yeah that that's okay that's probably the way you see it most people see it you know playing it close to the best into this offense you know spreads his wings if you will and and finds his footing I think you're gonna have to you're gonna have to rely heavily on the defense defense defense gonna have to carry a lot of water first couple a couple weeks of the season did it feel like we're putting a little bit too much on the defense staff can I can I can I say this when it comes to

20:59that feels like a lot to ask can I can I can I say this when it comes to that as as a former defender you love moments like that because offseason long you talk they the offense has been talked about right sure the offense has been the the the offense is always the key to everything when you talking about football and what people want to focus focus on I can tell you as a defender it there's times where it feels a little disrespectful you know I mean especially when you're talking about a with a really really good defense system really really good defenders I remember we're in a forgot what playoff room but Donovan went down then we had Koi was playing quarterback was it okay I think it probably wasn't then AJ Philly was playing quarterback bottom line is I remember vividly how Joe Banner was sitting in their crime and I might be a little bit hyperbolic when I say it was crime but I remember this is a good hyperbolic story well but I remember when he was in there and he was like oh my god what are we gonna do you said you said AJ was just as good no Koi was playing he said you said Koi was just a good

22:01as Donovan did it like he is having a meltdown right he is melting down and I remember sitting there and I was a little perturbed and I was like don't we got this don't worry about it we got that and as a defender I would think that those young cats are feeling the same thing they know that that offense is a working progress they're optimistic about what it's gonna be but at the same time that they're they have to work out the kinks you know and you look at the defense side of the ball hey man we got you until you get it until you get to you get right yeah well and I think the first couple games of the season that should be fine I got it look the commanders are not a very good thing okay well no what no I'm I'm gonna be no because when you you talk about playing them right are you worried about the commanders game no no no I'm talking about oh the commanders is a warm-up in my mind whoa yeah the vision game that's a warm-up that's a warm-up you're gonna lock no are you guaranteeing a victory on fun stuff can you allow me to gather my thoughts just ask you just give me like two seconds just sounded like a guarantee you know what I hate you ain't

25:07it I got to think about yeah so on the menu man I'm more I'm more on your side Joe I'm feeling a little tentative about our playoff chances this year obviously a lot of it hinges on the progress of the offense but I do want to share it like reasons for optimism at least in the first four weeks and tie store defense and our ed rushers I'm going to read you the tackle pairings of our first four opponents and tell me if any of them scare you because in tin branding Coleman just Connery didn't war jc lathe the montennancy nope Braxton Jones Darnell Wright on Chicago granted Darnell Wright was a second team all pro last year yeah right good but yeah the left tackle's I'm not great okay so not that scared any rams are and for as good as the rams are their tackles may be the worst of a lot a lot of rick jackson and Warren the clendon so yeah and by the way Jackson Jackson's in some trouble I don't think he's on the commissioner's exemplest but he had a I think it may have been domestic issue in the off seat so I don't know I don't know if he's going to be suspended so he they may even have their backup ed because you know depending on

26:10whatever happens with him so you're that's a great point I mean this should be an early opportunity for jalex hunt to feast early this season yeah and I think the biggest and even with as better the cowboys have really improved a lot of areas they can still be run on I mean yeah they're the biggest threat in terms of quinine Williams and who's the other guy Kenny Clark but with that zone run scheme I'd be in should just like they're not they're not Chris Jones they're not you know they're not game records they're good players but so I think they're biggest threat I mean the biggest threat with the cowboys is going to be their edge rushers which could be a problem but as long as jalex gets the ball out nice and quick which we all expect him to do wink wink shouldn't be a problem yeah well I think it's a great it's a great point on the on the tackles though I mean because we need the defense of carriers early and ed you right I mean when I think about the game this just this weekend against the commanders the reason the Eagles are going to win this

