It is Thursday here on Sport Nation. Mornings with Rick and Chappy and a busy old show coming your way. Chappy as we sort of try and guesstimate what Dave Renny's going to do with the All Blacks for the fourth test. We've got the NFL season kicking off today. We're going to cover that. The Warriors in playoff mode heaps to get into. Alta Mare, other modern than everyone.

2:04Yeah, the question marks over the All Blacks team is maybe more proficient than we've had since Dave Renny's first All Blacks team. The thing I really think here is, we talk about Rassy's mind games. Rassy going early and naming nearly the same team, but bar the two injuries. I think has really put the acid on Dave Renny because I think Dave Renny will have been thinking about what else can I do with this team and am I going to give players an opportunity? Are we treating this fourth test as, you know, how are we treating this fourth test? If you don't know what I mean. And then Rassy's going, no, I'm putting out the strongest team I possibly can and Renny's like, okay, does that force his hand? Is that change the way Dave Renny thinks about this fourth test? See, I massively disagree with that. Well, I'm not saying... It's a fourth, like, this is still a potential series leveler. Why wouldn't the All Blacks have played the strongest team? Why wouldn't the South Africans have played the strongest possible team?

3:05I think there's a lot of thought that Baltimore testers that add on and really the series is finished in South Africa. So I think if you'd ask either of those teams, neither of them will agree. That's a public perception, I think. Yeah, and you just look at that. If you ask Dave Renny, that's what he would say, but that is the public perception, right? Yeah, and so... So why would South Africa name a second choice team? As my question. If they see it as... This is the chance to beat the All Blacks 3-1 in a series, why wouldn't they name the first choice team? I don't know that I don't think they... I thought that they might make more changes. I'm not saying they were going to put a second string team out. But I thought they might make more changes. When you've got a CEO, Kalisa, who's been carrying an injury, right? And he's starting again. I thought maybe there were going to be a couple of other changes, a couple of other tweaks, just for Rassie to look at other things against the All Blacks. But by doing what he's doing, what he's done, I wonder how that's affected what Dave Renny was planning to do. I mean, the All Blacks have already been forced into multiple changes, though, right?

4:08Because of three at least. Yeah, because of these injuries. Yeah. Look, does Rika Yuanne get a crack potentially? Dear, they try a different Ferris V. I think there's a good chance we see Richie Maughan, who they're this working, because he's taken them all that way. Also, Rubin Love has hardly been sensational in the last couple of tests, which obviously the All Blacks have lost. Do they need to make more changes than just the three that they've already been forced into? Probably. They need to do something different, because that last 15, 20 minutes, they looked like they were in a second tier, so they've ever got to one by so much more without that applying. Yeah, that's cool. I'm flattered the All Blacks. Big time. I was watching it live and texting a couple of mates, and one mentioned it while, you know, in real time. The All Blacks just feel completely off the pace here, and it was so, as an All Blacks fan,

5:11that was so unfamiliar, because that hasn't happened in the Dave Renny era, and so they need to make these changes. Yeah, I think Dave Renny, one of the things that he tried in this third test, is the first two tests, right, he had gone with that big six to give us a bit of extra size, and he went away from that the third test that just looked like a small loose three for me, against anybody who let alone South Africa, and that, I think, proved to be the case, as well, so expect two people to buy back at six, I think. Yeah, or at least size at six. It's not a big deal. Yeah, if it's not to provide them the Simon Park, I think we both said that last Friday that it felt small. There's this, there's Simon. Who's going to be the Blomin All Blacks captain? The fact that we have the uncertainty around that, maybe just shows, or reflects where this team is at. At the moment, I'm not saying it's panic stations or anything like that, because the All Blacks are still the second best team in the world. But it just feels like they need to really do something different.

6:14Yeah, and it's going to be interesting to see what that is. A man that was on the ground over in South Africa until recently was George Simon, who you might know more famously as a race call, and he's going to join us because he's been on tour on the greatest rivalry tour, but as back here, so he's going to join us later on this hour. I'm so excited to hear. He's a wonderful storyteller. He's a real racon tour, George Simon. So I'm so excited to hear his stories and just why he's done that, because everyone will have a different reason for why they've gone to South Africa to follow the All Blacks for this tour, whether it's they really want to do a family trip or a honeymoon or a wedding or a boys trip, or maybe George always wanted to follow the All Blacks around. So to hear from George, who is a massive All Blacks fit, and it's going to be amazing. I was called a race for him. He was over there as well. I mean, make the holiday pay for itself. Right? Get a gig while you're there. Yeah, it's now billable. Yeah, exactly. So we've got to talk to George Simon. Surely we're also going to catch up with Mike Carlson as well as an NFL commentator and writer from...

7:18Well, he lives in Europe now, but an American who went to college with Bill Balachick. So we'll get his take on the NFL season, which kicks off this afternoon. We'll also catch up with him. Well, we won't. Chappie caught up with a couple of the warriors yesterday. So we'll have those interviews for you as well. Plus we'll catch up with Nick Quinn as well. And we've got a question as well, Chappie, for your question of the day. Yeah, this is off the back of being the opening game of the NFL season this morning. And it's the replay of Super Bowl, and as a Patriots fan, I'm fine. Honestly, I'm completely fine. I'm not thinking about last year at all. There's no thoughts of what happened in that that decided to have not given it one second of consideration. The rematch of the Super Bowl. Yeah. And so off the back of it being a rematch of the Super Bowl, if you could pick it, what would be the best game of the opening of a season? Any sport, any teams, if you could pick two teams to open the season in a competition. So give us the two teams, give us the competition, double-eight, double-three. What would it be? Because straight away, I think New Zealanders go all-concancery,

8:21or Blues Crusaders potentially, or Crusaders chiefs in recent times in Super Rugby. You know what, I'd like to see for the NPC. I'd like to see the defending champions of last year's NPC, and the ran-fuelly shield holders play the opening game on a Friday night. At the home of the shield holders, so straight away, the shield is on the line to start the season. What if they're the same team? If you're the same team, then who, if the team that's won it has also got the NPC the year before has also got the shield. Then you have the team who either last held the shield or the team that came second in the NPC. I think the team that they took the shield off would be really cool. Really cool, yeah. So that, I would like to see that in the NPC. Yeah, that would be, that would be so. I think from a World Cup perspective, maybe the teams that last met in a final. So imagine if next year's World Cup the opening game was all like South Africa. Often it is a home nation. Yeah, often it is a home nation to open it because you want that local support and the fizz in the hype around that.

9:24So completely understand. But let's say, I deal World. If you could pick the opening game of a season or of a tournament, a World Cup, what would it be in who? Well, I think Bill Beaumont, like South African New Zealanders, the opening game of every rugby World Cup, because it means they're on the same side of the draw in England and get an easy pass. Yeah, as opposed to playing the quarter finals next year, which is just fast school. Yeah, indeed. So yeah, your text on that double eight double three time for some PGG rights and turf sports headlines. New Zealand's trusted pro turf specialist sender, but it didn't use out of the black fence camp. And that is that really had the malt. The co captain of first five has been ruled out of the entire way WXV global series following a car finjury that she picked up in the game against South Africa last Saturday. No timeframe for who to return to play as yet. An update on a replacement for who will be named in the next couple of days. George Raponsobius can take over her captain C. 10:25Big blow for the black fence, especially a hit of Francis weekend. Yeah, no demand to this enormous. She's not only the captain. She has that on field leader at the first five. She just brings a real calmness. She's such a level headed person, but I hate. And so the all blacks for the black fence to not have her is at a time when they were just really needs to be building these combinations. And we talked about it a couple of weeks ago when we were inside the camp with Tony Christie about what this tour and this run of games presents and it's building that consistency. It's building different options. I suppose the silver lining, if there is one out of this is there any year after a world cup. And so this is the real chance start going, OK, if this was to happen in the middle of a world cup. If we were to lose demands in the middle of a world cup, who steps up? How do we do here? Yeah, yeah. So it gives them the opportunity to try that elsewhere. US Open tennis, the women singles down to the semi finals down there. Coco, Goff played Maria and Draver this morning.

11:28You lost the first set, 62, you're like, ooh, and the US Open because Goff was obviously highly talented to go a long way here. She comes back and wins at 7662. So a three set of shoes come back. That means the semi finals of the US Open Women singles, you've got Sabile Enke Pagula, one versus three. And you got Goff Roby Kenner, four versus two. So you've got the top four players in the world in the semi finals of the US Open Women's Drawer. What are how often that has happened in women's and men's tennis in the last 20 years? Because we, particularly in women's tennis, we often see a changing of the guard and someone randomly will pop up in all of Suddenby World No. 5 just because of the closeness of the rankings. But you think about even 10 years ago, would the men, how often would it have been Federer Nadal, Vavrenka, Jokovic, or Murray, Jokovic, all in the semi finals? But you'd think that would have been quite often? Yeah, you would have thought so. The women's less so, I think, and the US Open's a great example of that.

