Flames Falter in Detroit, Lose 5-2

The Calgary Flames ended their 5-game Eastern Road Trip on a sour note, dropping a 5-to-2 decision to the Detroit Redwings. They jumped out to an early lead in the first period, but faltered with defensive lapses later on. Morgan Frost scored first for Calgary on a nice setup from Motveg-Gridden, putting the Flames up one nothing. Shots were tight at that point. Even for Detroit and 8 for the Flames. Things unraveled in the second period as the Redwings pounced. Patrick Cain tied it on a breakaway, then Detroit added three more quick goals from Emmett Finney, Cain again, and Mord Cider on the power play. Matt Cornado clawed one back off a rush to make it 4-2. The third period saw Calgary push hard, but Detroit managed the game well and sealed it with an inti-net goal from Dominic Shine. Final shots favored the Wings, 12-10 in the middle frame, and 7-5 late.