27:11game is they should dominate that command that that commanders offensive line I mean the Carter and Davis and Ojomo and and and they should be in the backfield all day they should prepare some quarterback yeah I'm saying like seven or eight facts I mean they made seven yeah I think they'll clear out the game but yeah I bet five dollars on it you have about that you know what that's a compliment that here you put five on the Eagles on Sunday Ed good phone call about our bed now I'm not doing it now a little rich for your blood I'm loaded to my shoes too much five I think that you got the gold gel I got my toe in that thing before I you know start bed and bed and all willy milley yeah seven sacks is for the first game of the season seven sacks feels a little rich yeah that's heavy that's heavy especially because you know Daniels can run he'll get away from some of them but but I do think that is it's a good point by Ed I mean the defense is going to have to be the driving force early with that question and the the the real thing is how quickly will the offense catch up and will it I mean there's just an expectation the offense is going to be good eventually I don't know I mean here I don't know how good the offense is good

28:14I think it will end up better than last year because I don't know how you get worse than the the worst three and out raid in the NFL but yeah is it is it is it is it is it can't be it can't it can't look no worse than it did last year man and I know that that people say you know I always talk about it wasn't that bad but it has to be more efficient and you look for I think I think it's important especially early on it's to look for small small wins when it comes to this offense getting in out of huddle oh hold on no wait can I get from in and out of the huddle this is pro football before you jump all over me Joe yeah procedural things have to be button up in the first preseason game it wasn't like that and that wasn't even the starter so I I didn't mean to jump on you for you to take but but no but if they have trouble getting in at the huddle it's on seriani because he chose not to play the starters in the preseason well it he's responsible yeah I mean if they come out Sunday I don't want to hear it's the first game I'm gonna do it like if they have incompletions or it's a turnover because they're they're not in the right spot I'll

1:31:10to say smooth transition because there's obviously going to be there's a tremendous amount of change here you I mean you understand it I mean you've been out you've been out to train it camp you guys were out there watch practice and this isn't like they're just tweaking the offense a little bit I mean this is like a whole new playbook and it's not going to be where you want it to be on Sunday I mean there's too much change too many different things to implement in this period of time so at the start of the year they're going to have to work through some things and they're going to have to find their way in this new offense I think it helps them that they have two very winnable games to start the year with like Washington at home and then at Tennessee that gives them two weeks a bit of a soft landing here where I think they can work some things out and then be better by the time they go to Chicago and then of course when you play the Rams but that's I think that if you look at the philosophy that Manion has brought here and what he's asking these guys to do it really is kind of the direction of the whole league I mean this is kind

1:32:13of where everybody's going is this kind of thing heavy tight ends outside zone running a lot of motion a lot of deception a lot of the things they didn't do last year they're going to do this year and it's kind of the way if you look around the league and how are the Rams playing how are the Niners playing how are the Lions and the Bears they're really good offensive teams they're all playing this style of football and that's where the Eagles are going I think it's good I think it's healthy my only question is how quickly can they put everything in place and be up to speed initially it's probably going to look a little they're going to be some bumps in the road but I think that by the middle of the year if they start to fall into sync I think they're going to be pretty dynamic right what do you think the biggest challenge going to be for Jalen Hurts in this new offense I mean Jalen's had a lot of different coordinators and he's adapted all them but like you said this is the biggest philosophical change and this is the way they're doing things oh yeah like people point to over the middle and he's had actually some success or no he just hasn't done it much right if he's kind of avoided that area of the field this offense seemingly uses that a lot more what do you

1:33:14think the biggest challenge for him going to is going to be early this season a lot of them Joe I mean it's it's multi-level I mean you're asking him to run something that he's never really run before but initially the biggest adjustment it's just going to be under center is he's just I mean if you go all the way back to high school and all the way through college and then this far in the NFL he's always been a shotgun quarterback and now if this offense comes out looking like I think it's going to look he's going to be under center a bunch and that's going to be a different game you know that all the footwork is going to change the timing is going to change he's going to have a feeling sometimes that he's got he's turning his back to the defense which is going to not going to be comfortable for him at first but I think overall it's going to be a good thing I mean and you talk about the throwing over the middle using the middle of the field if this team does what I think it's going to do which is use a lot of pre-snap motion moving guys around the formation well you can get some of that traffic out of the middle by just motioning them out of