12:31I remember when Naomi Osaka won it from nowhere, Sloan Stevens won it from nowhere. I mean, the women's slams tend to have this red accountant. Yeah, red accountant. These things where players just pop up and go, you're like somebody you've either not heard of or you as an unceded player. All of a sudden makes a run and goes deep, but not this time round. So that's interesting. Also, we've got one of the men's semi-sorted, our Francis TFO, a big mackerel senior yesterday after being two sets down, came back to when the last three, seven, five, six, three, seven, six in a tie break. And then last night, Ben Shelton getting it done over Carlos Alcaras, lost the first set, seven, six. Then one, six, one, six, three, lost the fourth set, six, one, wins the fifth set in a tie break, seven, six as well. So in all American semi-TFO and Shelton on that side. That was a remarkable match last night. Ben Shelton just keeps going about his work, doesn't he? He's a consistent top 10, top 15 player, obviously he's played at Auckland before, but this is an enormous scalp to get Carlos Alcaras,

13:33the defending champion at the US Open. In front of his local crowd, he's American, in a match that finished at 3.33 in the morning. Which in itself is probably, fast school, the schedule, but enormous, enormous moment, not only for Hamburg this tournament. Yeah, huge for American tennis as well. 14:33Sorry, I thought you were playing the George Simon calling the race in South Africa. Thanks, Brian. George Simon does George on the phone. George, you do have a number. George Simon's horse one. Yeah, George Simon's horse one. There we go. That's what happened. Yeah, that was a good call to listen to too from Aaron White yesterday, boys. We got back from South Africa, my wife Mary Ann and I, the rest of the New Zealand contingent, on Tuesday morning. So the next day, yesterday we were at Cambridge and we saw our filly by Ritchester called the sweetest song when the first start. So it was a great return to the land of the Long White Cloud and they really enjoyed that call from Aaron White. But it was nice to be home boys. It was a fantastic occasion and a wonderful experience to travel to South Africa and follow the mighty Org Lakes. And we had an absolute ball that was fantastic. Oh, welcome home, my friend. Tell us the reasons for it. Why did you choose to go on of all tours, the Salt Black Steward of South Africa?

15:36Well, I remember I was one of those young fellas that would get up in the middle of the night and watch, you know, the, the sit goings, the bride, William, the sea and cook Patrick of this world, playing in South Africa. And I remember those days back when I was 12 years old, thinking I'm going to go there one day. I didn't know how I was going to get there. I doubted that I ever would, but the opportunity arose and, yeah, it's been four and a half weeks there with like-minded people and we had a great time. And it is a country that you have to experience. I've come into a lot of people over there. One of them was Jeff Wilson. Goldie was there and he mentioned that it was his 32nd time that he'd been to South Africa. And he was seeing it through completely different eyes as to me. I was a virgin. It was my first time to South Africa and. I haven't seen that for a long long time. But I'm going to leave it alone.

16:37I'm opening. I'll move on. I opened an event and to experience it first hand was, was fantastic. But yeah, it was everything I've built it would be probably even more. It's a land of contrast. It's a land of the haves and the have nots. If you have, you've got plenty. If you have not, unfortunately, you're doing it tough. But to experience that for myself and with the rest of the crew that we were there was certainly an eye opening experience. But something that I think is the greatest country I've ever been to be fair. And I've traveled around most of the world, particularly the racing world. But I think just because it's stuck in land of contrast, it is probably the best place I've ever been to. George, you mentioned watching it as a youngster. Was that the 1976 tour in particular when you went, I want to go there because that was such a controversial tour.

17:38There was the boycotting of the Montreal Olympics. But then, he spoke of the contrast. The contrast with that all black squad had such revered figures like Laurie Mainz, BG Williams, Bruce Robertson, Syd Goyne, Ian Kootpatrick, Grant Batty. Those are some icons of that black jersey. It must have been such an interesting time to be in all blacks fan back then. Yeah, and that was exactly the reason why I wanted to get us out there for the following days. That tour, the 76 tour, getting up at two o'clock in the morning and watching it on TV. And then I've been the last few weeks. I've had the absolute pleasure and thrill of being in those wonderful stadiums. I've been a part of the high loftess first felt, FNB stadium the other night. And to be there right in amongst 80,000 screaming South African rugby fans was quite an experience. And even the pre-match, there's been a lot of talk about the flyover boys. And I think that's the reason why I was in the middle of the year, particularly when the planes did get very, very close to the roof to be fair.

18:46But it was such a thrilling moment to experience it. I had to laugh the other night Saturday night. Everybody knew that there wasn't going to be a flyover due to the controversy surrounding the previous flyover at the previous test match. The flyover would happen suddenly. All these paper playing darts came from the top of the grandstand. They've got everybody and that was the evolution of the flyover at the FNB stadium the other night. But yeah, it's a lot of South African fans. They really endeared themselves to me personally and to a lot of people on our tour. They're so respectful. That looked at, don't worry. They are passionate. They're like the AB supporters. We love to win. We love to take on the best and the best of the two best rugby teams in the world at the moment. And they went head to head. When we won the first test, the AB's won the first test at Ellis Park. I remember walking out that night and I lost count of how many South African rugby fans came up to us, congratulated us.

19:49I five dust and said you were too good tonight, but we'll be chasing next game. But yeah, it was wonderful to see. And the other thing that amazed me about the South African rugby supporter and all the South Africans that we met on tour and there were many. They welcomed us to their country and they also said what a pleasure it is to have us there and thank you for coming to our country. It was every second South African person we met said exactly the same thing. So it was a tour that was eagerly anticipated. The greatest rivalry to the promotional side of it was fantastic and there was just lovely to be part of it. George, got to ask you. We've had Sean Fitzpatrick on the show. We've had Steve Devine on the show. They both talk about every time they go to South Africa. They end up having to scrum South African rugby fans. How many times did you lock shoulders? There were a couple of occasions that I really can't say on air.

20:52They talk about especially in Johannesburg, they say, look, you don't take any risks. The security was heightened. There's always constant talk about the safety aspect and you appreciate that and you're very mindful of it. One night, a couple of our guys, there were the two biggest men in our tour group. They decided that they wanted to go down the road from our hotel to one of the local pubs. They got about 100 meters down the road. Security guys came up to them and said boys turn around and go back to the hotel. It's even present. We enjoyed meeting. In fact, the hotel we stayed at for the last week in Johannesburg, the South African. Springbok, a woman's rugby team would base there as well. So we saw a few of them and look. Wonderful people, wonderful ambassadors for their game. They obviously knew that we were all black supporters, but many of us popped along to watch them get dumped by the black friends.

21:56It was great meeting those people, meeting those rugby players. All I can say to the VAB rugby players is that, man, I wouldn't want their job. Even though it's every boy who's dream to be an all black, taking on South Africa and South Africa and taking on the springbok forward pack. I think they are the biggest men I've ever seen in my life. And we're like three weeks in a row just constantly coming up against them. I'm sure the boys, the ABs will be a bit sore because some of those hits in those games were just the other this world. But as I said before, and I'll keep saying it was just a fantastic experience and wonderful to have that opportunity to be in amongst them. As an experienced George, what stood out on field and off field? On field, I think it was before the test started the pre match and entertainment.

22:57Also, there's the passion that they sang the national anthem with the South African rugby players rugby supporters. It was, yeah, it was quite incredible. And you could feel the passion when they sang their national anthem. That stood out for me on the field off the field. There were so many highlights for us. We spent four and a half weeks tripling the country. We were in Port Elizabeth. We went to a three night, three day, two night safari out of this world. It was just fantastic. But I suppose the highlight for me was the day we spent in Soweto, available places. And we had a wonderful guide. He was actually in those slums that we visited in Soweto. He came from them. And so he spoke with experience and he was a great guide as well. He told us stories that we, one of the things he said to us, he said, just staying in Stanton in Johannesburg, he said it is the new Johannesburg.

24:01And we get to see that the financial business hub of Johannesburg. And it is very modern. He said, but I'm taking you to Soweto. And it is a safer place in Soweto than what it is where you guys are staying in your hotel in Stanton city. And the reason for that is that it's self-governing in Soweto, in the slums. If something happens, they generally find out who's done it. And they just spend their own justice. Because by the time the police get there, it's a couple of days later. So because of that, they look after each other and we felt it. We went to a, we were so privileged to be taken to a kindergarten. And we were, I mean, I've got a little man cave here in my place and most of my mates have been in it. I think my man cave was bigger than the kindergarten. But they had 50 kids under five years of age. And they were just so happy to see us and to spend time with them and to listen to their teachers and listen to these kids who've got nothing.

25:08But the teachers have got even less. But the happiness, the joy that they had despite all of that and the circumstances and the facilities in which it's an everyday occurrence for them. It was, it was very, very humbly. And one of my best mates, my best mate is a darker Tony Clark. And he was there. He was high five in the kids. And I think everybody in our group, and there were 30 of us that visited Sohito that day. We all had a tear in our eyes. We left. It was, it was incredible. The other thing about that day was you wouldn't believe it. There was a bloke wearing a warriors jersey around. So I had to have my photo taken with him. And I sent the photo to Cameron George just to say that the wires brand is worldwide, even in so we. Wow. It says how the wires starting to. I know every time I see a sporting event overseas, there always seems to be a South City rabbit.

