This is Sydney News today, every story, every city, every day. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a serious flood warning for the Catherine River and Australia's Northern Territory. Right now, the river sits at 13 meters and is climbing fast, with major flood levels possibly hitting by this afternoon. Heavy rain has hammered the area south of Darwin, dumping nearly 100 millimeters since 9 a.m. yesterday. This is sparked rapid rises along 17 mile creek, birdie creek, and the Catherine River itself. Officials have declared a flood emergency for the nearby Bestwick community. Residents there are told to head to high ground right away and stay indoors until it's safe. Forecasters predict the river will top moderate flood levels at Catherine Bridge soon, then push toward the major threshold of 17.5. Metters. Over at Bestwick Bridge, it could peak at 9.5 meters above major flood stage starting this afternoon. Our rain is on the way through Friday, which might drive levels even higher, so everyone
in the area needs to keep monitoring updates from authorities. This episode is supported by our sponsor. To not just fall asleep, drift into what you are listening to.