1:34:16the middle clear it out for and create some space to throw the ball it makes easier throws for him I mean there are ways for him to settle into this offense and you know I think that one thing was seen with Jaylen Herzler out his career is he rises to the challenge he really does and last year was a tremendously frustrating year for everybody but particularly for him a lot of people blamed him for things that weren't really his fault and I think that you know he's coming back this year feeling like he's got something to prove and people talk about the contractual aspects which are out there and they're real but I think mostly it's the competitor in him that feels challenged by what happened last year knows he's a better player than what he showed last year and wants to get back to the level he was two years ago and he was a world champion you know what Ray when you when you talk about we've been talking about it for the last couple of weeks but how much do you think when we talk about this offense and how it's ran how much do you feel that Jaylen's running a building is going to be factored into it and do you think that it has to be a big part of this offense for the offense to be successful yes and yes I mean it's that simple he has to run

1:35:18the blood I'm not saying he has to run at 300 times but does the threat of the real threat of him running have to be part of it absolutely now I think because there's going to be the change of him being under center more and in shotgun less the running may look different like be different when he's in the shotgun most of his runs a lot of his runs were basically quarterback draws you know I mean it's running between the tackle this year I think a lot of his stuff with him under center is going to be roll outs and bootlegs so he'll be running but he'll be running more on a bootleg sort of action than a quarterback draw he'll be running a little bit more to the outside than he was running up the middle but his ability to run is still a big part of this offense it's a big it represents a big threat to the defense and it's something that they still have to keep in the they they have something to keep in the game plan from week to week and as long as he has his legs he's good at it I mean it's a big part of his game I'm with you right I hope he runs and

1:37:24coming up at two o'clock or we'll get back to everyone's phone calls but let's let's uh right away let's text some of the parts of this roster that I think there's some questions or just interesting as we go into the season so let's start with McCoy lemon first round pick and the first round pick is always a big deal and unfortunately for him his summer was interrupted by some hamstring entries came back at the end play in that final preseason game and now we enter the season Ray your expectation for lemon I know when we talked to you a couple months ago right when you just got back from your crews and you hopped in with us you were high on lemon very high I liked him to coming out it's been a slow summer for him what's your expectation for early in his season and just the rookie year from a Ky lemon um it's very unfortunate for him and the team that his summer turned out to be what it was I mean the fact that he developed the hamstring injury and and stowers too yeah um I mean they basically had no preseason no training camp and that's that hurts I mean that hurts them and it hurts the team because you need both of those guys but lemon in particular to be up to speed and ready to go with the start of the

1:38:24season you need him you need those catches uh and as he he's clearly going to be behind right now because he just didn't get enough work but where I kind of pump the brakes a little bit is on what I'm hearing a lot and reading a lot is people are calling them a bus story yeah which is they're ridiculous they're writing them all to him and say oh it's a waste of draping come on I mean yeah he pulled a hamstring but I know what I saw at Southern Cal I know what I saw that guy in college uh and I felt when they drafted him I felt he was going to be a good pick I think he's still going to be a good pick I think he's going to be really good in that role slot receiver I think he's a guy that's going to get open and the one thing that Joe in fact maybe even been with you and you and you here that I discussed it with you he does the one thing that that I a receiver in my offense has to he catches the ball yeah he doesn't drop anything I mean if you saw him play at Southern Cal he went through a whole college career and I think had like two drops in his whole college career

1:39:24and a guy who's being targeted over a hundred times he catches the ball so is he's probably going to be I don't know how much they're going to be able to play him early in the season it's going to take him a little while to get up to speed but I have no doubt that by the time he does that he's going to be a big contributor to this offense and for all the people that are writing him off now just hold off I he's a quality player he was a good draft pick and given the time I think he's going to prove that you know what Ray did he but one of the things that that a lot of people talked about I know it was a small seven-size but was there are there any concerns that you have with his separation because a lot of people were pointing to that when they were talking about bus the fact that the what three plays that he had two of the plays he didn't get a whole lot of separation is there any concern when it comes to that no no because he did in college I mean he was open all the time and he wasn't exactly like a secret weapon I mean everybody's a played Southern Cal new he was getting rocked they had to they had to set up their defense to neutralize him and he wasn't purely this is another thing the mistake I think people make about him is they