26:09I was jersey in the crowd. Greg and the wires are going for that record, George. When one of the tests, I forget which one it was possibly at Ellis Park. The bloke that was sitting three seats away from me. And they had a warriors jersey on. So wherever we were, we were we would pop up in the most unbelievable places. But you know, Dave Renian, the team, the first hotel we stayed in prior to the first game and the first test. In was at Ellis Park, the first hotel we stayed in the old blacks were there as well. But we get into a left and you've got Cody Taylor, you've got Wil Jordan, you've got, well, Damien McKenzie. And those guys are so approachable. You know, you know, I hate to be them. It would annoy me. The tears, but they were always obliging, signing autographs, taking photos and nothing was a hassle. So that way that the A.V.s have certainly endeared themselves, particularly to the supporters who spend a lot of money to be fair to go over there.

27:17But after the first test, we thought we're on the right, the right off, so to speak. But in the last two games, I think the South African is we just too big, too strong and too good. I heard you guys before saying the score possibly flatted the old blacks and watching the games at the stadiums. I felt so as well. Personally, I didn't think I thought we were home in the first test. But the second and third games I never thought we were going to win once the South African's got their tails up. They were dominating over the vast period of the second half in particular. So good on them, but I hope the A.V.s do the business and Baltimore on Saturday. What changes do you think we're going to see George? We were debating this as to how many changes there would be. Obviously there's the three injuries. You know, it's been floated. The Richmond one. I might get a start at 10 or Rico. You only gets a start at center. What are you thinking, mate? I mean, there's an all black fan and someone that's been on this tour.

28:19What do you want to see for for game four? Yeah, it's up to Dave Renian and his trusted advisors. But I really thought Richie Maunga might get a run in Baltimore. Rico has been in great form over there. He looks sharp and he said a couple of good times. I thought he was better than lucky not to make at least the bench, but they had a strategy. I think they were able to make a good deal about the players and the coaching team and the management team. So they stick to that as well. But I'm really looking forward to the Baltimore test because it's taken the home ground advantage that the South African team the spring box had away from them. And there'll be very curious to see how they perform in Baltimore, and because once the 80,000 screaming spring box supporters start up, I'm sure the players on the field can hear it.

29:20And then they get obviously the game on that, that they're momentum. And conversely to the all black rugby players as well, it would be a hard thing to do. The other big thing, of course, was on Saturday, we lost Arty, and that was the turning point of the game. George, you mentioned before how cool it was being welcomed by the spring box fans. And you're a massive, all black fan, you're a massive, wires fan. I often say on the station that I feel we are quite subdued spectators as New Zealand sports fans. Now that you're back home, does it make you think, hey, maybe we could do this a bit better? Yeah, absolutely. I think that the all black rugby supporter is very respectful of the rules of the game and the opposition. I've been to countless wires games. The wire supporters are a bit different. Make sure that the opposition aren't welcome. At the old stadium. But it was just the respectfulness that the spring box supporters showed to us

30:24was the thing that really stood out for me. And they acknowledge and they're appreciative of the effort made to get there in the first place because I think it was nearly 30 hours tripped by the time you get home. And it was a long way and I can't believe it Jeff Wilson has done it 32 times. You know, one of the guys, we saw him name dropping our boys. But one of the guys that was on our flight over there four and a half weeks ago just happened to be two grand Henry. So we caught up with him on the flight. And it was interesting. And finally, it was on our same flight home as well. And I said to him, I said, Ted, what do you reckon? He said they're just too good at the moment. We have to improve. And he said an interesting thing as well. And I hope he doesn't mind me quoting this on radio. But he did say he said if you were to name a top 15 out of spring box and all black players. He said three quarters of their team would be spring box players, which was I thought an interesting observation.

31:24But he says we need to improve with getting some more players back. And some players are out injured at the moment. We've got 12 months to the world cup. I'll back to Renny to grow him Henry. And then the rest of the world black management to get things right, especially when it comes to World Cup time next year. You also got to call Erasert, Turfentena. It's an historical track. George has been around since 1887. And it's got its own unique traits before we chat about that. If our listeners haven't heard it, here's the beckoned of your call. At the 150 good pedal developing. The loose of dragon going out after Pistory's Estons and go for broke on the outside. The loose of dragon got the upper hand short of the line. Shut the gate. The loose of dragon beats. Go for broke third over Pistory's Estons. It was abuse of a race, George. Good one to call it. It's a track with its own quirks. How is that as an experience? I was was right up there with the commentating experiences that I've had throughout the world throughout my time behind the microphone.

32:26It just happened to ring. A couple of guys got in touch with them over there in the commentating role. And they were just so happy to have me there. And you know, I was very fortunate. Called Erasert, Turfentena. Now the home straight at Turfentena is about 900 meters, boys. So it's my good mate Steve Davis was over there, auctioneering as well at an auction horse auction. And he said to me, Gabey, that heads up. He said, don't go to the early crow because it's a long way up at home straight. And it certainly was. The race was over 1200 meters. We had a jockey that rode here very successfully for that 18 months. Craig Jackie, he was on the favorite in the race. So had that sort of common ground. But it was a wonderful experience. And suddenly enough, the boys and Nico crossed the auspices. His name is the senior commentator there. And he said to me, the last key we that called a race at Joe Hannesburg at Turfentena was Keith Harb back in the mid 80s.

33:28And of course, Keith Harb, anybody that knows my story knows that he's my mentor, he's my idol. And he was the last key we to call a race at Turfentena. All these years later, you know, his, his, what I know if you call it a protégé, but his understudy had the honor of doing that as well. So, yeah, that was, it was quite nice and nice touch to the day we had our group out there. We were winding dined and we certainly had an eventful day too. Triple full circle moments for you. Sounds like. Yeah, absolutely. That's probably the best way to do it, you know, to sum it all up. Having the opportunity to call a race was a bonus, but just to experience the South African rugby culture. And the places that we went to as well, we stayed in Durban. We stayed at a place good in Plunga, rocks. And if you ever get an opportunity to go there, it's beautiful. It was just fantastic. We spent more time than we should have in a local establishment that particular day.

34:33And in the other thing about the other thing that I must say to you is that having traveled extensively over the years, our New Zealand dollar, when you go to America, it's worth nothing. Well, this is the opposite. When our New Zealand, when we go to South Africa with our New Zealand dollar, it's one brand. One New Zealand dollars worth 10 rand. So we go out and there's, they've got some of the finest wines in the business guys. And I should know because I tried every one of them. And they, you look at these bottles of wine, red wine. And it's just beautiful. And you think back home, they'll be pushing $250 a bottle. Oh, they're about $19 New Zealand of bottle. The food is outstanding. They talk about their bride. And we had several of those. It's a great place to be if you're a meat eater.

35:36But it was just fantastic to experience all of that. And you know, it's been a bit of a whirlwind since we arrived home. And just talking about the brink, he votes those memories of the last four and a half weeks. And it's just been outstanding. It was just a fantastic opportunity. And something, you know, while I say that the absolute of the interview boys, I think South Africa is the greatest country of ever visited. George, appreciate your time. It's absolutely gorgeous late summer and just having a great time. Yeah, a bit, a bit jealous much, mate. I don't know if you've got your VPN sorted, but you'll be ramping up the laptop later on. I would imagine to, to catch the pets up against the sea hawks to the opening game in the NFL. Yeah, funny thing is we're out having dinner just a couple hours ago and there was a big advert for it on Croatian TV in the, in, in the bar. So I might well wind up going out afterwards, but it's kind of late,

49:25it is kind of late in the, uh, late in the morning. In terms of, I mean, it's, it is a rerunner rematch, if you like, of, of last year's Super Bowl. Um, it's supposedly according to the weather forecast, although you can never be sure with Seattle. Uh, it's going to be fine apparently. So I'm, I'm thinking yardage, uh, in this game with two quarterbacks who love to throw it. Yeah, um, I think that the, the new look, Mike Vrable Patriots, you know, would really like to, um, run the ball as much as possible. But I think they understand they'll, they'll have a difficult time against Seattle and Seattle right now. Their weakest point seems to be the back end of their secondary. And of course, New England's got AJ Brown. They're, they're big acquisition in the off season, um, to create more of a deep threat for, for, for, for Drake May, who had a pretty good season last year. So that, that's going to be, um, you know, I think one of, one of the key matchups will be a from Andre Stevenson can

50:27can run the ball for them. And, um, uh, Treby Anderson's out injured. There are other, there are other top running back. So in New England's got a better line than they had last year. That was the real problem against Seattle in the Super Bowl. Offensive line. And I think that'll, that'll improve them. They've got a bit more receiving, um, but, but with Stefan Diggs in case on boot, they both gone. It's not that huge improvement apart from AJ Brown. And defensively, I'm not sure there are strong as they were last year. That to me is, is the real full crime of this whole match. And then on the other side of it, Mike Seattle, they are third favored in the market to defend the crown that they don't seem to be talked about as much as some other teams will get to those later on. But why do you think perhaps there isn't this, um, or there is this perception around Seattle that they can't go back to back? Well, you know, they were favorites at one point, uh, to do that.

