Might have had a cup of coffee in Oxford Mississippi if we want to call that shout out to him for acknowledging it and saying the same name Good job Brendan Sonoma for getting the question and and getting the answer out of them But I know you're really excited to talk to him because you looked at his numbers and then we saw the way he looked in the flesh I mean his neck is large Your thoughts Chris Jones florist eight. Maybe finally has that that thumper but that athletic Also kind of flair to their linebacker play. So what caught your ear. What what do you think was the most surprising or just the most interesting Aspect of his inner we have a no pre-production meeting here folks. I'm legitimately asking to ask on this question What in his 12 minutes that he talked to us? What do you think was the thing that was Maybe not the most interesting to you, but you think I was probably very interested in I would imagine it was just Having a knack for the ball like I want to get to the ball and make plays when I get to the ball. No. Oh, he's not he's 19. Oh, yeah

That to me was Gobsmacking I could not because look man We all know how high school sports works now We all know how college sports works and in freshman or really 19 or 20 years old sometimes All a lot of times their kids that are graduate high school in their 19 certainly most of them in their 18 This kid is still a teenager. It has a 180 career tackles. He was seventh in the country last year In tackles for any level. Well, I shouldn't say any level the FPS level He had 134 tackles as in 19 year old as a teenager and so what I wrote on the on the site was There's no way to look it up. There's no way to prove it one way or the other But he has to be one of the leaders in modern college football history for most tackles and their teens Right 80 career tackles and he said in his teen years in college football and I say that not I mean look I don't know how old Marvin was when he got here, but that was also 35 years ago. Yeah, Lee. Oh god. He am I old

but That to me was like because you look at these guys that produce like that right like a hearing from Memphis had nice numbers They weren't this good, but they had he had nice numbers other guys from other schools and linebackers You look okay. That's 71 tackles is a junior. That's cool. That's production When you're talking about a kid that had 134 tackles as a 19 year old Again, some kids are high school seniors at 19. I would guess most of the freshman class that Florida state has incoming is 19 We'll be 19 when the season starts this kid was already in his second year Anyway You're talking about a kid that might be Incredible like a phenom you know what I'm saying like this is this is like I it's not Cooper flag, but what made Cooper flag above and beyond just the talent level that he had at Duke and I I assume everybody listening this knows who Cooper flag was the number one pick in the NBA draft He was 18 for almost all of his freshman year Like uh, what's his what's his flip at Alabama? The the wide receiver Williams

Yeah, it was the age as much as the production and you start projecting well gosh dog if he's this good at 19 What's he gonna be at 22 now Chris Jones won't be here when he's 22 But Chris Jones might be I just I don't think that's normal man. I don't think a 19-year-old at any level of college football Being that productive having eight or nine games of 10 plus tackles Seventh in the country lead in all in all league member at 17 all first team I that that to me it's different than when a 22-year-old is that does it right like him If he was 22 it's still great. There's production. You like the experience I just think we have no you don't know what the ceiling is when you're 19 you might be dealing I know there's a 1.5% chance of this But you might be dealing with a legitimate first round pick like a super duper star At the very least you're dealing with someone who can play at this level and play well But because we don't know what he's going to be as a 20-year-old

That just really excited me. I just did not know he was that young because that does not mean he is not a finished product When you're 19 there's no chance you're a finished product and when you're already you know, he turns 20 in July like July 23rd so If you're not a finished product and you already have 134 tackles and you're already a dude that's around the ball The time and show is shown a knack for it. He certainly doesn't look 19. He's built like he's 26 That just excites me about what really his potential in his ceiling is that's all Plus he seems like a dude that's no nonsense hard worker. It is going to be a pretty good leader in that room I can't disagree with any of that. Yeah, man I don't only think that I was he's from Mississippi He's very proud to be from Mississippi and then he gets the call up to the show if you will like the SEC Ole Miss And is again, man. I'm I'm I'm I'm in let's do this and then Obviously changes mine to Florida state and we probably know the reasons for it. So I just do Family it was the family atmosphere. Right. Yeah You see Darryl Jackson was asked like why he transferred from Miami to Florida state