1:40:27write him out of his purely a slot receiver that he can only play in the slot which is not true I mean if you look back again if you watched him play in college was he primarily a slot receiver yeah he was I mean he played inside most of the time but he's lined up outside or motioned outside a lot he can play out there if you want him to but where he fits in this offense best or where I think he's the most natural fit is in the slot and he was open in college all the time uh... I know some people are saying he didn't show you that he didn't quote unquote flash in training camp um... I think it was because he just first he was trying to learn the playbook and then but when he was just getting to the point where he understood the offense then he pulled the hamstring I don't think he's had a chance to quote unquote flash but once he gets healthy and really learns what he's got to do I think you're going to see why you're drafted number one and I think by the end of the year he's going to be a big part of this offense I really do yeah and they traded up for him too I mean they obviously targeted him right they wanted him he

1:41:28fell to where they were in the draft and they got him all right right let's go to the let's go to some I saw in the depth chart yesterday that is it's just kind of funny as it plays out week to week your thoughts on the backup quarterback and what the Eagles have done this summer and where they should land on Sunday so yesterday the teams put out their depth charts right it's it's kind of a media thing to show the fans of the depth chart is the Eagles listed Tanner McKee slash Andy Dalton is the backup quarterback which has really kind of been the entire summer right where are you on who should be the two I didn't think either guy distinguished themselves much this summer what we saw no now I live like Tanner in the past and Andy Dalton is old you know by NFL standards but obviously a lot of experience there so where do you come down on the backup as they should go into week one with well I didn't think would be sitting here with four quarterbacks on the roster I am he said they still have it and I'm gonna owe him two dollars on Sunday we have four yeah I thought they were it was clear who was number one and it was clear who was and the rookie was number sure the question was what what were going to get with McKee and Dalton and I think that

1:42:31I think that the coaches and howie their thought was we'll let them both play the preseason and somebody will play well enough that we can trade one or the other right before the draft get another draft picked for next year and then we'll be all set we'll have our one two three and it never happened I both McKee and Dalton were underwhelming let's show we say in the preseason it's a kind word yeah and as a result here here you are going into going into Sunday who would be the number two to me the Dalton makes the most sense I've never been a huge fan of his I mean even when he was playing more and playing in month people's minds pretty well in Cincinnati I just thought it was kind of average I never thought he was anything special so when the Eagles made the made the signing to get him or the trade to get him I wasn't real excited about it but at his age with his level of experience if you're talking about who would you rather have the guy coming off the bench if anything happens to herts yeah I would probably be Dalton at this point it's

1:43:31just surprising that they you know how he's so good at this extracting value right trading for one guy's flipping him for someone else I'm just surprised we got here maybe maybe they just like you said we're kind of waiting for someone to come calling and no one they were calling and we're back but girkson roars for the right this is what this is quite frankly yes got I agree I agree they agree with that I it sounds like there may be a bigger that means it's going to be a big game tonight what do you mean was that I'm just saying the internet going out all day with this going to be a big game tonight are you spending this to your bet hitting what it would have been okay if I hit these if I hit these best I'm gonna be living with they like the grandma say living high on the oh yeah what you're gonna do is come here tomorrow and say I told you to live in high on the whole so that it's all right right I'd be curious about something the entire summer I don't think it's one of those things you could tell until the season starts because training camps are different especially with the run game and a running back right what's your interpretation of sake one bark Lee and what's left in that tank two years ago it's the greatest running back season we've ever seen here right last year it was not close now there are a lot of factors

1:44:34obviously the separation in terms of beyond the line of scrimmage where he was hit when the contact happened it was way different banged up offensive line how much do you think sake one still has left in the tank because I feel like that depending on your answer to that and depending on the truth behind you know what he actually has left it could change the ceiling of this team if he has one more great one left in him that could really propel them to it maybe a height that some are in expecting your thoughts on sake one as we enter this season yeah I think physically he's fine I don't think there's an issue and I know some people were saying that by the end of last year saying well if you look at the history and the national football league you know when a running back has the kind of year or guy has one year that number of carries that number we are generally there's a big fall off physically that physically they can never get it back it they quote you know the Jamal Anderson the priest homes you know those kinds of cases well you know sake one's a different guy and and and I really felt that what happened last year was and what happened with him which I mean to look at yardage was almost cut in half I thought that was more a reflection of the offense as