51:27And then the Rams, which I'm sure will mention, you know, later on, um, went on, went on an acquisition spree that strengthened them, um, tremendously. Part of the problem too is the Kenneth Walker, who had such a great Super Bowl running back, is going to Kansas City. And part of the problem is that nobody really trusts Sam Darnold, you know, as well as he plays, everybody always thinks he's going to stumble at the last hurdle. And he didn't in the Super Bowl or basically he didn't have to play super well to win that game because of Walker because of Seattle's defense. And I think that's what the stumbling point actually is. I really think Mike McDonald is a good young coach and at a real great defensive coach. Um, and I think they'll be well organized. Like I said, they may have a hole at the back of their secondary. Um, but at home, given the, given the, what's the way, what's the way to explain it?

52:27Given the incompleteness of preseason nowadays in the NFL, the limited number of contact practices you can have, the almost meaningless preseason exhibition games. You know, I think Seattle's pretty well suited to win this game. You mentioned Coach Vable before I'm sure he'll just be wanting the season to start after all the, the off field drama with him. Uh, after the Super Bowl, how determined do you think not only him, but this team will be to ensure that all that off field noise is now silenced? I think it's pretty much disappeared. Um, but it's interesting the way that it does carry on. Um, when everybody says, oh, you know, the NFL's 24 7365. Well, you know, if that's the kind of thing you have to do to keep in the lines, it's, it's not much. Um, I think they'll find it more interesting that the owner of the 49ers, J. York is not in Melbourne because, um, you know, he was arrested in Ohio last last month for soliciting

53:29prostitution, um, online. Um, and the too funny things about that were that he was charged with possession of criminal equipment. You know, as if he had lock picks or something like that for using his telephone. His telephone became a criminal object and then Michael Irving, the ex Cowboys receiver, he said, you know, he was paying $140 for the woman's services. He says, you get, you need to get expensive women, but the expensive women always get you into trouble. Did you feel just never stopped saying it's just a guaranteed product every day? You mentioned the Niners, they're taking on the Los Angeles Rams. It is rich touched on in Melbourne. There's a lot of love for the Rams. Mike, there are $1.48 in the opening game. They're $380 to win the NFC. They're $6.00 Super Bowl favorites. Yeah, so much love for the blue and yellow. Or we know at the stage with the Rams, where it's if they're going to do it, it needs to be now.

54:29Yeah, um, I think I think the, you know, the whole move in the betting was justified. You know, first, first you sign, um, you know, the best miles care at the best defensive player in the league, probably, um, the best pass rusher in the league, certainly. And then Aaron Donald decides to come out of retirement. Now he's been going two years, but he was, he was always a small, small error and very fit, very fast defensive tackle. And I'm sure he's stayed in shape. Now, whether he's in game shape is another, is another story. But they'll rotate him in, you know, probably, well, sparsely at first, and then more and more, probably specifically for passing situations. But if he's inside and Garrett's outside, that creates a huge problem for most. There are very few guys who can block either of them one on one. And you remember a couple years ago in the Patriots beat the Rams 13 to three

55:29in the Super Bowl. One of the biggest things there, not that they're offends, I'll ran over the Rams from the 13 points. But Joe Tune, their guard at the time, will please for Kansas City. Now he blocked Donald one on one for most of the whole, most of the game. And Donald after the game said, you know, it's on me, because he just couldn't believe one guy had handled him for most, for most of the game. But the, you know, the Rams, they ran, they ran Seattle right to the, right to the limit last year. They didn't have many losses. If Pukin, Nukuah has his head on straight, which he hasn't had since the end of last season, their offense is probably, you know, as good as it was last year. And their defense is going to be much, much better with the addition of those two guys. So I think it's justifiable that their favorites. Yeah, the NFC West has stacked, right? You got the rating Super Bowl champions. You got the Rams who are the shortest of short Super Bowl favorites. And you got the 49ers.

56:29So I think a lot of people are sleeping on, aren't they? I mean, are they the smokers to smoke you to this season? Yeah, the problem with the 49ers is, is constant injury. You know, and, and a few problems of receiver. I mean, you have a team who have two receivers who were shot. One before last season, what was the, that's, that's the interesting way of getting injured, you know, and they've rebuilt the receiving court. They brought back the boat, Samuel, they, they signed Mike Evans. George Kiddell is supposedly healthy again. Christian McCaffrey, of course, had a whole, you know, went through the whole season last year without getting hurt, which is a, almost a first for him. They need all those pieces to be functioning in order to be playing at top level. They also Kyle Shanahan, who was in a car crash during the summer. More of that offseason, you know, gossip news. But he had the line of preseason so far when they got to Melbourne. And one of the reporters asked him about their injury list.

57:30And he said, well, we're in the future here in Australia. And the Rams are still in the past in California. So we don't have to tell you until the Rams are in the future. And we're both in the present and we can tell you then. Was there a delorean in the car park? Are you going to wonder? Looking at the NFC overall, I mean, it's very, we've talked NFC West. It's very heavy there. NFC South is tight, but I don't see anybody really making a run from there. What about in the East? We've got debt, press got here. He's got the expendables with him in Rashan Gary and Von Millow. I mean, have they got enough to top the Eagles in the Eastern Maker run? To be honest, I think the Eagles are going to be better than they were last year. Because I think Saequan Barkley will be back to his, his 2020 four form. You know, we had that great season for, for the Eagles. And they do a great job of building their roster from the inside out.

58:30Jerry Jones does a great job of getting shiny hood ornaments for his luxury, his luxury car of a roster. And I'm never totally convinced that the sum is as good as, you know, the whole is as good as the sum of the parts with Dallas. You know, the big question will be, DAC played very well last year. Can he kind of raise the game a little bit? Can their defense play without Mark Micaparsons? And for the Eagles, it's, there's always that question mark around Jalen Hertz. You know, he's done very well for them. He's taken them to Super Bulls. He's won Super Bulls, but it's, it's kind of like Sam Darnal. Nobody really thinks that he's a total quarterback. And there's always something wrong with him one way or the other. And I think that will stick. But I just love the Eagles defense. They, they lost a few players and replaced them. I think pretty, pretty well. And I think you could make an argument that they may be the best defensive team in the league.

59:33If we look at the, we kind of touched on the pets before, other chiefs, the, I'm unsure about this team given, as you mentioned, the acquired Kenneth Walker, but my homes was often ACL. Travis Kelsey got married in case you didn't hear about that, Mike. And yet they still, yeah, apparently, there's still the team that's won three Super Bulls in the last seven years. Where do you sit on Kansas City? Well, I mean, the first thing obviously is Patrick Mahomes. And, you know, what kind of, when he's going to be ready to play and what kind of condition he'll be in to play when he comes back. If Mahomes is on to percent, you can never discount the chiefs. You know, they've got a lot of money invested in Travis Kelsey and in Chris Jones on the defensive line, both of whom are aging and, you know, can't, can't deliver day in day out the kind of play that they expect. The, the Andy Read offense is still lacking in receivers.

1:00:35You know, somebody really has to step forward and provide them with the target or Mahomes with the targets that they really need. And defensively, I don't think they're going to be all that good. But Steve Spagdolo is one of the very best game planners of defensive coordinators. So when it comes down to big games, he's often been very good at finding ways to shut somewhat better teams down. And, I mean, to me, that's another tough, the two Wests are the tough divisions. They're really balanced ones. You've got Denver who had a good season and are quite likely to be better this year. And the Chargers, if they can keep healthy, another team that persist in injury problems, if they can keep an offensive line healthy and get Justin Herbert really deliver on that immense potential potential that he has. That's another, it's another three strong team division, which will be tough to get out of. So I'm kind of looking back to the East.

1:01:35And rather than New England who moved from a relatively easy schedule last year because they were last place team in their division. So they were playing last place teams from other divisions to Buffalo who, you know, New head coach, not a new coach because he's been their offensive coordinator, Joe Brady. But I'm wondering if they might become more aggressive defensive team. And they've certainly got the weapons in, you know, especially in Josh Allen to really challenge anybody offensively. So I really think to me the bills are my favorite in I think in the in the AFC. And of course by December Patrick Mahomes, maybe 100% healthy. And then you imagine they'll go into a playoff game in Buffalo will find some kind of way to lose to Mahomes and the chiefs will be back in there. But right now on paper, started the season, when everything's easy to say, you know, I think the bills would be my favorite.

1:02:36Yeah, interesting because I was looking at the AFC North and the Baltimore Ravens. They've got obviously Jesse Mentor in there as a rookie head coach. But it's more about what Le Mans Jackson's been saying. He's saying it's basically it's all or nothing for them this season. I think he's at a contract the end of this season and he's already talking about exploring options if it doesn't go the way he wants. That feels like it's the two things could happen. Baltimore could run a run away with the North. If they could completely tank the season, how do you see that setup? Yeah, that's that's an interesting one too, because that's a division where Cleveland is not going to be very good. The Steelers under Mike McCarthy and with Aaron Rogers a quarterback, I think are more flawed than not. And that puts Baltimore into a pretty good looking position. A lot of people like Cincinnati this year, but I really feel they're lacking too.