And it was just like I always want to play at Florida say it was in my heart like I've always been a summoner Yeah, and I said well, yeah, like he started at Maryland. Yeah, Miami. But all right. Yeah, it's in your art But anyways good answer that good answer Yeah, I just wonder like you know peat-goal thing like you know You would figure he'd be like listen like we cannot lose this kid, but you know just doing a real quick look at the Dept chart for Ole Miss at linebacker and especially I mean they want to pull that kid away from dabbo Right, so maybe that was their their tit for tat. They thought that they could be Okay, we're losing him. But yeah, I mean he obviously to your point just Kids of that age aren't doing the things that he's doing unless in Southern Miss I know it's a group of five school But they care about football down there. That was a good that was a good coach. Yeah Charles Huff that was run the show I know he's more of an offensive minded guy, but Lemon he's done everything you would want at that lower level to make you think that he's gonna be able to to level up He wants to be a it wants to be a first round pick and he verbalized it. He said it. We were asking about Ernie Sims Who's his position coach And he knew about Ernie Sims's career. I'm sure that's kind of normal. You look up the guy that's coaching you

I don't know that he grew up knowing who Ernie Sims was. Did Ernie say Google me? Yeah, probably. I don't know. I don't know if Ernie says it like signety But you know, I don't think he realizes that Ernie Sims was like waves the number one player in the country I think one or number two overall not just number one linebacker He was a huge deal and he was a first round trap pick I'm sure once he was being recruited by Florida State and by Ernie He looked them up and saw oh wow. He was an NFL. He was a NFL all rookie He made the NFL all rookie team had over 100 tackles. He's a first round pick But it's not like Ernie Sims's name rings out with up and coming 19 year old linebackers across this country But I liked the fact that he did his homework about Ernie Sims And it certainly sounds like and he been admitted to it He's a student of the game He talked about Ray Lewis Luke Kekeley like guys that he emulates and that he wants to be a first round pick and maybe he's Over-shooting it me. I don't know what he's projects as. I do know that when you have 135 tackles as a teenager You probably project like you can play in the league and you're built like he is

You probably project like you can play in the league for a while now. We'll see what his athleticism is when he gets on the field with You know, Alabama's and Florida's in Miami's and everything but man I he he is a dude that I just think having that on the team Just biosmosis Not just a guy that believes in himself and wants to be a first round pick. They all want to be first round picks He absolutely believes he's a first round pick. I do think he believes he's one of the best linebackers in the country And I just think having that on that side of the ball will exude some things that will help if if nothing else We'll help other guys in that room to see what that looks like every day Just like we've talked about doose and now he he's gonna help the young receivers And uh, what's our man? Was it what's his name will you who do we talk to Darren Williams? Yeah, Darry on Williams not Williamson. Yeah Williams He he talked about doose like really glowingly about doose I think you could I think you might hear similar things from the the younger linebackers watching a pro

Go to work every day Just what that looks like they have not been around it. There have not been a lot of pros in this linebacking core for a while I think Chris Jones is probably going to be one again. Just protecting my man. It's a teenager One of the leaders tacklers in the country I'm gonna keep him from that point everyone You're gonna sick a it's like Brad Nestler talking about Ryan Williams being 17 His freshman year you're gonna hear a lot of Corey Clark talking about 19 year old Chris Jones But uh, yeah, I I think that that that does nothing but help that side of the ball that guy is a student of the game He's also physical I don't know if we'd call him a physical freak like Ernie was because already ran like a wide receiver And was that big I don't know I've watched his highlights I can't get a grasp of how fast and athletic he is I know you got to be to make up that many tackles But by God just having that dude on that side of the ball I think it's gonna be a really really nice addition production wise and mentality wise Did you have a field core? I mean his ambition right wants to be a first round pick

I mean he is draft eligible this year. He's played two years of college football He said he wants it sounds like he wants to be here a year. Okay. That's what he I don't think he worded it like that But he wants maybe he said something along those lines Like he's a true junior or I think that's what he said a true junior Um, but he he he wants to be in or I think he wants to go early as what he said he believes in himself He wants to improve his stock here. There's a lot of reasons he came here He thinks Ernie can help him do it because again Ernie was a first round pick and he knows what it looks like because he was one This is just fun to say Thousands of rigs nationwide Available right now in your neighborhood.