1:45:40a whole and specifically the problems they had with the offensive line and the injuries they had on the offensive line I mean you could talk about a lot of the areas where this team fell short and struggled last year and there were many factors and the easy one is to blame everything on Kevin Petulo which was that part was that part of it yeah but that certainly wasn't all of it I think the biggest the biggest single thing was the offensive line I think you know the guys were not healthy pretty much all year all of them and the drop off in their performance from where they were the year before when they won the Super Bowl and they were the best offensive line maybe that I had seen since the dolphins of the 70s so all the way to that this year when they were way subpar I think the problems really began there but there everything all appearances seem to be the offensive line is healthy right now they certainly seem to have embraced the new offensive philosophy of Sean Manion this this idea of the outside zone kind of running game the the pitch sweep run to

1:46:45the edges kind of game everybody seems to be enthusiastic about it it's going to be a change and it's going to be an adjustment for sake one but if you can get him on the outside and let him find his daylight I have no doubt that he can be every bit as explosive as he was two years ago and similar to what I said about Hertz I think he's really motivated to come back this year and prove that he's not done you know people are saying that he hears it and I think he's going to come back this year and play very well great all starts up front it really the offensive line is really the key to the whole thing I believe it's interesting you you brought up the kind of the motivation comparing jail on a sake one because we spend a lot of time I think everyone does on the future jail on contract quarterback contracts and just where that's going to go sake one if you look at his deal he doesn't have much money out left after this year so that to me there's there's almost an intrinsic motivation he might have to just like jail on Hertz except we just haven't spent as much time on that Ray you mentioned the old line last year totally agree it was a shell of itself the year before what did you notice this summer because we can cross our fingers we're all going to stay healthy

1:47:46that's not the NFL right that guys go down right I thought the I thought the depth on the old line this summer was better than I saw last summer and I look we want them all to stay healthy that's the key but I think they've got some guys that if they have some injuries Bell showed like he could play as a rookie yeah lampkin is people are going to love them if he ever gets on the field I mean that that guy's a bowling ball who who just pushes people and I thought we had Jordan Davis on during training but he said Drew Kendall was the guy that gave he's giving him the most trouble in camp Kendall Kendall's really good it feels like they have real depth now again yeah and I I agree with you Joe and last summer during training camp and during the preseason games you know they're defending champs and everything looks rosy but in the preseason when they weren't playing any of the starters and they were playing the backups and I was looking at the backups play I said oh you know if they get injuries on the offensive line I'm not sure I have a whole lot of confidence in this group of guys that neck that their depth that offensive line and approved to be that that

1:48:48was an issue this year I have a different feeling I mean the when you saw and again you didn't see your starters play you played your backups but I thought the guys they played this week this year in the preseason I thought played very well Kendall is a fifth round pick from a year ago the thing I really like about him is he is just just a fundamentally sound player I mean his his stance is good the way he uses his hands is good he's he never makes a mistake he always knows where to be he's just a really smart player who always seems to make the right play and Bell if you're to ask me who's the most pleasant surprise out of this preseason what we've seen so far I would say because we all knew when they drafted I'm in the third round I mean he is immense in the physical tools are there yeah I mean he looks like when I saw him I thought the only person reminded me remember King Dunlap yeah he kind of had that same look but I had seen him play at Miami and he was

1:49:54shall we say unpolished he had the size 6 feet 9 340 pounds long arms he certainly had what you were looking for an attack but coming out of college he didn't seem to have the greatest technique his balance wasn't perfect I thought there's a guy it's worth drafting third round seemed just about right but is he ready to play right now probably not but you can work with him and develop him into a player man he showed up more ready to play than I expected and look you want to have Lane Johnson out there you hope that you have Lane Johnson out there for the whole season but if something happens and he can't play for a gamer too I think they have the guy that can step in there and play I mean Bell to me if you're asked me did I come out of an 0 and 3 pre-season just pointing to one thing and saying well that's at least this is better than what I thought McAlbell would probably be that guy well and perhaps they found their lane heir apparent before they even had to right we've talked about that for years like when are they going to draft a tackle high what you know when are they going to get ready maybe they have and that that would be incredible you know pick there in the third round if it becomes that this segment brought to by

