Former MP's Defense in Sexual Assault Trial

0:00On this March 2nd in Adelaide, here's what is making headlines. Former liberal MP Rory Aiman took the stand in his own defense at a sexual assault trial. The 36-year-old faces 10 charges, including indecent assault on a person under 16 and sexual intercourse with a child aged 10 to, 14. He admits to a brief sexual encounter with a teenage boy in 2017, but insists the boy told him on Snapchat that he was 17, not his. Actual age of 13. They first connected on a gay hook-up app when Aiman was 27. After exchanging nude photos on Snapchat, they met once in an underground car park toilet where sexual activity took place. Aiman says it started with casual chat, and the boy led the way downstairs. Prosecutors pointed out the boy's slim, slight build-in photos from the time, and suggested it was obvious he was a child, even under street lights, and in the bathroom. Aiman disagreed, saying Snapchat images showed partial faces that matched his belief in a 17-year-old.

1:02The boy testified he claimed to be 15 to seem believable. Aiman denied tailoring his story for the trial, and said he would have ended contact if he'd known the real age. He couldn't recall exact acts from 8 or 9 years ago, but clearly remembers the age claim. Meanwhile, they had more online chats in 2019 and 2022 on Grindr. The trial is ongoing with more testimony set for tomorrow.
