Freedom 250 Student Art Contest: Honor Heroes

0:00Students in grades 3 through 12 from all 50 states and the 6 U.S. territories can now enter the Freedom 250 American Heroes student, art contest. Is part of America 250, celebrating the nations of coming birthday, and kids pick a hero from the National Garden of American Heroes folks. From all walks of life who shaped our history over the last 250 years, they create an original handmade two-dimensional artwork plus a 200-word artist statement, split into three categories, upper elementary four, grades 3 to 5, middle school for 6 to 8, and high school for 9 to 12. U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is pushing kids to join in, saying it's a chance to honor real legends through their own creativity. Judges made up of artists and educators will pick 168 first place winners, one per category from each of the 56 places who get travel and lodging to Washington, D.C. for an exhibition in awards at the Great American State Fair.