1:50:55monarchy is your game is your car game day ready breaks tires batteries and complete auto care by trusted local experts to get your game day ready minicky doing car care right all right Ray we talked a little bit when you first hopped in here about the NFC east how did the Cal boys might be giants approved we need to ask you about the hierarchy of the NFC and really I'm curious what you think of this Rams roster they've put together to me on paper it looks like one of the best NFL teams I've seen I mean they have I think to that team last year they have I've been lost four games and all of them were like that close right they had McDuffie who's a tremendous corner they add Watson who's a solid corner they had Miles Garrett who's probably the best player in the NFL is the height justified or is it does it makes sense to you that they are the biggest favorites in a certain bone 20 years yeah it does it does I wish I wish I could give you a counter argue into that I wish I could be the guy on the other side it says ah no they're not that good they're not

1:51:57what they're cracked up to be but honestly I mean just the last couple days I was looking at their roster and they're really good I mean unless something crazy happens you know I mean they get a whole bunch of injuries Matthew Stafford gets hurt I mean it can change we've all seen a change but right now yeah I mean they're to me they're the prohibitive favorite to win the thing and you know the one area their defense is going to be very good I would it would have been really good even if Aaron Donald hadn't come back right but the fact you bring him back and he wouldn't be coming back if he didn't think he could play he's not coming back for the money he's not coming back for the glory he knows he's going to the Hall of Fame he wants to come back and win a Super Bowl and I think that he's going to come back and put him next to Garrett that's I don't know how you're going to block those guys and the Eagles are going to have to figure out a way to do that by week four I know but right now if you're talking about the favorite team they're the favorite

1:52:57and they deserve to be the favorite I think they are that good here that defensive line with Garrett and Donald and then they had a bunch of young guys anyway I'm going to really trade adverse to get Miles yeah who's the detackled I was down there with verse that that's on the other that's probably going to be on the side of the garrard yeah like one of them they listen they got guys to get after the quarterback man and and and just having Aaron the Aaron Donald in the rotation it makes them that much more formidable you know but but like you say anything happened that they don't the game isn't played on paper you know you got to go out then you got to play but when you look at that roster and in what they've got they they have a really good football they're really good and the other thing that they've got is for to be a really really great team a team has a chance to win a championship the relationship between the quarterback and the head coach is super important yep I mean you need especially if that head coach is an offensive coach the relationship and the communication between that guy and the quarterback is vital and Matthew Stafford and Sean McVeigh

1:53:59have that going I mean they have they see the game and they see the offense exactly the same way and I think that that's one of the things they have going for and people say you know it's the offensive line great no it's good enough especially when you especially when you have a quarterback like Stafford that gets rid of the balls so fast yeah I mean you I mean you understand what it's like when you're on the other side of the line and you have a quarterback like that the balls out of his hands it you can barely get out of your stance in the balls on it's I was telling Joe like when we played the coach Terrick Glenn to read Glenn whatever his name the left tackle for the coach yeah he he was not he was not a stalwart tackle but the way paid got the ball out of his hands he looked like an all pro tackle over there he made pro balls yeah yeah no you're right I mean here you're right I mean and that's that is Stafford at that with this point 215 592 90 front I was let's take a phone call here with Ray did injured demand in Delco up on WIP what's up demand you know you know good morning fellas that's a good morning good morning demand what's up pal

1:55:05hey hey it's all about you Joe Jake all about you baby you know all about you what do you think about it all about you oh oh about would you say about us now um you you and God is making the playoffs well I know what I said what I said you said you didn't he didn't I said I don't know if it's a lock this year I said Dallas is better and if we're in a wild card situation I just think the NFC's really good demand Seattle's gonna be good again we just talking about the Rams Ray the North's got some good teams I I just if they're in the 10 win range to me that's not a lock I think they need to be 11 or 12 to be a lock that's what I said Demont got you 11 12 to be a lock um now these other teams they got to play ball too right and so you believe that the bears the lion um they can maybe feel who you say go get these spots because it's for division people and then under that as the wild cards and you know right well I mean the south the south is its own thing right that someone's got to go from the south that's a bad division but I mean we'll get Ray's thought on I think the NFC the underbelly is just gotten

