The New York Mets are gearing up for their 2026 season with big expectations all around. Star Shortstop Francisco Lindor, their 32-year-old infield standout, is recovering from an injury he picked up before spring training started. Last month, the team hopes he'll be back at full strength when Gaines began in just a few weeks. Lindor recently opened up about how long he sees himself playing and majorly baseball. He's thought about this since signing his first pro contract years ago. He has a goal of logging 22 seasons in total, which would carry him to age 39. Family comes first in that plan though. The call to keep going or step away will be up to him, his wife and his kids when the time comes. He wants that kind of saying the matter. Unlike a lot of aging players who get pushed out unceremoniously, Lindor is focused on retiring on his own terms. His steady excellence with the Mets makes that seem very possible down the road.