1:03:36And Mentor, I think, will be a good head coach. I think kind of like McDonald, he's a good defensive mind who will be able to let the offense go. And the big question for them is can they get Lamar Jackson into a consistent passing game? You know, they they draft a receiver, they have Zade Flowers. Their offensive line lost Tyler Lindon mom was probably the best center in the league, but they should be able to put it again. They still have Derek Henry. Last year Derek Henry, you know, didn't quite have the season he'd had the year before much much like St. Guam Barkley. But if he's back to King Henry form and if Lamar Jackson's passing game just gets emphasized a bit more, the running takes care of itself, you know, like Josh Allen, he's a two way threat. And I always like Baltimore. I always thought with with Harbler, they were well coached, but they underperformed last year.

1:04:41What were they eight and nine? I think and really should have been an 11 win team or whatever. So I think they're probably the best star course there in the NFC and in the AFC. And just to skip ahead, I mean, they remind me a lot of Detroit last year, who were nine and eight. If I'm if I've got the two, two right, you know, and we're better, they're a better team than that. And I think there'll be a better team this year than that. So that's a pretty well balanced division with Minnesota Green Bay Chicago, who everybody kind of thinks will burst through this year with Caleb Williams and coach Ben Johnson. But you know, I would Detroit would probably be my dark horse in the NFC just like and very similar to the reasons that I like Baltimore and the AFC. There seems to be a lot of teams, Mike, that if you were to choose an emoji, it would be that that thinking face one, you know, with the looking in one direction and the hand up to the chin.

1:05:43Where do you think there is the biggest uncertainty? Because as you mentioned, chiefs were not sure about unsure how the pets are going to bounce back from last season. Cincinnati, who knows how long Joe borrows going to stay on the field for Josh Allen every year, it seems to be like, right, he needs to do something. We haven't mentioned Houston. We also haven't mentioned Detroit, who won their division over the last couple of years before being a bit wayward last year. Yeah, we do have the greatest unsuitable to you this season, which team? Well, geez, the most certainty I have is for the jets. And you would have that emoji where the tongue is hanging out of the mouth and the eyes are rolling around it so far. That would be that would be my pick. I think Houston's a good, a good kind of, you know, great defense. What's their offense going to do? Can can CJ Stroud play the way he did his rookie season? You know, can they are they are they talented enough to do that? And I think they're still lacking in a couple of areas. I'm not quite convinced that they've rebuilt their offensive line and of course losing to Angdele and Nico Collins, did you read?

1:06:50I think Tyke Dell is probably still suffering the result that that hurt them a lot. The other team that really has big question marks the the bears are one for me that doesn't quite add up because Williams, Williams played some games out of his head and you know created out of almost nothing. But the secret to winning NFL is being consistent. And I'm not sure the bears are good enough or consistent of this point. And the other one, you know, the team that really tanked last year was was Minnesota who let Sam Darnold go and thought that J.J. McCarthy as a rookie was going to take his place. And you know, this year they have Kyler Murray who has been spectacular at times. But I'm not so great teams in Arizona, but sometimes relatively good news. And I always had a shortcoming and I say shortcoming because he's about five foot nine. And the hard thing for him to do is to stay in the pocket and see receivers, you know, look over the offensive line.

1:07:55He's great when the play breaks down when he's on the move and running. He can gain yardage running. He sees the field very well and now in those circumstances. Really good quarterback coach in Kevin O'Connell in as a head coach in Minnesota. I wonder if he could give them the spark to put them back into the into what I think is a pretty balanced division. I'm not sure I like I said I like Detroit. I think Detroit's the best team in the division. But the other three teams could all be pretty balanced. You know, and they could could all beat each other, which would make it make it difficult. I think for any second team to emerge from the division. All right, Mike, you're in Croatia, which as you mentioned, you know, I've got ties to it. I know that there was always a bit of a Romano Gypsy get the crystal ball out, get yours out. Well, you're there. Tell us who's going to be in the Super Bowl. Well, I think from what I've just been saying and it's weird because I did a quick pick for a magazine.

1:08:55I guess and I picked different teams to win the divisions and then win the conferences. And I think Seattle, I think the Rams will win the division and I think Seattle will go to the Super Bowl from the, from the NFC and from the AFC. I wound up in the end. I was going to get clever with Kansas City and the playoffs. And then in the end, I said, OK, this is the year Buffalo beat Kansas City to the playoffs. So I'm looking at Seattle and Buffalo, but that that's really much more daring than I think I've been the last five or six years when I try to pick these things out. Well, Mike, we appreciate your time and we'll let you go so you can prep yourself for the Pats and the Seahawks, which is coming up real soon. 1:09:58Kansas City Chiefs Eagles, your Patriots and the Chargers Altar on 17th is the fifth equal favorites. What surprises you out of this market? How one favor one heavily favored there we go. How heavily favored the Rams are to be honest. Like they did a lot of off season work. They should be favored. Yeah. As mentioned there to Mike, it kind of feels like a lot of that is what I have to look now. So they must win as opposed to let's look at the rest of who those options are. I think Seattle at $12, Mike mentioned it before. They think they're going to come out of the NFC. There's $12 to win the Super Bowl. They're second favorite at $7 when the Rams are $380 in the NFC. That's valiants. I don't think enough people are talking about Philly or Detroit. And I don't like Philly Sportsman's. But I think they're a really good chance this season. They're such an annoying team to go up against.

1:11:01The NFC North is always a tough division. The Lions, you mentioned them there. The PanG 260, the Packers are $335. The Bears are $420. The Vikings are $575. I think you can put a line through the Vikings now. I don't think they're going to compete. So overall in that division. They are aware of who people say they're not being talked about enough. And some of you people say, right them off right now. The team that I actually, there's an option here for the, you know, you can bet on conference winners and division winners. NFC North winner, the Chicago Bears at $420 I like. Because they don't think Detroit will be as good as last season. I don't think the Packers have quite got everything in order either. And the Chicago last season. They had the most, they equal, I think, I think, so any NFL record for the most fourth quarter come back wins. They had six where they were down at the top of the fourth quarter and won the game. If they can turn that form into something earlier in games. So I think they've got enough to be a difference maker into winning the NFC North.

1:12:02And I don't mind them at $420. I'd suggest if you're that way inclined, if you're into a future's bet, have a look at those regular season wins. Because I think the bookies have got a couple of them wrong. Really? Well, Falcon's seven and a half, that feels one if not two wins too high. I think there we go under that. Giants also, it's seven and a half. I think they win six or seven games this year. So there's some value to be found there. The dolphins are going to absolutely suck. And yeah, I keep going back to just how heavily favoured the Rams. And look, we might be sitting here in February going, yeah, there's over the winners. But this far out with where we are in the season, not even a ball's been kicked or thrown yet. And to be that heavily favoured to win the NFC and that heavily favoured to win the Super Bowl, I find quite intriguing. There's actually, there's another market, or quite like, in terms of futures, of to miss the playoffs.

1:13:04So if there's a team that you think is going to be, you know, as always, kind of be there or thereabouts, but might have a stinker of a season, I think to miss the playoffs is not a bad play market either. And I look at some of those, we talked about the Baltimore Ravens, it feels to me like that could be, they could be amazing, or could they could be terrible this season, depending because just, because of that power dynamic in them, it's $3.60. I think it might be worth this, Sniff. Yeah, I've done a couple of futures, multies with like Jets, Giants, Miami, Cleveland and Atlanta to all miss the playoffs. It's not going to get you super rich, but it's paying like $2.30 if you want to have a go at that. I know a lot of people don't like short-priced futures, but I think it just gives you another reason to follow the NFL. If you don't have a team, for example, or if your team is going to suck this year, then at least you've got an interest in something. What about if your team sucks every year as a Raiders fan? Well, get on those futures mate. Get on the futures.

1:14:04Find some value. Yeah, well, there's a few divisions like, I think the AFC South is another one, I think the AFC South as well. They're not great divisions, but they're quite tight divisions. So finding teams in there that you think you're going to suck more than the rest do for that not to make the playoffs is probably not a bad shot. AFC South, the Houston Texan should be winning that and I think at 2.10 is absolute value. If you didn't want to have a division bet on that, I don't think enough people are talking about Houston. They are, they're really good. They're surprisingly good last year and I think they'll be there or there about to get in. You mentioned the NFC South, I think it's an absolute stay away over division when you look at the fact that the Falcons and Panthers are going to be there. The Falcons and Panthers are both favored to finish last at 440 in Tampa are favored to win at 270. That says wide open. I think the jockeying between the bills and the pats for the winner of the AFC East. So you could do a one, two combination there. Yeah, there's enough talking points away from just who's going to win the conference, who's going to win the Super Bowl?