1:56:09better so and Demont we appreciate you I mean Ray we were talking today about the Eagles a lock right and and if they win the division that's great that's that's the way in but if Dallas steals it and we're in a wild card I I think the Lions should be better with a weaker schedule I'm kit the bears feel like an interesting NFC they enter they out kind of thing like where where are you come down on them because if they take another leap oh I mean that I thought that coach last year was super impressive what he'd do with Ben Johnson and then the West the Rams the C.O.X. 40 honors were always in the mix it feels like there's a lot of good NFC teams this year there are um yeah I think the NFC is a lot stronger than the AFC a lot and if you look at the you've got three really good teams out West yep uh and you've got three really good teams in the central you know I mean it and the Vikings you know the Vikings have a good roster they have to figure out the quarterback position and they did win nine last year without any quarterback right yeah I mean they have a good roster they just have to figure out the quarterback position but the

1:57:09other three teams I think are really good uh I've I was having a discussion with a a league guy this past week uh and he was saying he thinks the bears are going to take a step back he thinks that what the bears did last year wasn't legit he's not convinced that they're that far along and I kind of disagree I you know I and maybe I'm a little my view is a little bit skewed by what they did to the Eagles oh they beat him up that black Friday I mean they just they took the Eagles defense apart and nobody else did that last year uh and I think Johnson is really that good a coach and again getting back to what I was just talking about is how critical that head coach quarterback relationship is you know I think Johnson and Williams have reached that point now where I think the Williams now has a coach in Johnson who can bring out the ability that he's got and he coached the heck out of that kid last year and I think the Williams will come into this year just with more confidence and I think he's going to pick right up where he left also I think the bears aren't at all taking a step back I think they're going to be right there you know the thing that jumped

1:58:13out to me about Chicago Bears last year was the fact that he didn't cuddle it didn't sound like he cuddled Caleb at all it sounded he he just made it threw him out there and made him learn offense and I think sometimes that's the best way to do it you look at paid manning and the year to his first year in the NFL Ray Ditty and he got beat up their second year he came back like with the confidence and and and and you know knowing the offense he was a different quarterback so it could potentially be the same thing yeah I remember you know who you know who it's just going back a long way now but you know who patents quarterback coach was his first year his rookie year in Indy was Bruce Ariens oh that's right and Bruce told me a story that that year to your point you patent through 24 interception it's remarkable yeah he was terrible and he had a game I think it was against the Patriots and like a midseason where he threw like three picks in the first half and took himself out of the game wow like he just said that's it and he went to his back up I can't

1:59:17remember who the backup was once it was back up it's all the backup to start warming up because you he's done you you got to go in there I'm taking myself out Bruce Ariens who's the quarterback coach turns around and sees the backup warming up and says and what are you doing and he said well patent says he's coming out and then Bruce Ariens says the hell he is and he went over to patent and patent sitting on the bench and Ariens says what's going on and he said look I'm terrible today I threw three interceptions already I'm killing my team I'm I'm taking myself out and Ariens said the hell you are he said you're going to get back in there and you're going to play because you know what you might learn something okay we're not going anywhere with our backup quarterback if we want to go anywhere we're going to go with you so get your butt back in the game and play better and maybe learn from your mistakes it's kind of a turning point in patents career yeah and then I remember like that first year he was horrible then he came back that next year and he was a much better but that's sometimes you got first of all you got to have a right coach to do that in my opinion

2:05:36my yeah sure was you know I mean over a hundred catches over 1400 yards I mean he was putting up big big numbers year after year I certainly I mean there were people that were saying that they thought that he looked like he was done that he was it slowed down that he had lost a step and I kind of doubt that I think he was like a lot of people very frustrated with a lot of aspects of the offense he was frustrated in his role or his non-roll in the offense and I think it carried over onto the field I mean I saw him pull up on some balls that I had never seen him do before I saw him not extend for some balls in traffic that normally that's his strength I think it was more of that than any kind of a physical decline and I unless I'm totally mistaken here I think he's going to come into this year with a lot to prove and I think he's going to prove it you know I don't think that physically he's lost what he had a couple years ago