1:15:09Yeah, there's also player props as well if you're if you're that one inclined. The Bengals 275 to win the AFC North for the Texter that just came through with who day Bengals all the way. Yeah, keep your tents rolling through on that. Double eight, double three. We've got massport clippings for you coming up shortly. It is 24 away from 11. Born well struggling to make the cut, spring into a brand new massport model. Time for clippings who are the mass sport and Maddie Johnson Cooper. Crunk was speaking about the NRL playoffs yesterday and they talked about what the keys were for the Warriors Dolphins matchup. We had Tony Edo on earlier in the week. He said it's the best pack in the was against the best backline from the Dolphins. Ooh, best backline. Probably definitely the most dangerous backline. Yeah, this is what Crunk and John thought about that. The other way Dolphins Cooper is these individuals that have played, you know, the younger players have had a taste of big game football, max playtham in particular.

1:16:14But there's not a lot of finals experience. Well, Fisher Harris will be captain of the year and Aaron Clark will be lock of the year. I just feel these guys, there's a lot more other guys that do a lot more highlight things. But feel the key to this game is the Warriors. It's their start and it comes down to their spiritual leaders. Whereas on the other side of the Dolphins, I just think they're it. They get confidence from their attack, right? So I think Cart Tower, farm worth, um, Cabo, you know, the hammer. They can't let 20 minutes go without having to run or done something. It's interesting that they need to, you know, break attack or get a line break start, you know, getting their feel into this game. That's where the difference makers are. They talk about fish and Aaron Clark for the Warriors and they talk about the hammer and Cabo and Cart Tower for the Dolphins. Yeah, and there's clear opportunities with the Warriors, right? Andrew Aubster actually addressed this with media on Tuesday that he believes the the fix for their defensive issues. I think they considered 88 points in the last three games.

1:17:14The the fix is actually really the wood he used was simple, but it's now a matter of executing that. And he said, the easy way from the outside is looking at it and going wing pushed in has felt and it's actually not that it's a domino effect of, you know, from the Ruck to the middleman to the center to the wing and how that then one mistake or one defensive read or one decision by one of those players then affects everybody else. And so you would think the Dolphins are going to go and try and push that wide force those force the Warriors into those decisions and try and exploit the outside with those dangerous players that they have now Brian has been talking all week about our edge defense for the Warriors edge defense. Ben and I like you climb your a parametri fan you keep saying hour and we. Yeah, yeah, so it's getting brainwashed. But you know, he'll let you know, he'll see me is back this week. I wonder whether or not we see a bit of a shuffle from webby and Kurt Kapel ends up starting for Leotter on the other side to shore up the edge D.

1:18:22Yeah, I mean, you love a conspiracy theory. It's not a conspiracy theory. They've done it before and he is a better defender right than Ali Leotter. You do lose a little bit on attack, but if that's what you worried about, conceding 88 points. Yeah, I've just played them on the other sides. Yeah, yeah, especially having chance on that edge now or wanting something we don't like being called edge that wing that side perhaps presents defensive opportunities, but he's a bigger body as well chance. And he's obviously a fallback by trade. So his defensive reads tends to be pretty fantastic. Yeah, I you would like to think that given their professional rugby league players and they have a very smart group of coaches that they can solve these issues on the outside. But then it's a matter of doing it in the moment. Yeah, you would like to think so. Here's who Maddie Johns and Cooper Cronk think are going to win the Warriors Dolphins matchup. I think the Warriors. I just feel fish Harris is the guy like I feel like they haven't.

1:19:25He's the only one that's truly done one multiple comps experience what this is all about and they will be going fish. What do we do? And he'll be going this is what we do follow me. Yeah, I feel like he is the key to it all. Both times they play this year and went down to the wire. He was two points split. It's going to be it's going to be it's going to be tied. Obviously there are things as coach I'll drive and I'm really keen on, but like we've got we've got brilliant intellect within the team, within the backs, within the forwards. So for me not to use that intel would be naive. There's some framework that we've got, but there's definitely freedom within that. Yeah, freedom for the players to get involved in the game plan. I mean, that's the thing, right? As coaches, you've got to have the players prepared for eventualities that happen on the field.

1:22:28You've got to have players that can then implement those changes on the field, on the flyers, the game progresses. Yeah, losing Arty though was that real impact moment, wasn't it? They kind of just, you lose that guy that just gives you so many different skill sets, whether that's ball carrying, break down, clean out, defense, marshaling of the tropes. This whole oricon I've heard half a dozen people this week say, but the Dolphins was when the comp said, we've got about Penroth. Well, that's the thing because it feels like to me that the Panthers have really got out of second gear this season. Really or rarely? Really as in not often. Right. Yeah. Sorry, I'm not rolled of my eyes enough now. Well, I know that's not for you. It's not for you. It's not for you, it's not. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I think on form at the moment the Roosters have been poor. So I think the Panthers get that done. But I think you're right on that front.

1:30:35I don't think you can write the Panthers off because I don't think we've seen the Panthers at their best really yet this season. I think that's the cup. Brian and I had a conversation, it would have been probably two months ago oricon. And we said, okay, three teams who don't you want to face in the playoffs right now if you're the Warriors? And we both agreed on the Dolphins. Penroth. Yeah. And Cranella. Really? Yeah. The sharks just, the way they match up against the wires in terms of the Ford Packs, slowing the Ruck down. We've seen in recent times that the Force, the Warriors to only make 30, 35 metres and then get to their kick and struggle to get out of their own half. And you can't tell me that if they were to meet in a playoff game, in bearing one, this was two months ago we had this conversation. That AFB wouldn't have been up for playing the wires in a playoff game. Yeah, I mean, because I look at that, that, and I'll go back to the Revitos. But to Vita to Toler, Brandon Smith, Keon, Kolo, Matangi, David for Feta, Talis Duncan, Cam Murray, that is a pretty good pack, man.

1:31:41Yeah. And then, you know, they've got death taxes in Alex Johnson scoring a try on one wing. Cam will grow and goes, oh, that, set appearing now LaTrell's back as well. Yeah. If there's a team in the bottom four that I wouldn't want to play, it's the Revitos. It's an interesting observation. There you go. I don't think enough people are talking about Penra. And again, that might be in New Zealand leans that we're looking through. But it's still the band, this man. It's still a life in Cleary's coach, it's still Nathan Cleary running the card. This is a team. I was a Yo's back. There's a team that has dominated the finals in the last five years. Yeah. So I hope that covered for you enough of the other teams that are in the NRL. And other Texans come through, actually, I think the main difference between Dave Rene and the previous Ray Jean is that the rugby public can understand what he's saying and see clearly how the A-Bs want to play. The players look as though they are also clear on the game plan and individual roles within it.

1:32:43I back in love with rugby as a result, incredible series against the best team in the world and then in capitals at the moment. Great text. I think from, yeah, fantastic text. The first part of that Texas and three segments, let's go through them all. The first one about understanding from rugby perspective, I can tell you from like a media perspective and from a reporting perspective, we've gone to a few press conferences that Dave Rene has held. And those finish up and as a collective hoard, journalists turn around and go, oh my god, so many talking points out of that. And again, it's not the rubber shingray at a time. But there were times under the previous Ray Jean where you went, what actually was just said? What's my angle? Yeah, whereas Dave Rene gives you a couple of bread crumbs, gives you talking points, answers questions very clearly. There isn't these cryptic riddles. So I think that's been very endearing from a rugby public perspective.

1:33:43The game plan, yes. And we kind of knew roughly the way they were going to play when Mike Blair was appointed as attack coach. They were going to use the width, they were going to play at pace, they were going to try and control the breakdown and use the right to their advantage with the speed there. And we've seen that a lot of the time. And then back in love with rugby as a result, well, look at the viewing numbers and the interaction of not only rugby's greatest rivalry, but the NPC as well. Look how often we're talking about the NPC at a time when the all blacks are playing South Africa. And where those two sit on the level of rugby is completely nice and day a lot of the time. In terms of how much they get paid, the quality of it, the level of defense, the interest that the previously has been in recent times. And the fact that people are talking about getting people saying that we're more on for saying that Taranaki are going to be beating Monew or two this weekend.

1:34:44When would that have happened in the last few years? And the way that your top teams are playing, regardless of the sport, has a trickle down effect. Is this a timing thing because of where Dave Rennie's reign has started and people are falling or feel more confident about where the all blacks are going now? As a result, they're more engaged in rugby. Or is it a reflection do you think on the disenfranchisement with super rugby? Because I would be, I reckon if you could get hold of the numbers, I reckon more people are watching NPC than we're watching super rugby earlier this year. I've got the numbers for you. Have you? I can tell you exactly. Go straight to the source people. That's what we do here. Super rugby Pacific. And apologies if you're listening last week when I was on with John F.O. We talked about this on drive. Super rugby Pacific this year. The broadcast number is 1.9 million. 750,000 of that was on digital. The super rugby Pacific final was up 4%. This is obviously TV numbers. Up 4%, 750,000.

1:35:44Digital was 330,000. Now digital is sky sport now. Sky go. If there is a free to wear option as well. The nation's championship was up 5% to 1.46 million. On digital it was up 2% to 650,000. Rugby's greatest rivalry. This was the four games and the two tests prior to last week's third match was 1.275 million and 510,000 on digital. NPC, I'll be told by someone at New Zealand Rugby is set to have its highest viewing numbers in more than a decade this year. This was only through the first three rounds because they do it in three round chunks. NPC's digital numbers were up 29%. From last year to over a million. And the broadcast numbers were 1.38 million. Part of that is the introduction of a free to wear partner. Part of that as well. You would think though. As a casual fans watching the All Bixing Going, this is fun. I'm really enjoying this product.

1:36:47You go searching elsewhere, right? If you watch the football world cup this year, you might start watching the Premier League this year because you've gone, that was really enjoyable. I liked that or I liked that player and I want to see where there go. It's the same with the All Blacks, I think. If your top product is amazing, then you're going to want to follow everything else. Am I right in thinking those NPC numbers are greater than the Super Rugby numbers from earlier in the season? Well, hard to tell because NPC is still going, NPC has more games as well. NPC has what three times the amount of games is what Super does. I just feel like people are more invested in their NPC team than in the Super Rugby team, particularly if you're like Brian, right? Yesterday, Chaffey, you headed out to Wattage Q. Oh, is it Tuesday? Yeah, they put up a whole lot of different players and a couple of groups and it was kind of a free-foral. Have a chat to whoever you want for kind of five, six, seven minutes. And we're grabbed for we're going to grab play two today, play two tomorrow. We'll be a little fjana camparera and Kurt Capewell really enjoyed both of those chats and just hearing different sides of them. I don't really think we've heard too much from AKP since he joined the Warriors. Someone who we haven't heard a massive amount from this year is Chanel Harris-Tavita. And wanted to talk to Chanel about Harvest Combinations, obviously.

1:38:50He's been that consistent presence while there's been a little bit of chaos around him and the chopping and changing and injuries that have ensued this season. But also about why he decided to sign a one-year contract in May and then extend that by two years last month. And just what's really clicking at the Warriors at the moment. I did write a PCS day for this Sport Nation website. Sport Nation.nz about the use of this word culture and what the word culture means to the club. Because we consistently hear it throughout the Warriors that the culture is driving it. What that word culture means to each player seems to be different. So we'll start with Chanel Harris-Tavita. Here's how chat with him. 30-all. Who makes the call to go for the field? Yeah, as a team we practice different scenarios and I think there was about six minutes left or seven minutes left when I took the where for the first one. Got charged down and then Tanner's double movement happened.

1:39:50So then they nearly got a shot at it. To our credit, the middle was defended at well and even though they got a good field position the boys charged it down and then we obviously got that challenge. We had Eddie knocked it back and then got the ball again and got another crack at it which was nice. Going into finals, how important to have that confidence and know that you guys can do that. You can deliver in those clutch moments. Yeah, it's good. Good practice for us. We were a lot to fix our depth into a bit more on the edges. But like hitting into finals, I thought we were pretty solid and like you said that. When those close games and these big games you got to be able to deliver and be able to practice. Notice how we started recording. How's the body and you said everywhere is a bit sore at this time of the year? Yeah, that week off. How actually sore are you guys at this time of year? You guys have just been a whole lot of time bashing each other for the last few months. Yeah, I think you get used to your body being sore like different parts of your body.

1:40:54But all these boys are pretty tough and you have to be able to play consistent fully week and week out. I guess when you come into finals you get another push of energy. I think just the occasion also being at home is going to be nice and the boys are looking forward to it. Your game has gone to another level this year in terms of the kicking, that playmaking, being the lead man. What are you proud of? I think more just off the field like the connecting with the boys. I don't know, it's a weird one. I could have Loxic zest the shit, how close our groupers. Yeah, I think we invest a lot of energy into building combinations with when we're talking about fully and stuff. But also when we're not at training and we're not playing fully we're always hanging out with each other.

1:41:58We're playing golf, playing cards and just doing random stuff together which is like, we're playing Black Ops now as well. I really got a good clue. Close the beast. I don't want to give him a big head but Makka is the best I think at the moment. And Eddie Toei-Ov is the worst. Oh no, call him out. Yeah. You obviously had that time away. When you came back, Wevy was in charge. We're here about him being this player whisperer and we just talked to Luffy about it as well. Sean's obviously spoken quite openly about his relationship with him. What's we've done for you? He's pretty a true coach to be fair like I've had some pretty full-on coaches before him and he's very relaxed off the field. I think he just puts a lot of confidence into you. It makes it simple. I mean, like for me, when I go into the game with a simple but clear mind on what I want to do,

1:43:06then that's when I play my best as well. I think half the battle is staying on the field. The game is so fast at the moment and there's some young freaks out there, big bodies. It's only getting harder to play but I think half the battle is staying on the field. If you're staying on the field, sorry, and you got to coach that, it has full confidence in you. You're only going to get better. I'm intrigued by the contract situation with you, with your re-signing and May for a year and then choosing last month to take another two years. What was the whole process in thinking of that? Yes, I had a conversation with my agent about re-signing and he thought it would be best that I'll come off contract end of next year. Just with the new teams coming in and yeah, give us a bit of, I don't know the word, but a reading room. But also knowing that I'll be here for another year was nice.

1:44:08I think it was like two months later, or within that two months I started playing some decent footy. I was enjoying my time here and we'd be sort of said, we don't want you to go to November 1 and I was like, I'm keen to stay as well. So then we had a conversation and ended up signing the luck within a few days. I've been pretty fast, but I'm happy I've done it. You've had a few half's partners this year. It seems like, not saying that you're unhappy with the others, but it seems like you and Tomati have this beautiful relationship. You guys both always seem to be smiling in love with each other. I'm going to ask him the same question. Tell me about your guys' relationship. I think outside of what I was saying before, outside of footy, we probably spend, he's probably the half that I spend the most time with. I don't know what it is, but he's pretty true as well. We obviously love footy, but we love to get away from it as well. Does he take you out on the boat and go to the afternoon?

1:45:09I've been on the boat once, but we've dragged him out to golf a few times. I think he's actually caught the bug, he might get some clubs soon. And some lessons, hopefully. But now he's a good fellow. I think our whole team is full of good people, and that's why we've been going so well, Eric. There's just people who want to work hard, but there's a balance of working hard and having fun off the field as well. Just lastly, defend to something that you pride yourself massively on this team does as well. You're going up against a team that can pile on points and blink of an eye. How do you stop that dolphins' momentum this week? I think even, especially coming off the last two weeks, haven't been happy with our edge defense. I think there's only a few tweaks that we need to make. We also had some different combos. Tomorrow, myself was our first game back on a wall, and I had a week off and had different centers and wingers.

1:46:14There's lots going on, but I think when there's lots of chaos, we just have to go back to our system, which we've been training from day one of preseason. That's what all the good teams do. In the heat of the battle, they fall back on to how they train, and that's hopefully what we're going to do this week. Maybe you said it's simple. Is it simple? It's simple, but it's hard. And the moment it's hard to work? And the moment it's hard because there's lots of different variables and beyond a fatigue as well. You don't get that sort of fatigue at training. You try and emulate it, but it's nothing like the game. And I think it's just reps training, and also in the game, you've got to be able to learn on the run. That's why the team support, you've got to help each other. Someone won't be making a bad read, and you can help them out. And then if you make a bad read, they're going to help you as well. Shnau Harris has taken up the golf bug. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was so anti-golfful a little bit there. I can see why they like it. I just fed a terrible corner under the last couple of months. It's been too windy to go fishing. I can't be bothered driving all the way home. I've been tagging along with them going golfing and that's been right. What do you like about it?

1:48:16I just enjoy hunting my balls back. I'm always hitting them in the rough somewhere and I've had a try and hunt my ball back. I end up going on the course of six balls and I end up coming out with 12. So that's all right. Yeah. I live with more balls than I went in with. On Shnau, I said it the same before. It seems you guys have a very joyful relationship. And you play with a lot of halves over your time, not just at the Warriors. What is it about your guys relationship? I don't know. I think this pretty cruzy dude's easy to get along with. I don't know. I suppose when you're happy off the field and everything's going well, it just transfers on the field and yeah, we've got a pretty similar mindset and the way we like to play. Yeah, I just enjoy playing with them on the field. Yeah, it's just good times. What's making you happier at the moment? I'm just, I don't know, everything.

1:49:19I think the start is off the field, everything's going good. The connection with the boys, good, we're still hanging out all the time even when we're not training. I think that's probably a big thing too. Like the connection around the group and how well everyone's getting along and it's a lot easier said than done. Like trying to grow that and just say, get along with each other but something that doesn't work and it's taking a bit of time to build but I feel like it's pretty close connected groups. So everyone's happy and everyone's sort of rowing in the same direction. I felt a lot of boys step in and play this year and sort of just the way everything's rolling at the moment. Like everyone's confident in anyone playing and whoever fills in or whoever steps into their role, any role, we're confident that they'll do their job. On stepping into the role, obviously, you stepping into that heart-back role is unfortunate for 10 years and then you've gone to another level. Have you managed to put your finger on why? No, I think it's the system we've got.