2:26:22you can blame my wife I guess for this well when we see her in England I will I will bring this up and London hey this is why he's married yeah yeah that's why I ain't got no way now listen all right Elliott we're happy to have you and the serianti press conference one thing I'm curious of the Jonathan Grenard status come up and what's your expectation when they get on the practice field as he's gonna be full is he gonna be limited it's it's a big story ending it's a week one yeah so we'll be out on the practice field in about two hours here at the Jefferson Health Training Complex and Nick was asked about it earlier today uh didn't say anything about it you know said we'll see um he is no longer on pup so when they put him on to 53 man roster he was removed from the pup list so he is able to practice today uh whether he will I mean my guess is even if he does practice it will be very light like he's not had a training camp at all yeah obviously with uh you know a pictorial injury that impacts your ability to lift and things like that so I think even if he is out there I wouldn't take it as an indication he's gonna play in week

2:27:23one I'd be pretty surprised if he's out there uh on Sunday Elliott we were discussing something around I'm curious where you come down um you know the Eagles the last five six years it's just you know we just kind of get to this point of the year and we just know they're going to be in the playoffs and then the question is how great are they going to be is it a division winner is a 12 13 14 wins or is it more of those wildcard years like last year or you know wildcard round years Elliott when you look at the team this year do you think they're a lock for the playoffs because if Dallas is going to be a contender I look at the NFC and say wow there's a lot of good teams like someone whether it's Eagles the Lions the the Bears the Niners like I could see someone in the NFC we view as good having nine or ten wins and not getting in how do you view the Eagles in terms of being a lock or not so I think it's a it's a great question because I think other years especially the past three or four years it would probably be viewed as viewed as a crazy question right like of course they're going to make the playoffs but I also think baked into the assumption that they will make the playoffs is forgetting how hard it is to make the playoffs year after year after year

2:28:24in the NFL without question it would be a disappointing year if they didn't make the playoffs but if they do that'll be six years in a row and only eleven other teams in the history of the NFL have accomplished that like the league is set up to not allow teams to go year after year after year I mean you see it in Kansas City even those years they were winning Super Bowl they didn't look great during the regular season and I think that's what you've seen with Eagles the past few years so do I think the Eagles will make the playoffs yeah I think they will I think when you have Nick and Jalen they know how to win games they are good at finessing ugly games into wins and I think if you look at the schedule like they're better than almost every team they play on it so I think they will be a playoff team but if they miss it like there are certainly reasons why new coordinator you know playoffs five years in a row so many more games in other teams and you know whole new receiving core so I think they will but I don't think people should take it as a lock because it's really really hard to do year after year and let's talk about some depth char things that came out yesterday including macaque lemon being listed as punt returner Hugh felt a little skepticism at the idea your thought on lemon returning ponson week one

2:29:28so I don't love it I mean he returned the one pun in preseason and he fumbled it and not only did he fumble it he made a poor decision it wasn't like he you know it wasn't like an error where it was obvious he should catch it he just dropped it like it came to him he had already decided not to pick it up tried to pick it up and fumbled it so I think you did a poor job there um I think the the benefit of him doing it would be watching macaque throughout the offseason and especially in training camp when he did practice he looks like somebody that needs uh he needs a big play he needs something to remind himself like hey I got drafted in the first round I can be a great pro I was a great college player and I think in the punt return game if he can get the ball there's a possibility that he has a big return and maybe that confidence can carry over to the offense aside of the ball so in general I don't love putting players that are important to the offense or defense back there I just don't think it is worth the injury risk but I think with macaque right now if he can get a big return in the punt game I think it would be really good for his confidence Elliott true parks with us here as we get ready for week one the Eagles the commanders on Sunday

2:30:30Elliott I saw you were posting some some graphics with the idea of the strengths and weaknesses to teams we kind of getting ready for a game for the first time in a while Elliott when you look at the commanders and the match up sunday what stands out I mean I think it's interesting they have a new offense and defensive coordinator as much as we tell like all our new their new on both sides um David blower with the offense and a coordinator that came from the Minnesota Brian Flores tree on defense so a lot of new for washington obviously jade indianials healthy to start the season what you thought first thought on the match up as you kind of dove into it so I think no week one match up is easy especially divisional one so I don't think they should be expected to blow washington out but I do think it's a very favorable match up for the Eagles if you look at where washington is strong and where they're not it really matches of well with with what the Eagles have like the washington offensive line is banged up they're missing larmy tonsil a few other their starters are dealing with injuries will get a practice report later to this today to see who actually practices but obviously a strength of this Eagles team should be the defensive line so I can definitely