1:50:22It's just the system that works and if you buy into it and now it's been here for three years now, so I've sort of clicked on to how we're best thinking and what he's trying to do. Everyone's pretty clear. Everyone's clear on their roles and I think that's the main thing. We're going to clear on your roles and what you need to do, everything else flows off the back of that. It's been huge that everyone's confident in their own ability and I think it brings out a lot of the players and brings out the best in them and just simplifying their role and just running out, tackling hard and different shapes with different spots and everything else. I've asked a few of the other boys, we just seems to be this player whisperer and you've brought it up organically there. What's he done for you as a player but also as a person? I think like I said before, he just simplified everyone's roles and my role especially and nothing changes too much.

1:51:27You're not doing too much different, we are thinking too much and even when we've talked I sort of play my best when I'm not thinking too much and I know exactly what's going on and get a lot of confidence out of how you train and our leaders that they really drive that. They really drive train hard and iron, sharpened iron sort of things. How you train is how you're going to play so I think you get a lot of confidence out of how you train. One man that's just wondered over here is Kurt K. Well who are we going to chat with very shortly? The leaders in this group though just seem to give that confidence to a lot of these players. It's awkward because he's what are we calling that two and a half metres away from you but what are people like him, fish, banny, done for you for confidence? Yeah they just clear on their own role. They do their job well, we have one sort of follows, they don't say too much on what everyone else needs to do. They just do their role when everyone else sort of backs it up. I think it goes back to what I said before. They train how hard they train like it goes back to that.

1:52:28Like, I don't really train too much, he's always on the side. They're standing in the rehab but the way they train is 100% every time and it's good for the angle boys coming through because they see how what it takes and it takes a lot of premiership, fish is one of the premiership and it's not easy. It takes a lot of hard work so I think that's what everyone's getting out of. What are those leaderships always do? You're a proud Kiwi. How amazing is this place going to be on Saturday? Filled that, sold out on a Tuesday. Yeah. It's going to be hectic mate. Yeah it is and we got good support everywhere we gave it. It's always special playing here in Mount Smard and yeah I feel we can do. Put on a good performance for our crowd here and let's look at it. Playing a week by week and winning game, week by week and getting to the end result of winning the premiership, there's a lot of foot in between there and the end so I'm going to take it one step at a time.

1:53:29Just last one step at a time, you don't know one year contract extension if you start thinking long term or you just happy going year by year at the moment. I haven't done it at all. I've only just recently lost a long go so we'll just see how it goes but I'm happy so I think you hear about it a lot. When you're playing good footy it sort of does stuff looks after itself and you start thinking about it too much and you start dipping in form. I'll just play how I play and try and keep going with it and I'm enjoying it here so I would have. She now just got a bag so maybe you can buy you some golf clubs to keep you. Yeah I know. You just got a monster deal too so you can just pass me over some. There's golf clubs are more expensive than the co you're just selling me for. So yeah, however you can chat one or two over. What about that San Francisco, Juneau, Quini, who's become a bit of a local celebrity in Australia with all of his reviews of fish and chips and Jalongs, Wynn and Vegey, he's famous. Well, he's been very strategic because he's just come and told us all how wonderful we are and how wonderful everything is. But he has made one cardinal sin. He's gone after Marcus Bontan-Pelley, who plays to the Western Bulldogs. Now, Marcus Bontan-Pelley is one of the all-time champions on and off the field. He is very, almost shy, very, very humble, a superstar and plays for a small team in the Bulldogs. Now, if you did a straw poll of favorite players that play for another team in the AFL, Bontan-Pelley would win. There's no tall Poppy syndrome with him, other fans love him, and he's gone after him

2:00:37and a few people have been like, oh, mate, pick your poison a little bit. If you go over the lack of David Warner, you could see because Bontan puts himself out there, he can be a little polarized and he's a personality. You don't ever hear from Bontan-Pelley. He's never done anything to upset anyone. So I think if he had his time again, although it's been in good jest, he might have chosen a little bit of a different target for who to have a bit of fun with there. But apart from that, he's done well. And San Francisco is done well because they are officially the away team because all these NFL teams have rights to different parts of the world across the globe where they can commercialize themselves. And the LA Rams have Melbourne, have Australia, and they've been out of sight that literally just landed where San Francisco, they've taken over. You see the red jerseys everywhere, they're fans of travelling great numbers, their players have been out and about, they've been doing meet and greets, they've been doing training sessions, they've been at the AFL games. So I think the LA Rams have missed a massive trick here.

2:01:38And I wouldn't be surprised if these San Francisco pick up tens of thousands of fans from this that could potentially be generational supporters and we know this NFL games here to stay. I just wonder if the Rams had their time again, they might have done things differently, but the truth pace might be out of the tube. Yeah, Grant Corn nailed the amount of Vigie might be put on toaster. He may have touched the ball. You can't crushed it. Yeah, because I mean, we all love Nutella, but I think we're all guilty of the first time we had a bit of Nutella, especially if the parents weren't supervising. You'd laver the toast in the Nutella, and it'd be almost a 50-50 combination of how much bread the Nutella you did have. But with Vigie might you just need a little slither, just a little slither, not too much. So we did do that well. Hey, great news this weekend if we look ahead to the racing with Melbourne Cup 1.5, yours resuming on Saturday and the great one, Mikaibi Deva, stakes first time at Flemington, Quenny, since winning that Melbourne Cup last year. And I spoke to Trina Kelvin back in void during the course of the week, and he couldn't be happier with this horse.

2:02:39He said he expects him to run a really cheeky race on Saturday, despite the fact that 1600 players will be well sure to be pet distance now. Half yours had that dream spring carnival winning the Corpio Cup and the Melbourne Cup. The Moint was a little underwhelming in the awesome slash winter. Had four starts, didn't play. Some of those races, the pattern went against him, but all be it. If he was as good as I think we all thought he was going to be, he would have done better than at least get into the placing. So I really want to see this horse step up and run well, because the Melbourne Cup, it's now such a big international race, which is amazing, but the one negative for mine is we don't sort of see these traditional horses year on year. If you have a look at the fact there's only one New Zealand train horse nominated for the Corpio Cup, it sort of reflects that because a lot of them are snapped up and poached earlier or they come across late from international stable. So the fact that we've got almost a throwback traditional stayer, who's had a great Cups campaign, come back 12 months later, and a lot of casual racing fans will watch half yours because they know him

2:03:41because he's won the Melbourne Cup and I think that can only be a good thing. So hopefully, he has a good preparation. Opened at 41's out to 46. This is a beautiful race though. She's alibi is the enormous favourite at $1.75. So deli as is the second favourite and resumes after a five month spell. Money's come for treasure the moment, 14's into 10's. There's group one winners, group one contenders everywhere in the field. Quenny, it seems like we have to go hunting for value, though, given the heavy favourite. Yeah, and favourites have struggled in this race in recent times, especially the favourites that have been made. And Mr Brightside, he's won it last year, the year before that, and the year before that. So he's looking to do something quite incredible and win this race for a fourth straight year. He'll be up on speed, Blake, she's set to steer. So if you want one outside the obvious, then you could certainly make a good case there for Mr Brightside. It's a tricky race though because a lot of these horses are targeting the Cox plate, which is over 2,040 metres. The call-field cup, which is over 2,400 metres,

2:04:42all the Melbourne cup, which is over the 3,200 metres. The one horse that looks more suited by the here and now, is the favourite she's a alibi. The 1,600 metres is absolutely in her sweet spot. So it's why she's favourite. It's why she's the most likely winner, that the race will be watching on replay a few times ago, just to watch the horses strung through the line. So Dalyas, as you mentioned, the top chance is market leader for the Ladbrook's Cox plate and so many other horses going towards those cups. So probably not a great betting race for mine. I think she's an alibi, she's the most likely winner, but a lot of the other runners, this is a stepping stone to the cup. So you've just got to be mindful of that if having a bet. Yeah, lots of other good racing as well though. Two group, two, three group, three is at Flemington. There's also a group racing at Rose Hill. Give us some tips. I think I'll live another day. We'll get the job done once again at Flemington. It's won five in a row. This horse is just racing through the grades so very nicely

2:05:42and I think could be one that could potentially go on and win a group one this preparation. So race seven number five is my best bet for the day. My best each way play, race five number nine, think giant. Now the winner of this gets the gold and ticket into the Melbourne Cup. Now this horse, I think, will be very hard to beat on Saturday. As I alluded to a good each way play. And if you can have something on Saturday, you probably should have a couple of coins on for the Melbourne Cup because they do get into the race and they're always absolutely flashed if they can win their way in. Currently, $200 to win the Melbourne Cup and $51 to run a play. So think giant there. I think we'll go pretty close. Up in Sydney, I've got two plays here. A win bet on race three number three appeared. This horse is racing into a rific order up against similar opposition. Should be too good again. And my best each way up at Rose Hill is race seven number one lady, Shannon Doer, was just out of the price money behind the absolute
